Ya'll I am blown away by how excited the boys get when it;s time to clean. I started with the older one "helping" me make the bed and it is a ritual. Now the little guy insists on "helping" too.
I got a little chatty today, but I am opening up on my own crazy control issues. I honestly did not realize how much of a control freak I had become but I think it is because with ADHD I always FEEL out of control. As a result, I spiral way too easily. Praise God, I am seeing things more clearly and working to relax and focus on the joy more than the stress of imperfection. How are you when it comes to letting people do things?
Yes, the older kids are helping but they work and go to school so it is difficult to get everyone together to film. Thank you to my son for pulling down the bins, putting up the tree, doing all of the lights, and always being happy to help! My daughter is helping me with craft projects and my hubby is cooking every night which is such a blessing. The older two have their own homes and I cannot wait to have some time with them next week! I am accepting all the help, hugs, and meals these days from my family and as a result, I am able to relax and enjoy the time spent with them so much more.
As a last minute surprise, I will be going live tonight 11-21 to talk guy gifts and tomorrow 11-22 to dive into gifts for women. PLEASE join me and let's get some shopping done together!

Hi Terri. Your grandchildren are adorable! Such blessings. My girls loved to help with they were little too! They still help, but they are grown and both work. I am the same way with my ADHD too, always feel like I am out of control. I remember those days of staying up and "fixing" the tree!! Ugh. I am so thankful for the wisdom and the growth through our life. I am learning to just relax a bit. I can't control everything. When I get in those moods I just stop and talk to God about He is in control not me and I have to lay it at his feet. I am not always good at it, but I am working at it. I have simplified and slowed down so much. It is freeing! Great video Terri! Thank you for sharing your wisdom ❤ I have been praying for you and your family!

@TodaywithTerriK I missed this post. I hear you about always feeling out of control. My days and routines never just go easily for me. And timers? Almost very time I try to set a timer for a task or cleaning session, it gets interrupted. But I am determined, staring today, to set my timer every time I pre-rinse or wash a sink full of dishes, and let go of the perfectionism of getting them all done. Even though I like hand washing them for the benefit of not having to wait for the dishwasher to be done to grab what I need when I need it, making sure I get every last dish washed before moving on to sonething else, takes so much out of my time for other things I want and need to do. So, 15 minutes TOPs, each time; is the goal now...NOT do them until they're all done. I rarely have an empty sink by the time I go to bed anyway; so I may as well get the ladt 15 minutes done after dinner, tolighten the load in the morning without burning myself out over the dishes vedore bed. I'll let you know in about a week how it's going

@@TodaywithTerriK The little ones are adorable. Isn't it great when we get a chance to "do better" and make good memories. Thanks for all your insights.

Oh Terri, this is so helpful. I had a come to Jesus moment one year when one of my kids said, “Mom it seems like you actually enjoyed yourself today., normally you seem like you don’t have any fun.”.
That was hard to hear but he was right. After that I took a hard look at my perfectionism and have made changes.

It's crazy how we think we are upbeat and easy going but underneath it all we have some control issues--likely because we had to do it all when they were younger. I am happy you found a way to enjoy things more.

I've definitely started to make the shift to getting my kids (5yo, 3yo, 1yo) more involved in doing household chores. The thing that really made me consider it was reading the 'Little House on the Prairie' books with my kids - if little Laura and Mary can help with all those farm chores, my kids can help me too! And if we all pitch in it's a lot more rewarding when we get it done!
We have the same little people nativity playset, and it's a real hit with the kids! We also bring out a stack of Christmas books for the kids to read (or to be read to) over the season.

It truly amazed me that the 1 yo did so much helping. He loved it! We underestimate kids and I am afraid we are teaching them NOT to help. I got the nativity last year and it is so worth the $. When my kids were small I got a wooden block set that they loved playing with. I wish I still had them but they got lost in the divorce. I am stocking up on books now, great idea!

Thank you for this video. I really needed to hear these reminders. I have so much going on right now that isn't even related to everything I have to do for the Holidays. I haven't even bought the Thanksgiving Turkey yet! Lol.

It is crazy that the holidays that are supposed to bring peace, joy, and thanksgiving tend to leave us stressed, frustrated, and overwhelmed. To be fair, I think social media has add a lot of expectations onto the how to do it all that are not very realistic. I hope we can break free from those ideas and reclaim our holidays! (BTW, I don't have a turkey yet either-going tomorrow)

Yeah, it is a shining example of how I will never be one of "those" influencers with the perfect house. I pick a few things that the kids enjoy in spite of the how silly they are! Do you remember Billy Bass-the fish that would sing Christmas carols? When my kids were little I hung it on the wall just for them...it was 1000% hideous!

@TodaywithTerriK lol I'd forgotten all about that fish until I saw your reply! The reindeer is hideously adorable, but the fish? It's jus5 hideous! But you know what? A little bit of kid-inspired silliness adds humor, which elevates our joy! And to be fair, I got such a giggle out of watching the reindeer knock itself off the table lol

@TodaywithTerriK lol I'm glad! See? If we let children be children, they have a way of bringing out the childlike heart in us. I don't mean childish , but childlike, taking in, absorbing and appreciating the little things that make us smile inside. Speaking of which, my hubby took out one of hid guitars the other day and started playing around on it, and it reminded me of the time waaaaaaaayyyyy back in hughscholl (we were next door neighbors then), when he taught me the chords to Deep Purple Smoke on the water".. I never picked up a guitar since then, but the other day he I spired me to want to actually learn a little but...now I pick it up a few minutes each day to learn the first few baby steps he showed me the other day. My hands are really small so it's a little awkward, but ok for picking rather than strumming. I don't care if I never master it. It just want to be able to play around on it, like I did on my grand mother's piano lol.

To be honest, I hate the holidays. My husband is on his butt and thinks that Courier and Ives is going to just show up and make it all happen. I’m just happy when it’s all put away and it’s just over.
I love Jesus that’s not the problem. There’s just no more of me to go around and I’ve tried to talk to him and he isn’t interested in helping.

I 100% understand. Last year I think I had a burn out. I was trying to do it all by myself, attemptig to film it all for vlogmas, and stressed about it all! This year I broke my own rule-no Christmas until after Thanksgiving. For whatever reason, it is working. I think having the extra few weeks to go slow and also I am not putting EVERYTHING out. If I don't love it or don't want to do it, I am not fighting it. Maybe you need to focus on doing less if possible and enjoying more quiet? I know that sounds simple and I truly know that sometimes it just isn't that easy. Praying for you and a speedy holiday?

@TodaywithTerriK that's how e%always did it...we didn't do any super holiday ckeankbg, re-arreanfibg, decorating or cooking until after Thanksgiving. And we rokk down the decorations after the new year. And I seem to remember my parents "trying" to do as much gift shopping as possible BEFORE Thanksgiving...and keep it all hidden lol. It was just easier to do the giftcshopoing before all the other preparation stuff and all the fin activities.

@@TodaywithTerriK thank you so much! I don’t mind Thanksgiving so much because it’s pretty much about family and food but Christmas is a totally different thing. I guess the one positive thing is today I’m taking a load in the back of my jeep to donate so every little bit of cleared off space I make does help reduce my stress level. It won’t be perfect by Thanksgiving, but at least it’s a little better today!

@@farmgirl8629 i get it. my hubby and I just don't do it anymore. It's enough just trying to get the house back in order and maintain the areas that are now 8n order. If someone wants to invite us over for a meal, holiday or not, we welc9me it and enjoy tge company. If a friend or relative wants to stop by for a visit, they are welcome any time, as long as we're home, and I always offer to make a meal, even if it's a last-minute simple thing. I am adding a tiny touch of decor to the clean areas, and it's not season-repated right now,. It's just things that add jus5 a touch of cute and pretty, to keep me inspired to keep up with the progress I'm making in my home and in my life. The decore does a really look more springy than anything else, and that's fine with me! I like it. i'm beyond the point of feeling embarrassed or ashamed because much of my home is still a mess. The people who really want to see us won't care, and the ones who just care about our home or about being entertained will care. The second type of people don't need to visit us anyway.
