I relocate the expansion tank (3 screws) and fan shroud (2 screws and 1 plug) to get better access to the filter. Gives me a chance to check the belts at the same time. Chrysler Fiat engineering at it's finest.

I have found that removing the driver’s side headlight lets you reach right in and grab it.

I added gas struts to hold the hood up, makes servicing the engine bay more pleasant

Worst position for an oil filter ever. Toyotas are great, but try Subaru! Super easy. Oil filter right beside the oil filler tube. Not sure what the hate about Fram is either, but hearing it has kept me from buying Fram. I use Wix or Mopar. That plastic oil drip diverter under the filter is cool! Will have to see if I can add one to mine! Not installed on the 2008. Just changed the oil yesterday.

I’ve never worked on a Subaru but I’ve heard good things about working on them. 👍🏼 I just changed all the brakes on this car too and will be uploading a video of that soon. There was some other poor designs when it comes to the brakes.

@@metalhead719 I’ve done the rear calipers, rotors, and pads on the KK. Had a lug nut frozen to the stud and had to take it to the shop to have it cut off before I could finish the job! Had to buy a new wheel too

@@metalhead719 Subaru is OK until you need to change spark plugs, that's where the fun begins. However, newer models are a bit better than old ones because you don't need to hang engine to get to spark plugs😃

On older Subarus you have to hang the engine to get to the spark plugs???

It's not that bad of a location - it's more about where they moved the coolant/washer reservoirs, to the front from where it was on the old Liberty, along the left side. If the bulky plastic reservoir wasn't there, the oil filter would be easily accessible. That said, it's not that bad to get it from underneath - no jacks required

Don’t use a torque wrench to bust a nut I think

That’s probably officially correct, but hey it worked. A breaker bar is probably a better idea.
