Man. I appreciate SO MUCH that you kept your word about giving a melee barb build even with this insane loot. Melee tanky characters are always the gameplay that I choose to apprehend a new ARPG and I would have felt so lost in Diablo 2 if this guide didn't exist. So, once again, thanks for that.
Watching you have to explain why NOT obliterating everything onscreen (and, lets be honest, beyond the screen) can be fun was painful. This is exactly why I can't enjoy most newer ARPGs for extended periods. Taking a Barbarian through D2, self-found, is so much fun because you're accomplishing your victory. Can't hit? Get more AR. Dying? Get more Defense/Resists. The fact that gear matters so much more makes for a more enjoyable loot experience. In something like PoE or worse, Diablo 3, you never really have to give any thought to solving these problems. Especially in D3, you're more or less just building up arbitrary "POWER" numbers, not TOO unlike a game like Destiny. You succeed because you have items, not because you have the right items. Additionally, playing a Barb or something and actually finding a really strong item is exciting. When you jump from an Honor Zweihander to an Oath Balrog Blade it's a big moment.
This is kinda the same reason I like to make builds in Torchlight II that don't use the super OP skills like Flame Hammer or Wolf Pack (along with mixing in regular attacks with skills so stuff doesn't wind up feeling like a Stat Stick).

Barbarians were always my favorite so I'm playing a Frenzy Barb now. You mentioned when using frenzy it's important to always use the fast weapon as your primary. After reading up on it there appears to also be a benefit the slower the weapon is in your offhand. I was shocked to see that your attack rate can actually IMPROVE with a slow weapon. All the online IAS calculators seem to confirm this. Frenzy and 2 War Axes (Fast Speed Weapons) is actually slower than 1 War Axe and 1 Double Axe (Normal Speed Weapon). So many weird mechanics like this that I had no clue about 10 years ago. Thanks again, you're awesome man!
i was wondering how you walked so fast with the 10 frw cold res boots. then i realized i set youtube to 2x speed when you fought duriel and forgot to switch back to 1x
...mostly untouched? For the people who play SP ( not Plugy ) we cant progress sorc very easily in Hell. Its doable as a lightning sorc, but as any other it's pretty rough. In general, Hell is rough. But with the elemental immunities, it's almost impossible.

On my opinion, when a Melee barb reaches Nightmare it's best to howl away the ads and focus on champs and boss packs because it is faster leveling. I got to NM in 34 and got to 57 in like a few hrs just rushing over and over the maps and camping on boss packs. Also, howling the mobs, especially the resurrecting ones is very helpful so your CB doesn't proc on ads and both swings are focused on main target
Watching this guided playthrough and knowing that I beat Hell with a Barb is a good feeling. More importantly the stupid choices I made when I first started playing years ago. "Let's use a single 2-hander and a shield with Bash!" says 12-year old me. I think that made it to Act 3 before I called it. Using two weapons with Double Swing finally got me to Nightmare, I think. But I still wasn't prioritizing life and res. Even on the Hell run I think I was still in the mind set of higher defense/damage means it must be better.
I relate to 4:31:20 SO FREAKING HARD. I spent about 4 hours farming Mephisto Normal with 1:144 odds of a Hawkmail. With Crushflange (from about 50 Quest Andy runs xD) and Malice it took about 2-3 mins per run, so about 100 runs total. I got: 1x Rixot's Keen, 1x Nagelring, 1x Darkglow, 1x Bverrit Keep, 1xBloodfist, 2x Skewers of Krintiz, 3x(!) The Diggler, 3x Deathspades, 1x Gleamscythe, 1x Shadowfang, 1x The Chieftain, 2x Duskdeeps, 1x Griswold's Edge, 1x Ichorsting, 1x Sparking Mail, 1x Bloodrise, 2x Bladebone AND NO HAWKMAIL. This was JUST the uniques. For set items: 1x Civerb's Icon (1:1172 btw), 1x Angelic Halo, 1x Hsarus' Iron Fist, 5(!)x Cleglaw's Claw, 2x Iratha's Cord, 3x Milabrega's Rod, 1x Full Cathan's set, 1x Berserker's Headgear, et cetera, et cetera, I just listed the rarest, I'm SURE I missed a lot. I disagree, whirlwind is still a viable skill in its own right, as long as you have enough life/mana leech and Resistances... and having the right gear also helps.
My first ever d2 char was a barb. I struggled. There was no skill reset. I managed to reached act4 hell with a sword and a shield, but could never reach river of flame. I put like 8 points in stone skin and 5 in totem...
Melee frenzy barb was one of my first characters. I think I scrapped the actual first one and recreated it with a build in mind. It took me a long time to finish hell, and I didn't know sorc is many times easier to run. This was all back on patch 1.09, so Sanctuary was just crazy with Iron Maiden cast every 10 seconds. And then I made Paladin, finished the game with struggle too. And then I made Sorceress and found that she is crazy powerful and that I should have started with her in the first place 🤣
My characters growing up were pretty much broken. Ignored war cries on my barbs, etc. I have a few of those save files backed up on a CD and it's funny to look at how bad I was at the game. I got to act 4 or 5 hell, but I'm sure I poured tons of hours into doing so. I remember I was trying to get immortal king's soul cage, but never could find it, had the rest of the set but no luck on that armor drop. Always liked to farm normal Meph for sigons boots, belt, and gloves too. Great stats for a melee character.
Could you explain what does it word means? I read un UB it means "make someone feel awkward", but it doesn't make sense why llama was laughing so hard...
1:22:50 to be honest, bar has always been my favourite character to play in D2 even D3. It’s so engaging and so different. I don’t like spell casters because they are stay away and watching, but playing bar feels like you are really fight the monsters
I've always found the barb to be my favorite class. A bit ironic, since I've made it the farthest with a hammerdin ( hell act 3 ) but barb has always been my favorite. It's probably the ability to tank almost anything, when you have some damage reduction, or just enough damage to put things into hit recovery.
I hope so as well. I probably eont be playing Resurrected when it f first comes out, unfortunately. I would like to see the remake when it does, but that probably wont be the case. Another thing that is ironic, though, is that I havent really progressed as a barbarian. I've only made it to normal act 3. How far have you gotten with the barbarian class? Is "thrower" viable for nightmare and hell?
I love the idea of the barb, like potion heals a lot, you get resist through skills, you get better with weapons through skills etc a lot of cool passives... But the skills plain sucks and it is a game of skills. The only way to get any kind of AOE is whirldwind. I wish throw barb could shoot up the entire screen or something like give the barb better AOE. The amazon did it best, cool passives but with the cool skills too!@@andrewgordon3589

@MrLlamaSC. I'm doing this playthrough, and running a Malice and a Steel Flail, and killing everything in my path. You should've done a Steel and Malice. Also blessed aura act 2 merc really boosts the AR. With Frency my AR is 4500.
I love a good melee class and it does feel like that the Barbarian is the only pure melee character (the Berserker seems like some fun). Playing a Martial Arts assassin right now and she is more a melee-range caster (tried Dragon Claws + Venom, which was definitely not hell viable).
The thing that makes a barb powerful is strength and dexterity, you seen lama cranking all kind of points into vitality,not entirely bad, allot of people do, but that’s a fail safe route, that’s also why allot of people have issues with the melee experience with barbs, they’re physical bassed and that’s another draw back since there phys imunes that’s why chance to bleed and crushing blow help with the immunity, one you cause them to bleed just run back and mob till bleed goes away cause bleed again
Meley barb suffers in nightmare ... until he gets crushing blow and a wand with lifetap cost of repair for lifetap is like 1200 on a basic wand and thats 4 health pots so you can basically spam it on bosses or champion groups your a wizzard harry.
Do Blood Raven drop good in Nightmare or Hell? I wish she had some credits to being awesome. Have the badass female voice and badass design. Way more hotter than Andariel. And were once a hero.
Until I learned about txt files and how item drop actually works, I was convinced that there was an algorithm which deliberately dropped gear for classes that you weren't playing. Looks like the same theory applies to GG speed run gear on a slower play through.
I made 2 strength in 2 hammers for my frenzy barb and it was insane. 40 extra strength and 20 vita cannot be ignored, plus 50 crushing blow. The damage from hammers was also nice. I implore you to try this sometime in the future. A lvl 25 barb dominates with 2 strength.
@@JLin576 i think stats on one weapon don't apply to the other weapon when dual wielding in general. Ex: 10% life leach on each doesn't mean you get %20 per hit. The only one I'm unsure about is ias and how it works with frenzy

Yes a lot of people would think it would stack from the same weapon. You don't have to be snarky about it. He never reccomends to run the runewords you chose so ultimately its on you, and you learned that it doesn't work with duplicate weapons. Instead of giving thanks or appreciation, you were snarky. Well, here it comes MrCamel: When i first commented on this video i watched it about halfways then i went to sleep, then i continued it today. So about the time you started the sarch meme i felt an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach because i ate something in the afternoon which i promised myself not to eat several times but ate it anyways (because im stupid), this feeling started to grow in intensity while i was figuring out what exactly is "sarch" (besides sub only March), i am not native english and maybe a little slow too. Then suddenly i had to pause the video because i had to go to a certain place very quickly. Ok, so i came back and continued watching, and after numerous cheers and jokes my doubts about the nature of "sarch" started to disappear then all of a sudden i had to go for another round to said place even faster to avoid certain consequences in the pants department. you need to use a rogue mercenary from act 1. she uses that spell that reduces armor, I cant remember the name, it greatly helps with the low attack rating, I always pick that a cold arrow one for dealing with the creatures that can be razed. Frenzy barb is pain in the but as you have to stand still and that makes it easier to get hit, also you have to chase the creatures around, I always end up using TAUNT as I get tired to run back and forth to each one of them, that is especially painful in the flyer jungle with the darts blowers who on top of that run away from you as you approach them, and it is always good for forcing the range and caster mobs to walk up to you.
i made concentrate berserk build, with swords like a year ago, i didnt make it past act 4 but i didnt know about runewords or running defense reductions
That's what's wrong with the Internet. Any community consists of so many people who repeatedly stumble across a joke that it becomes an overused running joke. I can get behind pounding dudes, at least innuendos are funny if the timing is good. The sarch gag was funny for like the first five minutes, and then chat kept repeating the word until it kinda lost the initial charm. And then they continued to do it for another couple of hours in a row. Jeez, and here I was thinking teenagers in school were obnoxious when they didn't know when to stop and went with the same joke for eternity... apparently, a lot of adults do the same shit. I'm not particularly proud of my sense of humour, but at least I can stop.
last night I was planning to play along this frenzy barb NM guide, then I wanted to "do a quick countess run" with my bowazon and played though Act 2 Hell with her instead... XD (next try is tonight :D)
Barbs use to be near impossible to run thru the Chaos Sanctuary. Oblivion knights would just cast iron maiden on you and nothing else. Instant death for a ww barb.
I’m currently doing this same thing (except I decided to farm more Baal runs and cows and whatnot and got some good loot that I hadn’t gotten while running normal) but something I found hugely helpful both leveling melee barb and zealot was to have at least one skull if not two in my weapons. It allows me to run 3 health and only one mana slot and never have any issues. On the barb especially the lifesteal is more noticeable, Paladin not so much
@@alecluna4921 can be, yup. Keep in mind this is for solo play throughs. If you’re getting boosted and whatnot there’s better things to use your socket quest on
I am a newbie. My Frenzy Bar is at lvl 43 in Nightmare. He's at that level because I had been playing /players8 all the time in Normal. I have too many low level jewels those are taking most slots of my inventory and I don't know what to do with them... What should I do? Should I sell them? @@
you know when D1 comes to mention in comparison with D2 i always think of those bright yellow zombies (i think that zombie subtype was called Black Death) which reduced your hit points by one *permanently* if it succesfully scored a hit on you and all those shrines and cauldrons with random effects or those horned monsters with the charge up attack which could really screw you over if you were a beginner/careless and i realize that how much the developers gave up on these harsh elements to make D2 a bit more forgiving overall not even talking about the negative effects on items which are present in D2 but not nearly as often as in D1 what encouraged the player to make even more maningful choices when it came to gear selection
I’m probably the only one but I have to say it. The sarch joke segment really took away from this video. People just running jokes into the ground is a bad vibe on a tutorial type video. The fact that he got paid more for this is not lost on me but I just wanna listen to his insight and thought process in the video.
Oh! Ribcracker staff counts as mace class in the barbarian skills, eh, which I found at normal Andy when I farmed there... maybe with my mf sorc... perhaps not in normal... or at Andy... Details, schmetails :p If you wanna know and are too lazy to look it up in a calculator, bugged Andy in nightmare has the highest chance of dropping Ribracker, so I probably found it there. In normal, Baal can drop it as a quest drop and after that, normal Baal has about the same chance to drop a Ribcracker as Andy has for dropping a SoJ, so I know where I'd farm ;)
You should do a full clear on all the zones including all the quests, and not ignore the Blood raven's calls because you DID HER in ACT 1! I have noticed that the games tries to counter the play style and generates uniques that can do that, in the case of a frenzy barb you are probobly going to get a lot of ColdEnchanted/Spectral hit/Frost aura + mana burn
one last one sarch 1. any act or outburst that results in making someone feel awkward, uncomfortable, or confused, and sometimes to purposely really piss someone off. 2. to "mess" with someone, to pull pranks on them.

I disagree, whirlwind is still a viable skill in its own right, as long as you have enough life/mana leech and Resistances... and having the right gear also helps.

My first ever d2 char was a barb. I struggled. There was no skill reset. I managed to reached act4 hell with a sword and a shield, but could never reach river of flame. I put like 8 points in stone skin and 5 in totem...
Melee frenzy barb was one of my first characters. I think I scrapped the actual first one and recreated it with a build in mind. It took me a long time to finish hell, and I didn't know sorc is many times easier to run. This was all back on patch 1.09, so Sanctuary was just crazy with Iron Maiden cast every 10 seconds. And then I made Paladin, finished the game with struggle too. And then I made Sorceress and found that she is crazy powerful and that I should have started with her in the first place 🤣
My characters growing up were pretty much broken. Ignored war cries on my barbs, etc. I have a few of those save files backed up on a CD and it's funny to look at how bad I was at the game. I got to act 4 or 5 hell, but I'm sure I poured tons of hours into doing so. I remember I was trying to get immortal king's soul cage, but never could find it, had the rest of the set but no luck on that armor drop. Always liked to farm normal Meph for sigons boots, belt, and gloves too. Great stats for a melee character.

1:22:50 to be honest, bar has always been my favourite character to play in D2 even D3. It’s so engaging and so different. I don’t like spell casters because they are stay away and watching, but playing bar feels like you are really fight the monsters
I've always found the barb to be my favorite class. A bit ironic, since I've made it the farthest with a hammerdin ( hell act 3 ) but barb has always been my favorite. It's probably the ability to tank almost anything, when you have some damage reduction, or just enough damage to put things into hit recovery.

Another thing that is ironic, though, is that I havent really progressed as a barbarian. I've only made it to normal act 3. How far have you gotten with the barbarian class? Is "thrower" viable for nightmare and hell?
I love the idea of the barb, like potion heals a lot, you get resist through skills, you get better with weapons through skills etc a lot of cool passives... But the skills plain sucks and it is a game of skills. The only way to get any kind of AOE is whirldwind. I wish throw barb could shoot up the entire screen or something like give the barb better AOE.

@MrLlamaSC. I'm doing this playthrough, and running a Malice and a Steel Flail, and killing everything in my path. You should've done a Steel and Malice. Also blessed aura act 2 merc really boosts the AR. With Frency my AR is 4500.

When properly geared and stated barbs are the strongest of melee classes, I actually prefer the barbs over all other classes
I love a good melee class and it does feel like that the Barbarian is the only pure melee character (the Berserker seems like some fun). Playing a Martial Arts assassin right now and she is more a melee-range caster (tried Dragon Claws + Venom, which was definitely not hell viable).
The thing that makes a barb powerful is strength and dexterity, you seen lama cranking all kind of points into vitality,not entirely bad, allot of people do, but that’s a fail safe route, that’s also why allot of people have issues with the melee experience with barbs, they’re physical bassed and that’s another draw back since there phys imunes that’s why chance to bleed and crushing blow help with the immunity, one you cause them to bleed just run back and mob till bleed goes away cause bleed again

Do Blood Raven drop good in Nightmare or Hell? I wish she had some credits to being awesome. Have the badass female voice and badass design. Way more hotter than Andariel. And were once a hero.
Until I learned about txt files and how item drop actually works, I was convinced that there was an algorithm which deliberately dropped gear for classes that you weren't playing. Looks like the same theory applies to GG speed run gear on a slower play through.

That bloodletter was pretty darn rare ... 0 MF it's worse than 1-in-6000 drop
I made 2 strength in 2 hammers for my frenzy barb and it was insane. 40 extra strength and 20 vita cannot be ignored, plus 50 crushing blow. The damage from hammers was also nice. I implore you to try this sometime in the future. A lvl 25 barb dominates with 2 strength.
Just a heads up the CB doesn't stack. It's 25% each locally since it's on each weapon. But still sounds pretty solid!

Ex: 10% life leach on each doesn't mean you get %20 per hit.

So about the time you started the sarch meme i felt an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach because i ate something in the afternoon which i promised myself not to eat several times but ate it anyways (because im stupid), this feeling started to grow in intensity while i was figuring out what exactly is "sarch" (besides sub only March), i am not native english and maybe a little slow too. Then suddenly i had to pause the video because i had to go to a certain place very quickly. Ok, so i came back and continued watching, and after numerous cheers and jokes my doubts about the nature of "sarch" started to disappear then all of a sudden i had to go for another round to said place even faster to avoid certain consequences in the pants department. Well yeah, you did a Javazon run, but that still leaves physical bowazon to do.
you need to use a rogue mercenary from act 1. she uses that spell that reduces armor, I cant remember the name, it greatly helps with the low attack rating, I always pick that a cold arrow one for dealing with the creatures that can be razed. Frenzy barb is pain in the but as you have to stand still and that makes it easier to get hit, also you have to chase the creatures around, I always end up using TAUNT as I get tired to run back and forth to each one of them, that is especially painful in the flyer jungle with the darts blowers who on top of that run away from you as you approach them, and it is always good for forcing the range and caster mobs to walk up to you.
Waypoints don't get bugged for me, instead doors get bugged lol.
Never fight lightning or fire or cold enchant. wow what a game.
i made concentrate berserk build, with swords like a year ago, i didnt make it past act 4 but i didnt know about runewords or running defense reductions

That's what's wrong with the Internet. Any community consists of so many people who repeatedly stumble across a joke that it becomes an overused running joke. I can get behind pounding dudes, at least innuendos are funny if the timing is good. The sarch gag was funny for like the first five minutes, and then chat kept repeating the word until it kinda lost the initial charm. And then they continued to do it for another couple of hours in a row. Jeez, and here I was thinking teenagers in school were obnoxious when they didn't know when to stop and went with the same joke for eternity... apparently, a lot of adults do the same shit. I'm not particularly proud of my sense of humour, but at least I can stop.
last night I was planning to play along this frenzy barb NM guide, then I wanted to "do a quick countess run" with my bowazon and played though Act 2 Hell with her instead... XD (next try is tonight :D)
Barbs use to be near impossible to run thru the Chaos Sanctuary. Oblivion knights would just cast iron maiden on you and nothing else. Instant death for a ww barb.

I’m currently doing this same thing (except I decided to farm more Baal runs and cows and whatnot and got some good loot that I hadn’t gotten while running normal) but something I found hugely helpful both leveling melee barb and zealot was to have at least one skull if not two in my weapons. It allows me to run 3 health and only one mana slot and never have any issues. On the barb especially the lifesteal is more noticeable, Paladin not so much

Probably should bout them in the stash. Put up to 10 in the stash, and sell the rest. The jewels can be useful for crafting blood items.

you know when D1 comes to mention in comparison with D2 i always think of those bright yellow zombies (i think that zombie subtype was called Black Death) which reduced your hit points by one *permanently* if it succesfully scored a hit on you and all those shrines and cauldrons with random effects or those horned monsters with the charge up attack which could really screw you over if you were a beginner/careless and i realize that how much the developers gave up on these harsh elements to make D2 a bit more forgiving overall
not even talking about the negative effects on items which are present in D2 but not nearly as often as in D1 what encouraged the player to make even more maningful choices when it came to gear selection
I’m probably the only one but I have to say it. The sarch joke segment really took away from this video. People just running jokes into the ground is a bad vibe on a tutorial type video. The fact that he got paid more for this is not lost on me but I just wanna listen to his insight and thought process in the video.

If you wanna know and are too lazy to look it up in a calculator, bugged Andy in nightmare has the highest chance of dropping Ribracker, so I probably found it there. In normal, Baal can drop it as a quest drop and after that, normal Baal has about the same chance to drop a Ribcracker as Andy has for dropping a SoJ, so I know where I'd farm ;)

You should do a full clear on all the zones including all the quests, and not ignore the Blood raven's calls because you DID HER in ACT 1! I have noticed that the games tries to counter the play style and generates uniques that can do that, in the case of a frenzy barb you are probobly going to get a lot of ColdEnchanted/Spectral hit/Frost aura + mana burn
