That fertiliser is very concentrated, the idea is that instead of buying a pool of fertiliser you buy that small bottle and mix a spoon of it with a bunch of water, then water the plants. I think that the smell is not even a smell, maybe several components are slightly acid when disolved in water. Mucus is water-based so in this case it is not a smell but a pain reaction to the pH change. I learned this in a university lab, I did not remember if the CO2 canister was opened or not so I tried to smell the gas. ouch.
That would make sense, regardless it seems to be a very good thing to test mask seals with, I've got some Isoamyl Acetate now but I think a pleasant smell is harder to notice than one that causes a strong reaction.
With enough filters on a filter you would then need to make it pressurized to overcome the insane resistance. It would be like taping plywood over you mouth if you get enough of them together.
