I'm just dabbling a bit to see what's available as resources. I tend to be attracted to vintage printings too. And you're right, ideas will pop into your head scrolling through all that sort of stuff! thanks!
Awesome resource. Thanks for sharing. But. Just a quick note. The dingo poster is not in good taste. The lady who said that a dingo took her baby was not lying. They found the babies remains a couple of years ago and it was dingoes.
This was an amazing video, thank you for sharing. The way you explain things is really great as well. Very helpful. Please keep making more Public Domain videos.
This is wonderful information that came in just as I was thinking of creating t-shirt designs to start a small business. Thank you very much for sharing. Much appreciated 😊
Thanks for the info again. At 5:48 you said you removed the background and stuck an old vintage peice of paper behind it to make it uniform and then added wording to it. How did you remove the background and keep just the image of the Dingo? What photoshop do you use and do you have a video how to do this? I have PhotoscapeX Pro but don't know how to do that particular task, separating an image just itself from it's background. I can crop an image like square or circular and paste it onto a new background , but it still retains some of the original background if you know what I mean. But how do you remove the background and keep the exact, defined image? Can you provide info on this? How to remove the background but just keep the precise image? Thank you so much!
Great information. You mentioned that you use photoshopped to remove backgrounds. Do I necessarily have to now acquire photoshop to use in conjunction with this platform. Please explain asap. Thanks.
You don't have to use Photoshop (although it is a premium software solution) - there are free online tools here - I have another channel with deep-dive artistic resources - here is the background remover: th-cam.com/video/CFnbBWMP_4I/w-d-xo.html
I went over to BHL and I ended up getting into the birds and butterflies, great stuff, when I downloaded one of the birds to Gimp , when I was making the picture transparent I could not erase the top and bottom of the picture has words written across the picture, I went to Lunapic and no matter what the words keep reappearing after I saved it, so I just cropped it in Lunapic cutting off the top and bottom where the words are, I double-checked and I'm allowed to use it, strange indeed
In Inkscape, that would be pretty difficult. Inkscape is a vector software tool (not a graphics design tool). If you don't have Photoshop, you could try Photopea (it's free)?
Thank you🎇! I've liked and subscribed☄! Honestly, at first I thought this is one of those robot channels because of the repeated phrases in the intro... But then I reconsidered just because I love vintage illustrations myself🌿 - and w❤w, a gem of a website! Thank you for sharing! Thinking of clicking on the notif bell🔔!
Thanks for this important info. You mentioned that you use photoshop in conjunction with the picture you found. Is photoshop a necessity? Please advise. Thanks again.
Thanks! Do you have to alter these photo's? Say I wanted to sell flashcards, and needed the individual butterfly. I'll be adding text but do I need to edit the photo?
Great question - the answer is no you do not have to edit the photo. You can do whatever you want with the picture (including nothing). If you are adding text, you are creating an original design - sounds like a great idea for flashcards!
Hey there - These images are in the public domain (meaning no one person owns them). I would recommend changing or modifying any design in general to make it your own (like create artwork from the existing public domain images).
Nice! This print on demand business am I right by saying you don't need a heat press or buy the actual garments, all you have to do is send in your designs wherever you get them from. So it's a big money saving operation.
Yes exactly - you can sign up to Redbubble, upload a picture that you design, and then set the design on 70+ products (clothing, coffee mugs) and then if you sell a product, you get a commission. That’s it - you don’t actually do anything inventory-wise.
Hey there - no everything is public domain on this site (so it's already free). Some museums offer a paid option for a super high-resolution scan - another option is to just upscale the image in Photoshop, Inkscape or free option: th-cam.com/video/3b_r04ODafM/w-d-xo.html
I discovered your channel just a few months ago, and have been following you ever since. I am working my way backwards to view all of your videos. You make them so easy to follow and understand! I just watched the Bio Diversity Library and loved it! Great content for incorporating photo ideas into my POD business. I am not very techy and I do not use Photoshop, AI, etc. My question is...are there alternatives for removing the background in the images, and altering the photos by adding text using CANVA, PLACEIT or other tools like that? If so, I would love for you to share that information, and also do a How To video on that process. Thank you and keep producing these great videos!!!
@@zenwatercooler One more request for those of us who don't have enough to invest in Photoshop, can you also do a tutorial on removing the background using Photopea, GIMP, or some other free editing tool?
Can I just add these designs without editing and adding any text in rb if their isn't anyone with these designs? Or can i add these designs without any text just by using some Lightroom touchups?
The answer is yes (because the designs are in the public domain). HOWEVER, if you upload the exact same design as someone else on Redbubble or Teepublic, you could get flagged for copying someone else's design.
Where is the box popping up? Flickr will often have a general disclaimer, but if you click on the source image, it says either "no copyright" or "public domain". Once something is in the public domain, by definition no one has a sole legal claim to it.
Question from a new subscriber! Do you sell the same designs or style across all platforms? I'm wondering it there's marketing value of having a shop for each style shop that it doesn't look disjointed. Like, I love your patent idea and I found some great ones, but I don't know how it will "fit" with the direction I was going or does that even matter?
Yes I struggle with that as well, that is a great question. I think (my opinion only) that customers care more about individual designs than stores. So seeing a cute cat in a store that is mostly Ireland stickers won't necessarily be a deal breaker. So I would say do collections on RB and Teepublic and hopefully bridges the line between disjointed and totally the same.
They have a standard disclaimer on every Flickr album. They are just saying to check with the copyright holder. But there is no copyright holder. The museum is stating that it is public domain. Hope that helps,
Thanks for this wonderful information. I have a question, how do you resize to use on print on demand sites? What site do you use to resize to use on Merch by Amazon?
If you try to download it it says that "These elements, including their copyrights, belong to another Flickr member. Please respect the respective license of each element"
Great video, do you have one that talks about the difference of CC and public domain? Also with The Smurfs , Popeye, Captain Marvel being in the public domain what can you do with them if you dared that doesn't infringe trademark ?
Captain Marvel is a legal nightmare but currently the DC Captain Marvel is being called Shazam: www.plagiarismtoday.com/2019/05/29/copyright-trademark-and-the-tale-of-captain-marvel/
@@zenwatercooler yeah there trademarked which I leave alone now as not worth the risk. I had done a mashup once before because I saw one on redbubble and it got took down so trying my own thing now.
