Unfortunately after several years they’ve all faded and I keep them as rolls in a box hoping they won’t degrade any further. If you figure out how to preserve thermal paper prints please post a video.
this was my first thought. you can of course scan them but it's more fun to have the physical photo preserved. It's worth trying a UV protective coating like MSA by Golden. I assume that would help extend their life
@@mrchops same paper, the camera uses a standard receipt thermal printer and paper. The photos on the fridge were definitely exposed to sunlight, faded to a light yellow. The prints degrade over time, I don’t know if they can be preserved.
hmmm one thing i noticed was that the paper the camera uses has a different texture from the receipts we get at the store, im unsure if they are exactly the same. @@mrchops 10 years is not that long. I just wouldn’t treat these prints as something precious that would last. I have a couple of special shots of my kids that I know won’t last and I should print them on something more permanent. The prints are literal fleeting moments.
As a photographer and lover of lateral thinking cheap awesome things, I LOVE the idea of this camera. All the charm of Game Boy Camera candids but with much better clarity and wide or tall rectangular shots. But then, as someone who is very acquainted with thermal printing at this point, a lot of thermal print paper and printers are extremely susceptible to fading over time, sometimes even fading almost 100% of the image after a year or two. Not that I have a problem with the idea of making art that's only temporary/ephemeral, or that I'd have to scan or re-photograph to keep long-term, but this is the one hesitation that comes to mind for me.
A camera like this was a gift for one kid during our last Christmas. It stole the show, we all fell in love with it. We are buying one for our kids this year. It's fun as hell, works very fine and it has it's own charm, I can't define it but it really is something,.
Damn it would be pretty cool to make these pictures and then stick them at the location for other people to find, somewhat like a public time-capsule/snapshot
There is sticker thermal paper! I use it to leave some mementos through my city, lately I've been using it to put up a friend's GoFundMe for his cancer, along with a QR yo the campaign. They tend to last about 2 months.
The fact that I recognise where some of the shots were taken (Brussels), was an added incentive to get this camera or something similar. Especially architecturally, could view these spots in a different way, again. Great video and great explanation! Looking forward to experimenting.
I agree these things are great fun, I've had a few thermal printers that hooked up to my phone over blutooth, but realistically they are kind of just toys. Thermal prints don't last well, they ultimately fade with time, and even worse with exposure to pretty much anything. Even adhesives and laminates will fade them, so you cant protect them with that. Great fun though, especially for the price and the camera in this one seems great.
I actually bought one of these for my nephew a few years back after he took a liking to my mirrorless camera and took burst shots of everything. He loves it, and I have to say, its super cool just to have the fun point, shoot and print like a polaroid, but without the worry of about wasting a shot. Thermal paper for it is so cheap.

That sounds great. What is your experience about the battery: how many photos / prints can you make with one charge? And how long takes it to be charged?
@@michaelh.gerloff3659 charging takes a couple of hours and it does take&print a good few pictures per charge, the only problem I have run into is that picture quality/print darkness deteriorates when the battery gets low Also probably really depends on the *print density* setting, which basically sets how dark the image taken is printed. I got mine second hand for 20€ and the previous owner sold it to me thinking it was broken/ had bad print quality but really it was low on charge and the print density setting was set to 2 but goes up to 7. Now it prints well, or as well as you can expect this little thing to, it does struggle with contrast some times. (e.g. the timestamp is illegible most of the time on a low print density setting)
exactly what ive been looking for... ive been too broke to afford 120 and polaroid film as of late. just really needed something portable, making physical pics. yay!
I got this camera for my sister last Christmas. Can confirm they are pretty fun. But i haven't seen her play with it in a while. You can also get sticker paper for it.
Nice! You can get little thermal printers that bluetooth to your phone to print photos there too. Oh, and do some tests with the thermal paper. I use thermal printers in work with devices like credit card machines and the prints sometimes fade over time.
Ive got a collection of these in different forms, including this same model. Ive got a few that look like old Polaroid cameras, a few that look like TLR cameras, rangefinder style, Hello Kitty, a Panda one....some print larger photos than others and some have a slightly different look to the photos. They are a hit at parties and weddings. Fun stuff!
Which one would you say prints the most detail? I got a dinosaur one but the quality is so so. I wasn't expecting much but was still kinda disappointed, even after playing with all the settings. Looking to get another.
@@JayJJay185 The two from Kidamento produce the most detail. Model P, Koko the Panda and the Hello Kitty model. They arent cheap but like most anything else, you get what you pay for. As for the cheap Amazon models, any of the ones by Eveedo. Typically, the ones that look like actual cameras. The ones with silicone cases like unicorns, dinosaurs and such are pretty poor quality all around.
I got my hands on a thermal printer with an app for your phone. it gives a bit more control on the dithering, but it's not as instant as this camera. Also, I found rolls of sticker paper, so instant photo stickers I guess ?
I might just get this! I was really into film photography a few years ago but it got too expensive. This looks like a nice cheap way to get back into photography :)
what an amazing rec!! thank u!!! i wanted to buy the fujifilm instax vevo for a similar reason of taking more polaroid/instant printed pics but not wasting money on bad shots but that camera itself is $200!! this will do the same thing but be so much cheaper and easier to use!
It has been more than 1 month since I took those pictures and they look exactly the same as in the video, they have been in a photo album and some extras in a memory box. The paper manufacturers claim in optimal conditions (away from direct sunlight) they last up to 10 years.
Scan them right away to save the image digitally. If the external temperature goes above 80F, your image may start to degrade. I have thermal printouts that just became dark blocks of nothing over time. This is a fun novelty that I love to see, but it’s not designed to last. Thank you for the video!
Got this because of your video. Best purchase ive made in a loooong time. Love the photo option, but was also reaaally suprised by how fun just printing fun stuff and labels is. Thanks so much for the recommendation❤
This is wonderful. I love my Polaroid camera(passed down from my grandpa). But it’s increasingly expensive to buy an 8 pack of film for nearly $35 CAD. This seems like a ton of fun and black and white is fine by me because I honestly prefer black and white for instant photography.
Just got one, did not test it yet, however I can’t seem to find how to remove the date stamp, I see that you have those on too in your video, so my guess is you can’t turn them off, sadly.
It actually doesn't really bother me. If you want a photo with no date stamp, you can always upload any photo with the same size and print it in the gallery!
Such a good idea! I always hesitated to buy the instax for example because of the cost and I was afraid that the fun wouldn't last long, but with this cute kids version, I am seriously reconsidering😊
Careful with the thermal prints, the keyword is thermal. Improper storage and exposure to heat will make the photos disappear. The only downside that keeps me to not get one 😢
So glad I found this video! I'm going on a trip in January and even though I love my film camera there's so many pics I don't take just because it's so expensive 😭. This is perfect and I can just take a bit of tape and my journal with me in order to keep track of everything I see
I just got the camera, but I can't seem to find a way to turn off the watermark with the date/time in the settings, and this User Manual is lacking. Anyone in these comments know how to get rid of it?
Any tips on why I can’t print pictures after they’re already on the sd card?? I thought you could save them and print each photo more than once. Please I just got this camera and I feel like I’m just dumb
I have a version of this camera I got from 5below for $25 under the brand called up-tech and I’m in love with it. I don’t think they make refills for the one I have but can use the same ones from that camera on it. The sticker paper doesn’t work as well tho
Hey! I checked it again and it works :) The link is supposed to redirect you to a more general search, instead of a specific model. All of the cameras that appear do exactly the same, they mostly differ in different shapes
Thermal printers are absolutely awesome for any social events, journaling tools or even labels (check my latest community post in my profile!). Being completely real with you, I personally bring it to any party or social event and the reactions from the people always makes everyones day. According to the thermal paper manufacturers, these should last max 10 years in optimal conditions, so realistically they last years. For really long term projects this isn't the tool you want, but it excels solely because how cheap it is to print. Giving them to people or using it as a tool for notes or labels as well as improving your photography skills is exactly what this is for. For less than $40 it is something I never regret buying. This video is not sponsored or anything, I was just genuinely excited for it hahah. I hope this helps to better understand (ps: if anything you can reprint or scan/take a picture to really have them long term)
How long will those photos last before they fade away like an old receipt? I would love something like that for journaling and my sketchbook, but would be afraid the image would deteriorate over time. Is there a way to coat the paper to keep the image permanent? Would this be an easy way to transfer the image to make a linocut print? So many possibilities!
Saw this and instantly ordered one - now it’s here I was just wondering if anyone’s found a way to upload photos you’ve already taken to print with the camera?
Yes! you can just put any photo to the microsd card and print it in the gallery, just make sure to that the photo has the same dimensions. I'm currently using it to do custom gifts where I add text and photos to print them!
I already own an Instax 300 Wide and was thinking of adding an Evo due to the LCD option to be able to view the image prior to printing, however, after seeing this I’m going to try and snag one of these first

Which one would you recommend?
This is a beautiful video!
Bro your content has extraordinary Power to make people easily attract ❤️
I would love this as a kid!!
I love this so much. Way to use your perspective to turn play time into your craft. Also, your music mixing is geniusss
I got my hands on a thermal printer with an app for your phone. it gives a bit more control on the dithering, but it's not as instant as this camera. Also, I found rolls of sticker paper, so instant photo stickers I guess ?
thank you for showing me this! i’ve wanted a cheap more vintage camera for a long time and this showed me which one is the most fun!
I'm really glad, enjoy!
I might just get this! I was really into film photography a few years ago but it got too expensive. This looks like a nice cheap way to get back into photography :)
Careful with BPA/BPS papers. For the rest looks interesting 😊
what an amazing rec!! thank u!!! i wanted to buy the fujifilm instax vevo for a similar reason of taking more polaroid/instant printed pics but not wasting money on bad shots but that camera itself is $200!! this will do the same thing but be so much cheaper and easier to use!
usally thermal paper prints dont last so long and fade out. How long have you had your photos for and have they faded at all?
It has been more than 1 month since I took those pictures and they look exactly the same as in the video, they have been in a photo album and some extras in a memory box. The paper manufacturers claim in optimal conditions (away from direct sunlight) they last up to 10 years.
@@mrchops thank you! Great video! Thinking of getting one.
Thanks so much for the recommendation❤
hey i'm really glad!
This does look fun. I would love to see someone do a long term project with it. Might do it myself.
This was an excellent video! Thank you!!
Duuuuuuuude. This is so fun! I'm totally getting one right now from your link. So thank you! Wooooo!
This is wonderful. I love my Polaroid camera(passed down from my grandpa). But it’s increasingly expensive to buy an 8 pack of film for nearly $35 CAD. This seems like a ton of fun and black and white is fine by me because I honestly prefer black and white for instant photography.
This is now tops on my gift list!!! (and I might sneak one in for myself😉)
Great idea!
This looks perfect for collage art
I got this camera because of you! You’re right it is really fun
Thank you for sharing! It really is, I still use it from time to time :) Have fun!
Just bought something similar from Amazon and also got 50% discount on it. Love the photos you took and the composition
Honestly go for it! I still take it in my pocket when i go out or any event. Priceless memories
That image quality is pretty astonishing!
Careful with the thermal prints, the keyword is thermal. Improper storage and exposure to heat will make the photos disappear. The only downside that keeps me to not get one 😢
Yeah...like receipts I guess. You can keep them legible for years but you really have to care for them.
first time i see this and i already want to buy it 😆good video!
Just FYI, there is a sticker termal paper, so you can paste those photos in notebook etc.
Thank you for making this video!!
So glad I found this video! I'm going on a trip in January and even though I love my film camera there's so many pics I don't take just because it's so expensive 😭. This is perfect and I can just take a bit of tape and my journal with me in order to keep track of everything I see
Gave a similar camera to my 3 year old for Christmas. Huge hit.
This proves that photographing is just about framing and texture
Amazing video, would be interested in how a slightly more engineered version would turn out
I really like your video editing and i'll definitely check this camera out! Great video and message!
thank you so much ian!
Do you know of a way to turn off the date stamp?
I just got the camera, but I can't seem to find a way to turn off the watermark with the date/time in the settings, and this User Manual is lacking. Anyone in these comments know how to get rid of it?
Just purchased the exact same one! What are the best settings?
print mode has to be on "full" otherwise it just prints the picture with visible dots (which not bad, just a different style!)
Have you found a way to get rid of the time stamp?
This would be sick if you could export the color images too
youtube send this to me. I love it! Great work and camera. Love every second of it
Got myself one instantly and it's AMAZING! 😍🔥
awesome! I think its also such a hidden gem for a gift, enjoy!
what is the name and make of this camera? , because i like the wideness of the photo
this video changed my life
In got one of the temu thermal printers and it was fun but didn’t have as much color, it was all gray and less clear
did you check the settings? This one you can print either full or dotted. All the pictures in the video are in "full"'
Any tips on why I can’t print pictures after they’re already on the sd card?? I thought you could save them and print each photo more than once. Please I just got this camera and I feel like I’m just dumb
go to the gallery and choose the photo you want to print, then press the button to take a picture, it will print it out!
Any tips to avoid the prints to fade away with time and sunlight ?
I have a version of this camera I got from 5below for $25 under the brand called up-tech and I’m in love with it. I don’t think they make refills for the one I have but can use the same ones from that camera on it. The sticker paper doesn’t work as well tho
Letterbox format helps as well. Really cool.
Reminds me of the old gameboy camera and printer. Uses thermal as well I think
I ordered one. Excited to make a B&W collage. 📸😀
Thanks for the idea! I bought one and I love it!
hey, that's great! I hope you have lots of fun :)
I love it! These photos don’t vanish over time like receipts do?
They don't! If you keep them in an album they stay (according to the thermal paper manufacturers) up to 10 years
The link to the other models that do exactly the same does not work anymore. Could you please share the name of the model? Thank you!
Hey! I checked it again and it works :) The link is supposed to redirect you to a more general search, instead of a specific model. All of the cameras that appear do exactly the same, they mostly differ in different shapes
@@mrchops Got it, thank you! :)
Awesome! Is the medium plastic or paper? Also, do the prints fade over time?
I heard the pictures will fade over time. Is that true? That was the reason i never bought a thermal printing camera
I hope this helps to better understand
(ps: if anything you can reprint or scan/take a picture to really have them long term)
@mrchops yes it does, thank you for taking the time :)
How long will those photos last before they fade away like an old receipt? I would love something like that for journaling and my sketchbook, but would be afraid the image would deteriorate over time. Is there a way to coat the paper to keep the image permanent? Would this be an easy way to transfer the image to make a linocut print? So many possibilities!
if they are in a sketchbook you dont need to worry about them! As long as they are away from direct sunlight they should last for years
Saw this and instantly ordered one - now it’s here I was just wondering if anyone’s found a way to upload photos you’ve already taken to print with the camera?
Yes! you can just put any photo to the microsd card and print it in the gallery, just make sure to that the photo has the same dimensions. I'm currently using it to do custom gifts where I add text and photos to print them!
Would you be able to ModPodge clear coat the pictures, to seal them?
unfortunately that makes them fade faster
man that’s sad. What else do you recommend to seal them?@@WhatsPreciousMakesAnyoneScared
There is also a slightly higher spec'd 20MP version of this camera as well. Only available though in Dinosaur.
Wait for real or is it interpolated? Link please?
I think he is talking about this one: amzn.to/3XTc1ua
But to be fair I think they all do about the same?
@@mrchops They are all the same lol. Ive got a few that are 48 megapixels, photos all look the same as my 12 megapixel cameras.
I have one of these but I’m worried about how to store the photos so they don’t completely fade away! Any tips?
Being a broke PhD student, I can't afford an Instax or a Kodak long term. This is a great cheaper alternative to play around with.
hi! does the print fade over time? how do you preserve the photos?
The paper manufacturers say they last up to 10 years. The photos I took for this video still look exactly the same (I checked today hahah).
Id like to know how well it works in the cold. Currently - 20 Celsius outside
hmmm, not super sold on the camera itself but I do have a couple thermal printers. The paper for them is even less expensive per print.
I already own an Instax 300 Wide and was thinking of adding an Evo due to the LCD option to be able to view the image prior to printing, however, after seeing this I’m going to try and snag one of these first
