    Base-superstructure is not outlined by Marx, neither is 'false consciousness.' Marx, at least in his later work, does not seem to me to be a positivist. I would rather call him more of an emergentist and place him closer to Durkheim in that respect. And the so-called economic determinism is generally not found in Marx, rather, it is more of an invention of Engels and later Marxists. Even early Soviet Marxists like Voloshinov who examined the base-superstructure model, rejected economic determinism.
