I love mine. Use it almost as a boost/comp most of the time. Sounds so sweet and sustain is magical. I like putting it on a dirty amp. I love the unique spund of it. Can also be super transparent. You applied it very well here. I got mine from musician friend stupid deal of the day for $70 last year.
I loved it. I loved the Strymon. I don’t know what you did this video but your tone was really good. You didn’t make a tone I didn’t like. I kind of want a ds-1 and an sd-1 just to have them, so I’ll probably still ab this pedal to them. Cheers!
Hey Elmo, another good video mate! The pedal sounds really dull - I had a similar issue with the MXR Super Badass distortion which got replaced by a variety of pedals (all of which were cheaper). It could be the way MXR voice these pedals for brighter amps or with a specific tube-set in mind (6L6, 6V6, etc.) as I have never been happy with an MXR distortion/overdrive with my rigs in comparison to companies like Boss, ProCo, Wampler, etc.
5:56 and 6:35 sounds like some Downing or Tipton tones...whichever one played the strat/single-coil on British Steel and Out for Vengence(correct title?), the album with "HELLION..." You gottanother coming...
Speaking of "difficult to pronounce," it's "Wry Gene," not "Ragin'." He's a Japanese lightning/thunder god. (You don't want Wry Gene to be ragin' at you. Maybe just call him "this guy.") en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raijin
Great playing as always. I think though that you’re wrong in expecting every pedal to sound the same. You said you’re not convinced. Convinced of what? Just take that pedal for what it is. It’s not a TubeScreamer or DS-1. It’s apples to oranges. I thought it sounded fine, albeit a bit noisy at high gains. Probably made for people who run amps clean.
I certainly don't expect every pedal to sound the same. I like a whole bunch of different pedals (Revv G3, EVH 5150, MXR Timmy, SD-1, Riverside, DS-2...the list goes on). Just didn't like this one.
Well . . . who TF are you and where have you been all this time? lol This is the first time I've seen your videos and I'm hooked. Love your playing. Subscribed!
Great vid, its a shame about the mxr, I had high hopes for this pedal, but it just lacks so many things. whenever I've used a pedal that's two things in one its never good at either, take care mate
@@MrPolevaulter Ive never heard of strymon have you done a vid ? I'm at home with with my very small rig, I'm so used to it ya know ? its not a rut its my sound, like when I use the wha which makes it so powerful with the gain up, its the sheer power of the sound when I hit it. Scary almost in control but its still nuanced like a razors edge & you try not to fall of especially with a Strat that's basically a 71 yjmafied ( I think I made up a word )very low output, that's why I like the stacked single wether its dimarzio or Seymour Duncan . Its really like a smack in the face ha. Its my sound dammit & I'm still tweaking it after decades. Ill be starting a channel in a while its a lot to set up as you know. Take care mate
Thanks Elmo, you make it look so easy & having a channel is not easy like people think. I'm going to try to be as live as possible, if I make a mistake it will stay they're . But it quite a big undertaking to say the least, I really have my hands full though. Take Care Mate.
This pedal just didn't sound good to me. Not bad, just something about it I didn't like compared to your stryman. Stryman of course makes great stuff. Also, I've never seen this pedal for sale in the states or heard of it, but there are millions of gain pedals, overdrive and distortion pedals. I do look quite often though on reverb, sweetwater, and zzsounds.com and like to think I keep up with newer gain pedals that are main stream, etc. Hope you and yours are well kind sir. Great playing man.

I love your playing Elmo , and your tone is always great . 👍🏼
Many thanks!!
thanks for for the review as usual; I'm always looking for new pedals.
Happy to help!
I got the other MXR Suzuki collab pedal, the Shin Juku.
I love it. It's a dumble style, sounds way different than this.

Great video Elmo! You're the best! 🎸🤘🤩🤘🎸
Thanks man! You're not too bad yourself :)
This guy has great demo's.

Cheers! Yeah, dull is probably the word.
4:35 reminds me MUCh of RB's tone on the Rainbow album "Long Live Rock and Roll!" That with the plexi and strat sound so much like Ritchie.
Be interested in what you think about the Ebow. Not an expensive gadget, but different.
Haven't really played with those (just tried one once ages ago), so I can't really say.
Nice playing
Cheers!

Great review. It doesn’t sound to bad. Not really for me though.
You need to plug into that Boogie a lot more often !! Lol 😎
The Boogie isn't mine. I've done a video on it though.
Yes, I think you are right, maybe it’s not designed for interact with a crunchy plexi.
For me it’s sounds too muddy dark and noisy
Yeah, maybe not.

You should try the Seymour Duncan 805 Drive Pedal...
Thanks for the tip!
@@MrPolevaulter I definitely want this Seymour Duncan Drive Pedal... It has lows, mids, and highs EQ... Helps to dial in tones.

True, although I've liked the Strymon stuff. They manage to make pedals that do a few things really well.

is it a good pedal for boosting a mesa boogie without changing the color tone? Thank you!
Dunno.
Also, can you review a pedal that makes me play like you? :)
Haha :D Thanks!
So am I... I'm not convinced no more!
Yep.
I'd like to hear it with high gain humbuckers...

$130 vs $300 pedal isn't really a fair comparison.
I have $25 dollar pedals that sound better than this imo.
Paid $129.99 US for mine.
I don't hear any difference
