When I got out of debt, I took my mother and myself on a cruise to Alaska about 4 months ago. I took an Uber from the hotel to the port and when we got there the driver took out our luggage and I proceeded to hand him a $50 bill. He was so happy that he gave me and my mom a hug. For all I know I could of just fed him/his family for the day.

I’m so happy to have Dave’s teachings in my life now. At 49 making 100k+ a year and living paycheck to paycheck.... just a shame. Giving my money to whatever whim struck me at the moment. Now my wife is entering into 100+ salary range and with our combined income we have a huge shovel. Found financial peace University just in time. I have been on the Ramsey plan 2 weeks and will have 4 credit debts paid next month! In 6 months will be super close to baby step 3!!!!!! My wife and I now TALK about money.... just not on what to buy next. We talk about the future and are becoming excited to live like no one else. Dave’s revelations have not only changed the course of our financial lives, but also have re-strengthened an already wonderful marriage which was headed towards the rocks because of money! Many thanks Dave Ramsey. Many thanks.

Because of Dave I avoided purchasing a boat with money my wife and I didn't have. After going through my finances last month I found I was $169,000 in debt. Most of them being student loans ($140,000). Now we are on a budget and we're chunking away at it. I expect to pay off $60,000 this year and hopefully be debt free in 3 years. I was stupid thinking I could add more to the balance without consequence. I believe that because of the advice given on this channel I will be able to become a better, more responsible husband to create a better life for my wife and I. Dave, if you're reading this... thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

There are different stages and seasons of life that you need different levels of sophistication in money advice. But if you never master the basics like Dave teaches than you will never be ready to master more detailed money management. There is no easy way. I’ve tried “easy” and it didn’t work and now circling back to good old Dave principles to dig us out of our “easy” money hole of debt. Thanks Dave! 🙂

BlackWorldTraveler congratulations on your life choices. Dave’s point and my point are not in conflict with yours. It is elementary. Very very basic. It’s just that most people make bad decisions when facing an unforeseen financial obstacle, even if they made good decisions when things were going according to plan. It’s not because they haven’t figured out what they should do but because they get panicked when life goes off plan. Sounds like that isn’t you so that’s awesome for you. 🙂

Love Dave's wisdom.when I was a little girl ,I remember my dad coming home at Christmas time from work.he was a very hard working window cleaner ,out in all weathers,I remember him telling my mum that a customer had given him a Christmas box,he meant a tip.i wonder if him saying box was something to do with the true meaning of Boxing Day,anyway he said a customer had given him a Christmas box and he was so so grateful and happy he probably had more but that's the one I've remembered and I've never forgotten it,so now I give tips when I can even to the postman even when I've barely had the money,it brings me joy,I also give to charities monthly and my son just started his first apprenticeship on minimum wage and I've discussed this with him too.i am in the uk and I've never been to USA but it appears you are tippers for a lot of things naturally than the uk we do tip but I've not seen it as much. Your ahead of us and I think that's great and I hope the uk catches up.

Our net worth is $2.8M and my wife is still working. I retired 12 years ago. But I work every-once-awhile. Worked at local small town post office for 3.5 years recently. 12 stacks of packages, 4' X 6' pallets, 7 feet high on an average day. Most of this stuff never gets used and ends up filling basements and garages, sold at garage sales never opened. All bought on credit cards. It's a disease. Thanks for your service. Oh, and also, one of the main reasons I left was my life was threatened 16 times a year--mainly because we require a signature on the back of credit cards or we hadn't delivered something that hadn't been mailed yet.

All the servers hated working on Sunday morning when church got out. Pastors/ministers/priests were the worst. They had appalling manners too.

I always tip, unless it’s really really horrible service. I worked as a server for a year and it’s not as easy as people make it out to be, standing for 8hrs, dealing with customers demands, back of the house and management BS then getting paid minimum, there’s a sense of helplessness when you get your peanut paycheque which barely cover your bills. Tips end up as a blessing.

I rent and my landlady is offering to sell my place to me before she puts it on the market. I'm still on babystep 2. Normally I might consider buying this townhome but these videos have shown me otherwise. Thanks Dave.

At least inquire about the price and possible financing options. It may be a really good deal or terms you can work with to lower your monthly rent and convert it into something you are building equity with. You will most likely get a mortgage at some point, and this may be a good opportunity. I have sold rental properties to my tenants before and did agreements for deed. This solution worked well for both parties.

I am almost always a really good tipper, usually starting at 20 percent and going from there. I’ve given a few poor servers 15% and only once have not tipped at all. Not only was he a bad waiter he actually insulted my husband, not once, but twice. My husband was the one that said absolutely no way were we tipping, but I didn’t argue, and I usually would have.

On the subject of tipping, got really good advice about tipping from the movie "Reservoir Dogs" during the restaurant scene when they are eating breakfast, Mr. Pink didn't want to tip the waitress because she didn't bring him enough coffee. Lol!!!

27 years old, got steps 1 2 and 4 done. chipping away at number 3 while waiting preparing for my wedding in the next year. other than mortgage all i got are student loans and the engagement rings/wedding bands. paying no interest and totaling about 7 grand. maxing out roth IRA and about 10% into 401k. half roth 401k and other half standard. (i dont think employers ever invest in a roth 401k but please keep me honest about that)

I don't want a huge house. I just want a nice car, a dual sport motorcycle, and a cabin in the woods. I'm a simple man. All I want is to leave a legacy for my nephews. Your channel is helping me greatly toward that. I'm 29 and had to file chapter 7 two years ago and about 6 months later fell insanely ill, wrecked my car which led to having no choice but to finance a car on a first time buyer program because if I didn't have a vehicle I would have had no ride to work which would be catastrophic because I live in BFE (with family), and then I suffered a nasty injury that ran up more doctor bills. In the last year I have brought my debts down from $27,000 to around $11,000 by getting a significant raise, working a stupid amount of overtime, driving for Lyft and doing side jobs on my days off, selling everything I own, and I have completely quit eating out. I do still plan to have my channel just for a small hobby but when I get a new item I now sell the old one first instead of collecting blades and multitools. My life has changes so significantly since I came across your channel

I think tipping is weird.. Especially when the waitressing jobs dont pay but a few dollars an hour to begin with.
Give your wait staff a livable wage so tipping isnt the difference between groceries or rent getting paid.
Tipping should be based on service given.. It should be a happy extra.. Not necessity

Dave, do you give advice to people that live in other countries? I’m getting a lot out of your advice but sometimes it doesnt apply to where I live, New Zealand. For instance, we dont tip in New Zealand. Its just not done.

Then you can be the first one to start. Dave says don’t be normal. So if non tipping is normal where you live, then start tipping. It will make you a better person, it will open your heart.

True, but I also think we need to look at the other side of the coin. People need to make more money. Some callers, say what they do and I am like your skills and contributions are being undervalued. If your absence could dismantle or injure a business, you ask for more or take your offerings elsewhere.
