i was stuck on 800 in rapid for months before i watched your videos, now im still stuck on 800 but i have something calming to watch after 15 straight losses ❤
try to read some books and playing the positions in ur board if u have the oportunity, i've been recently get out of 800 thanks to that. I'll defenetly get better soon! ❤
😂 try not to blunder ,pick a couple of solid openings and learn them well, always analyse your games and see what went wrong and do lots of puzzles you'll be at +1000 elo in no time
The way Eric slices through the opponent's defenses like a hot knife through butter whilst only doing "simple moves" is SO instructive! I admire your style of chess greatly, Eric! Thanks for the great lessons!
I love the format of this series, just playing solid chess against lower rated players and explaining everything, like "Things I wished I had known when I was at this elo"
Eric, I love watching this series. I appreciate you playing just as you think you should, without adjusting any technique to any rating. It’s giving a lot of new perspective. Please start again if this series ever ends! Happy new year 🎉
It's difficult to express how much I'm enjoying this series. Thank you for posting and the time format allows plenty of games with good analysis and explanation.
Timestamps and takeaways for our benefit. 0:00 White vs French Defense (Tarasch variation) : Development and center control. Black should play c5 in these positions. 10:30 Black vs Nimzo Larsen: Develop normal and classically vs the Hippo, maintain the space advantage, aim to open a line 19:57 Queen's Gambit Declined (Cambridge Springs): Feel good opening trap. Prioritize defense in the middle game when up material. 28:06 White vs Sicilian (Delayed Alapin): Expanding with tempo, knocking pieces around. Check > capture tactic.
Frankly I'm more of a sledgehammer than a rapier guy! A trait of advanced drivers is that they are passed by as many cars as they pass, which makes me a good chess player! A cat's motto is, when in doubt wash. (h/t Paul Gallico.) So, when in doubt attack! I have learned from you to keep looking for winning tactics and to take every opportunity to push pieces north.
Relaxed, fun, chess coaching. Really enjoying this series in the UK. Thanks Eric... I doubt anyone would accurately guess your increased heart rate against higher rated opponents!
Love how much this episode combines opening theory, is littered with helpful principles, and helps to see traps and strong attacks! My coach has recently been showing me the value of pawn sacrifices, when other principles are followed well early on. Happy to see how much this series is transforming beyond cozy friday night vibes, into deeper sharp educational play! Or maybe it's just that my understanding is getting much better, from my 1 on 1 lessons.
So useful videos. I love this speedrun series. So many simple traps and tricks and tactics, which really apply directly to the type of games you see at my level (1300)
Have a happy new year, and thank you very much for your definition of "initiative," which I usually think about as asserting one's vague idea of what should happen in the future, regardless of any temporary attacks. In my understanding it was possible theoretically for a player defending to have the initiative. Your definition is more consistent with the way most people use the word, I'd say.
Started playing chess around June last year and had been stuck around 1100 for the past couple months, but something you said about prioritising piece development and playing active chess really clicked with me, and in the last 2 weeks I’ve gone from 1150 to 1500! Thanks! :)
You're the best, Eric! Although you sometimes use chess terminology that is "a bit" out of scope, your videos are both enjoyable and instructive to watch.
re 18:30 sudden checks & mate, I had a game just last Tuesday over the board like that, I was black, pian caro'd, (spelling?) white did similar, we kept things very tight... then half way through middle game I had a simple horse Queen mate... surprised us both.
25:20 my instinct is to play Qd5 here to try and trade the Queens while also defending against their main threat when I'm a piece up. Maybe white has Qg4 to refuse the trade and I haven't looked any deeper because it isn't my game. But I'd be looking to see if I can continue attacking the queen while developing in that line before committing to Qd5. I'm mostly just curious why you never mentioned or seemed to consider Qd5 at all @Eric Rosen
He’s played the f-pawn after castling kingside in earlier games in this speedrun as well, to grab the f-file with the rook. In this case I think it was the opponent’s g4 move that led him to think in terms of checkmating with the rook and queen.
Hi Eric, not sure if you'll see this, but are there cases in the Cambridge Springs where Ba3 is a threat? Kind of similar to the London trap you've shown in a few videos when white gets Ba6 (for instance in your Andrea Botez London Lesson Video)? I feel like there should be as it seems to be an almost mirror image of that position but I can't seem to get it to work. Thanks!

Gold lol

800 gang gang 🎉

Beautiful. The power of Eric Rosen.
"I don't think this move harmonizes well with the black position" is nice Eric language for "this guy has no flipping idea what he's doing."
The way Eric slices through the opponent's defenses like a hot knife through butter whilst only doing "simple moves" is SO instructive! I admire your style of chess greatly, Eric! Thanks for the great lessons!

"Delayed Bongcloud" I love Eric's humor.
Very underrated move actually.
Hands down the best chess series on TH-cam. Thanks for walking us through your thought processes as you play. Please keep these videos coming!
I'm addicted to your speedrun videos.

Even in lower-rated games I learn a bunch of stuff and enjoy your smooth play. Thanks Eric!
These speedrun videos are gifts that keep on giving! Thank you Eric

I’ve watched every video so far, really excited for the videos around 1500~ which is around where I am settled. Thank you Eric :)
Your videos always come when I need them. Thank you, Eric!
I love this series. Probably not a lot of fun for Eric, but I'm learning a lot!
I really like this speedrun series as I need opening work but I can't believe you're 61-0 and not rated 1100 yet!
i'm stuck 1000-1100 so these vids have been super educational
Pin pieces
Really enjoying the speedrun content man, please keep it up. Hope you have a good year
Love the content man! You explain things well with good pase, really enjoying chess the way I did video games back then
So useful videos. I love this speedrun series. So many simple traps and tricks and tactics, which really apply directly to the type of games you see at my level (1300)
The sweater will not be denied.
Best speed run ever. Love your approach to the game!
This should be called the "NO Mercy" Speedrun. ... great stuff, Mr. Rosen.
Yes, I've always liked that one: The attack follows the pawn chain.
Have a happy new year, and thank you very much for your definition of "initiative," which I usually think about as asserting one's vague idea of what should happen in the future, regardless of any temporary attacks. I love the 'Chessmas' jumper, Eric!
*Eric slaughters opponent*
Eric: Yeah, pretty straight forward game.
Started playing chess around June last year and had been stuck around 1100 for the past couple months, but something you said about prioritising piece development and playing active chess really clicked with me, and in the last 2 weeks I’ve gone from 1150 to 1500! Thanks! :)
Never been able to crack 1780. Been playing since middle school in my 30s now.
Thanks. Really good to hear and see the reasoning behind decision making.👍
Awesome series! Keep em coming Eric
Man I love watching your videos, just found them yesterday!
Thanks Eric, those games were beautiful.
You're the best, Eric! Although you sometimes use chess terminology that is "a bit" out of scope, your videos are both enjoyable and instructive to watch.
Me when there is a new speedrun ep > 🤩 Me when the ep ends > 😭
High quality content!!
Another great video.Happy New Year !!!!
Your videos are the highlight of my week
I want to play like speedrun Eric Rosen. Calm reasonable moves until opponent messes up, then GG (all opponents pieces disappear, check mate or both)!
I have 2100 rapid rating but still this videos r good & also reminds me of my olds days love u eric❤❤❤
All I want for christmas is to spend all my money on Eric Rosen's new "facing d4" course coming soon to an internet site near you!
thanks eric! id love to see the dutch defense
I love the happy Eric Rosen thumbnails
I'm poggin everytime new EP drops 🤩🥳💯💥
Eric : plays Nf to c3 blocking his bishop.
Player : plays the same.
Eric : this is bad it blocks the bishop.
I'm torn. Eric videos switch between making me want to play dubiously, and then really solidly
instructive speedrun
This series is amazing
Good videos. Great sweater
learning so much. rhanks a lot!
hi eric love the videos can you please go over the game review after games ?
lovely video
Nh5 was such a cool move in the first game. Took me about three minutes to find!
re 18:30 sudden checks & mate, I had a game just last Tuesday over the board like that, I was black, pian caro'd, (spelling?) white did similar, we kept things very tight... then half way through middle game I had a simple horse Queen mate... surprised us both.
*opponent 3 moves in* "yeah that was a mistake"
Was hoping you would allow Winawer in French and make it crazy but it's still cool.
Love your videos man
Best Streamer Ever - Watch his twitch!
I would like to hear Eric ruminate on the distinction between being "solid" and being "passive".
THE POWER OF F5 COMPELS YOU 19.19
This is therapy
nice jumper
Nice sweater doggy!
Great series. Thanks

18:05 "Delayed Bongcloud" lol!!
The opening from Eric in the last game, isn't this the ponziani?
I like that sweater!
Seems like at this rating the players know some theory but can't calculate opponent threats.
Well done
8:57 mate in 3 Horse to H5, if pawn takes Queen to H7 if the pawn doesn't take Queen to G7.
love these
31:45 Isn't there Qa4+ winning the knight? The knight can't retreat to block the check because of the d pawn
25:00 Qd5 is the same evaluation and more active
At 24:00 you don't seem to consider playing queen G2 which I find to be a big threat to enemy roox. Why is that?
Sweater collection is en pointe 👌🏾
In game 2, how did you come up with the plan of f5? It is not an idea that would have occurred to me
He’s played the f-pawn after castling kingside in earlier games in this speedrun as well, to grab the f-file with the rook. In this case I think it was the opponent’s g4 move that led him to think in terms of checkmating with the rook and queen.
That was pleasant

can u continue the speedrun until 2400?
Will you be playing the Ponziani sometime in this series?
Yes, I plan to eventually!
Black has to play the delayed bonglcoud.. 😂
Watches the video, gets inspired, loses ten games in a row
😂😂😂same here
Definitely! I also implement the “Rosen commentary” while I play. Still lose 😢
BAM
I like your sweater
Eric, I must point out that Tarrasch's name, at least in English, has the accent on the first syllable. Any Germans can weigh in on their POV.
4:25 why couldn't the knight go to b3?
I have so bad memory i can never be good at chess and remember openings 😢
re voice, honey with lemon is a nice soothe. Also a sip of port. Or, if you're health conscious drink more water. Sore throat is just dehydration.
nice sweater
At the first game, why did black resign? He could have played Bishop f6? Or not? 🤔
8:45 would knight h5 be a brilliant move
oh bruh he plays that move right after
In the second last game why not Queen G5 => G2?
I didn't want to deal with Nd6+, but that should still be good for black after Kd8
@@eric-rosenAh I see. So you had already planned to go Qc7! I hope I am using the notation correctly😅.
I miss playing 1000s
Let's see a Botez gambit at these low levels.
Delayed bong cloud 💀
How do you know this much
Would have been a great series but trashed by so many ads, shame!
