  • In today's video, I show you how I made all of the hay feeders for my DIY bunny cages. I don't like to waste materials, so I am making these hay feeders from left over materials used in my cage builds. This is a really easy project and a great way to use up those left over scraps of wire.

Why would you make it mess on your side? You want all the hay on the ground???????

The hay feeders are on the outside of the cage so that they're easy to fill without having to open every cage (this is helpful with small children who don't always latch doors properly) The bunnies are able to pull the hay through their cage wall without any trouble and very little ends up on the ground. They get hay, I get an easy to fill feeder.

Those worked out great best ones I've seen made on TH-cam. I was able to put it on the inside of the cage on the barrier wall separating my rabbits and 1 feeder is taking care of 2 rabbits. Thank you

Pretty cool. I see why you add the 1*1 inch screen but you could have just made a smaller hole about 3 inches wide from top to bottom and as wide as your feeder from left to right so they can pull the hay through. This would encourage them to eat more hay cuz some bunnies are lazy and don't like to work that hard for their hay when they have pellets made with hay in them that they can get easier

So the wire I used is 1x.5 cage wire, I got it at rural king. What I’m using in this video is just scraps I had left over from cage builds. Wire cutters and hammer my husband already had but any hardware store will do. I got the Jclips(cage clips) and pliers on amazon as well as the cage door guards. Hope this helps

@@FarmGirlInProgress thanks yeah, never knew where to get the cage guards or jclips( cage clips) or even what they were called.

Thanks for the vid. I want to build your entire setup!! I’m only 13 but I have 4 mini Rex and I’m hoping to build up my rabbitry and eventually save up to build this. I have $400 right now but my birthday is in 3 weeks and maybe I will get $100 from that and my 2 does are due for their first litters around my birthday so wish me luck! 💕💕love your channel. Poor dukey boy!!!

Glad you are back! Love the amount of detail you include in your videos. Planning to make another set of hutches this spring and will be including alot of the upgrades like the hay feeder you have shared on this video into my build. Bummer about Duke. Thanks! Justin

Glad to be back! I’ve got a couple new vids lined up but trying to space them out. Winter means less content unfortunately 🤷‍♀️ I’ve recorded a rabbitry update that will be dropping soon, so keep an eye out 😉

The piece you cut out for the cage door could work. It would be taller, not as wide and should hold the same amount of hay. Fit it to the outside of the door to make room for the pellet feeder and water bottles on the cage side areas.

You can video your rabbit giving birth

This would be really tough to do unless I had maybe a trail camera. Bunnies are pray animals and are very secretive about their births, also it only lasts about 30 minutes. I’ve never caught them in process, only after the fact 🤷‍♀️ but it would be neat to catch!
