    Guns N Roses was unique in the level of quality in the band members. You simply cannot debate who the greatest guitar player of all time is without discussing Slash. And Axl Rose is arguable the greatest male singer in history (which, for these purposes, kind only goes back to when we started recording music). The only person with a superior vocal range is Mariah Carey. And even then, Axl is just incredible versatile in style and performance.

    • @dennisjohnsen187

      Slash is a hack - you think he compares to Tosin Abasi (Animals as Leaders) or Alex Lifeson (Rush) or Stevie Ray Vaughan. He is minor league.

    • @thomasreitemeyer4778
      @thomasreitemeyer4778 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Axl greatest male singer in history? Just two off the top of my head that blow him away are Freddie Mercury and Bing Crosby. Both sang in more genres and much better...and Freddie's vocal range is far superior. Axl is interesting for what he does, but would never consider him even a top 25 and probably not a top 50 singer in "history".

    • @TheNotoriousCheeto
      @TheNotoriousCheeto 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@thomasreitemeyer4778 Freddie Mercury had a great voice and an impressive catalog, but his vocal range only cover three octaves compared to Axl Rose's five octave range. Bing Crosby was less than two octaves. While Axl's songs were more focused on a specific style, what he was capable of doing blows the other two away.
      It's like Picasso; just because he isn't famous for photo realistic paintings doesn't mean he couldn't do them. He just had his own artistic style.

    • @thomasreitemeyer4778
      @thomasreitemeyer4778 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheNotoriousCheeto I hear what you’re saying. I stated “vocal range” incorrectly. My bad. What I meant was that Freddie Mercury had more of a range in the styles of music he could sing. Let’s say Axl is a Picasso and may have capabilities for other genres, but he didn’t do them so we don’t know if he actually could do them. Probably could, but we don’t know if he could sing opera, jazz, blues, etc. Freddie, Bing, and others not only had the capability to sing in other genres, they did it and excelled at them. To me that blows away what Axl did. Just like Picasso is not the greatest artist in history, neither is Axl “the greatest male singer in history”. In my opinion, any artist that can excel at multiple styles of painting is better than an artist who only excels at one kind of painting. And…if octave range is an indicator of being the best (I think there is more to being a great singer than that), then I guess Mike Patton (6 octaves), Rob Halford (6 octaves and same genre as Axl), Dimash Kudaiergen (6 octaves), Adam Lopez (6 octaves) are all better. If you want to get real crazy, the Guiness Book of World Records has Tim Storms at 9 or 10 octaves. I don’t think they’re better than Axl though. I agree Axl was a good singer, but I can’t agree he was “the greatest male singer in history”.

    Guns N Roses just kind of had the perfect band and made the perfect album right off the bat that could never be topped.
    The Use Your Illusion albums were good and had many high points like November Rain, Estranged, and Don't Cry but they had a lot of filler too.
    I think they just hit so hard so fast and so early in their career and it was such a rock n roll whirlwind for young guys in their twenties that it was bound to implode.
    Glad G N R is back together touring with the guys sober or mostly sober but nothing will ever top this band in hard rock for how awesome their band was for that 5 or 6 year run in the late 80s and early 90s.

  • @sumonjamal1653
    @sumonjamal1653 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Guns N' Roses was once the biggest band in the world between 1987 and 1993... They were formed in Hollywood, California in the 80's and were an unlikely success cos the band was so volatile and unpredictable. "Sweet child O' mine" was a love song singer W. Axl Rose wrote to his then-gf Erin Everly (They had a very volatile relationship that ended by 1990).
    The band was formed by singer W. Axl Rose and guitarist Izzy Stradlin, who knew each other in school in Indiana, and left to become rock stars in the 80's L.A. rock scene. After the breakup of their band Hollywood Rose, they joined another local band L.A. Guns, featuring guitarist Tracii Guns... Axl Rose suggested to Tracii Guns that they change the name of the band to Guns N' Roses... but after a few months, Axl fired Tracii in 1986. He wanted guitarist Slash to play in the band... Slash was a UK-born guitarist, who moved to Cali (real name Saul Hudson) and had played briefly in Axl's band Hollywood Rose... Ironically, Tracii Guns found success w/ L.A. Guns after hiring a British singer Phil Lewis.
    By 1986, Guns N' Roses featured Axl Rose (vocals), Slash (lead guitar), Izzy Stradlin (rhythm guitar), Duff McKagan (bass) & Steven Adler (drums)... they were a great live band, but the music industry couldn't stand their destructive behavior offstage - drugs, alcohol, strippers, fights, arrests... They were trouble from day 1.But Geffen Records signed them, and they recorded a landmark debut album 'Appetite for destruction' that was released in 1987... a music video for the single 'Welcome to the jungle' exploded in popularity of MTV late in 1987. As Guns N' Roses toured the world in 1988, the album went to #1 on the US charts and would sell 18 million copies in the US alone. "Sweet Child O' mine" and 'Paradise city' were two more massive MTV hits.
    However, tragedy hit Guns in the summer of '88 when they played UK's Monsters of Rock festival at Donington... during their set, 2 fans were killed as 100K fans surged forward.
    The band released an EP 'GNR Lies' in 1988 that showed the acoustic folk side of Guns N' Roses and scored a huge hit w/ the ballad 'Patience'. But drug & alcohol abuse was destroying the band... they were set to record new music in 1990, but drummer Steven Adler could not play in the studio cos of his drug habit and declining health. He was fired and replaced by drummer Matt Sorum and keyboardist Dizzy Reed was added to the Guns line-up. by 1991.
    In 1991, Guns N' Roses announced they were releasing 2 new albums - 'Use your illusion' vol. I & II... they would each sell 7 million copies in the US. Unfortunately, singer Axl Rose's erratic behavior and tardiness on tour was causing problems... a show in St. Louis ended in a riot after Rose left the stage after attacking a concertgoer for taking pictures. After months of internal tensions, guitarist Izzy Stradlin left the band in late 1991. Guitarist Gilby Clarke joined the tour & appeared in most of the album's music videos... but Rose's behavior and the band's inability to stay sober on the road was destroying Guns N' Roses.
    A co-headlining show w/ Metallica ended in a riot in 1992 after the band played short of a full set (This was after Metallica had to end their set after their frontman James Hetfield was badly injured by pyro flames ) ... GNR ended their tour in 1993 and released a covers album 'The spaghetti incident?' that year... but the band's popularity had declined in the 90's decade.
    Guitarist Gilby Clarke was fired in 1994, and then disagreements between Axl Rose and Slash led to Rose firing both Slash and drummer Matt Sorum in 1996... bassist Duff McKagan left in 1997. Axl Rose tried to launch a new Guns N' Roses after 2000, but fans were not interested... Rose finally released a new Guns album 'Chinese democracy' in 2008 w/ all session players.
    After 2 decades of waiting, Guns N' Roses fans finally saw the band announce the reunion of Axl Rose, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagan in 2016 and announced the 'Not in this lifetime' tour... guitarist Izzy Stradlin and drummer Steven Adler from the original Guns were not invited. Guns hired guitarist Richard Fortus, drummer Frank Ferrer, and keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese to round out the band on tour. Despite the tours huge success, no new GNR music has emerged yet.

    Thing about Axl Rose is that he's one of the great modern poets:
    "She's got eyes of the bluest skies
    As if they thought of rain
    I'd hate to look into those eyes and see an ounce of pain
    Her hair reminds me of a warm safe place
    Where as a child I'd hide
    And pray for the thunder and the rain to quietly pass me by"

    Watched a few of your reactions to rock guitar solos, and love that you have the same visceral reaction to them that I get. Here are some suggestions for future reactions I think you might like. Except where noted, I suggest to start with the studio or music video versions.
    AC/DC - Touch Too Much. A different singer (the original) and a solo that keeps ratcheting it up to the next impossible level.
    Black Sabbath - Lonely is the Word. Two treats here: Ronnie James Dio’s unparalleled voice, and two great solos from Tony Iommi in one song.
    Deep Purple - Highway Star. One organ solo from the maestro, Jon Lord, and one iconic guitar solo from one of the true guitar greats: Ritchie Blackmore.
    Iron Maiden - Phantom of the Opera. You might find the first part very fast-paced and heavy, but you’ll be rewarded by the duelling guitar solos in the middle section.
    Judas Priest - Beyond the Realms of Death. Another double whammy with Rob Halford’s incredible range and belting, and not one, but two fabulous guitar solos.
    Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird (live). Long, long, long, series of continuous blues guitar breaks from 3 separate guitarists.
    Marillion - Incubus. Steve Rothery’s guitar solo here, the centrepiece of a classic crescendo, where the intensity keeps growing, shows why he’s the king of the “weeping” guitar.
    Rainbow - A Light in the Black. Ronnie James Dio, again, and Ritchie Blackmore, again. A brilliant combination. Many people would choose Stargazer first, but this one has more for the guitar lover.

    the legend/background behind this video is freaking bonkers lol. its also the guitar riff that started the breakup of the band because of how much Slash hated it.

    • @marinadiamondz
      @marinadiamondz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      slash only said that at first he didn't like the song because he was joking at the time of making that riff, he said that later he started to like it, but that was never the reason for their breakup

    There is a story of the ending of this song. As they were writing it they didn't know how to end it. Thus the "where do we go now" 😆 Don't know how true it is though.

    So you enjoyed the guitar Solo from one of the Greatest Guitarist of All Time he would be Slash . The lead singer who is the greatest front Man of All Time would be Axl Rose.

    • @vernhoke7730

      Slash is in the mix, but there are many who proceeded him that are a cut above, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck to name a few.
      As for the greatest front man that one is easy Freddie Mercury.

    You should react to the band Tool the song Lateralus. The song is based off the Fibonacci sequence, Tool is an American Progressive Hard Rock/Metal band known for deep intelligent lyrics, longer songs with odd time signatures. Their last record Fear Inoculum out sold Taylor Swift’s album that was out at the same time (August 2019)
