I use the USFL mod on my Steam Deck. This game is brilliant. I started my franchise in '87. Wish I could switch teams though in Dynasty/franchise mode.

I like the game for simming, but gameplay wise I'd say it's one of the worst football games I've ever played. Running the ball is a nightmare, and passing from the pocket is brutal, especially with a short QB. In Madden I have to make the line play as unforgiving as possible just to prevent me from running every play.
In Legend Bowl, even with a stacked o-line and a great running back, you'll average basically zero yards per carry, with one or two times where your RB will slip the blitz and go untouched for an 80 yard score.
Driving down the field in general doesn't seem to work to well, almost all of the scoring I see - for or against - is where there's a missed coverage and a fast player gets into the backfield. QBs in play or sim averaging ~50% completion rates, most games are punt fests. It just doesn't feel good at all.
The simplified free agent system means it's hard to stack your team, but constantly replenishing through the draft pretty much keeps your payroll steady year after year. I do like that to rebuild you need to fully tank to get high draft picks, because you can't just use your cap space to improve.
I like it, but I would only buy it on sale, same with College Bowl.
Apparently if College Bowl does well, there'll be a Legend Bowl 2 that will have an actual fully fleshed out franchise mode.

My run game is pretty solid as I’ve started franchises with 4 separate teams and each RB led the league in yards and touchdowns.
I noticed the difficulty has tightened up such that if you run the same sweep over and over the AI seems to plan against it.
All in all, game management and drive management seems really good if you mix things up.
You could lower the difficulty by a notch if you’re not getting anywhere. I started basic and moved up to veteran (and then the he one beyond vet) as my skill level improves…
I find my passing game is a lot of fun - I can have a game where I throw 4+ tds and 400 yds, then I can have a game where I’m under 150 and a couple picks. There’s enough realism to keep me entertained…

Schmidt is great, but the game engine makes running a nightmare. If I sim a season, he'll put up MVP numbers, but if I play or watch games, he'll average .3 yards per carry.
Also I couldn't do anything with Pierre Whitefield, since he can't get the ball over the o-line

@@atraxisdarkstar I used Whitfield one season and got to the playoffs but yeah he wasn’t great. The next year we drafted a rookie named Peyton templet who turned out to be a really good developing mobile QB. We also randomly got a super fast FB a few drafts later so since then it’s been a run-heavy offense that always keeps the D guessing.

@@bb-je3yz We made the playoffs year two but got blown out in the first round. I got a kid named Tommie Johnson with a cannon arm and he took us 10-6 and won a Legend Bowl his rookie season.
I don't know how to get running to work though, because every game my RB will run 20 times for like 8 total yards, then have one 75 yard touchdown run where nobody touched him, and that's the only way I have even remotely realistic running stats.
The only thing that seems to work is exploiting unbalanced formations.
If I can overload one side and they're all spread out, I can hit open passes and make decent outside runs.
