I’m so sorry for your loss. Please give your dad a big hug for me. This song reminds me of my sister Monica who passed. It was one of her favorite covers of mine. And she is also a mom. Please hang in there and give it time. But you’re so right, you’re not alone.
Mike Massé Mike thank you. I remember Monica very well from your Superman video. My mom's passing has taught me is that until someone goes through it themselves, they can't truly be as empathetic as they think they are. Your intro tribute to Monica tugged at my heart back then, but it has new meaning now. Same with let It Be. BTW I too am a recovering attorney / guitarist/ keyboardist/ vocalist. My bff in law school was/is a drummer and while our classmates dreamt of pleading a case in the SCOTUS, we dreamt of starting a band together - "Men's Rea" (w/ the apostrophe). He is actually the one that turned me on to you (Africa). Since then, you've inspired me to the point that when I'm learning a song that you also cover, I emulate you rather than the original artist. Prayers of peace, love, happiness and prosperity to you and your family. Same for anyone reading this who has lost someone.
I've tried singing this song while playing so many times. The strumming pattern does not naturally fall in with the singing. This is great.
And here I find myself coming back to your covers again and again. You have a true talent to make us feel through your performances. Thank you!!!

I started as a drummer in 1984. But as I got older I realized I can't drag a drum set to every garage 3 am music jam set drinking beer and singing at the top of my lungs (which yes I can sing) so acoustic guitar became a mission. My teacher has long passed away from this world but his words ring true daily... " a cased guitar never gets played" and practice at least 30 minutes a day. Only request I have is Norwegian wood. And that can happen only when he gains enough confidence in his own original songwriting. And for THAT, his "fans" need to stop treating him as just a cover artist or some sort of human jukebox, and realize his has songwriting talent.
Christomir Rackov No problems that I can see with his covers (he's amazing at them), his confidence (covers are just the area he's chosen so far, and that's as valid a choice as any), or his fans loving the work he has put out there to date (we recognize excellence when we hear it).
I'm sure all of us fans would love any original material from him, should he choose to publish it. Mike's got more sheer talent in his little finger than many so-called artists out there today, as we all know and appreciate.
But I do take your basic point about Kimmel, and if originals will get him on a bigger stage, I for one am all for it.
JusBidniss BTW, I never said I saw any problems with his covers. ;) Mike is a great *cover* artist - among the best out there. I'm just saying he can be much more than that if he just gives it a shot and shares his music.

A lot of times the band instruments drown out the message the song lyrics convey... I prefer acoustic versions on a lot of music.
