    Hey Ollie! Thanks for the videos. I just got my KO and am having trouble loading 808 sounds from my GarageBand. I see your point about loading the sample in two bars so you get 1/8 notes. Question is, do you mean any eight consistent strikes, or should you play the sample kit/ snare / hat at the same BPM that the KO is set to? Thx!

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 2 bar technique would be relative to a drum break or melody. For individual drum notes, you can sample them in individually. Making the bpms match is a good idea, but for drum hits, that doesn’t matter since the hits themselves won’t be time stretched, most likely.

    • @hugefood
      @hugefood 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OllieLoops Hey Ollie! I did the 2 measure thing and it worked! My idea was to put on 808 sound per drum track (kick on 9, snare on 10, hat on 11 etc.) and it gave a me a good range of sounds within each bank. Is that how you do it or did I miss something? Thx for the help!!

    • @OllieLoops

      1. Take the batteries out.
      2. Hold Pattern and Write at the same time.

      4. Release Pattern and Write.

    is there a max sample length for the drum sample? how bout a melodic sample? I cant find this info anywhere!!

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, thanks for your comment. If I recall correctly, the sample time limit is based on the total available sample time available to the unit. The KO has 40 seconds of max sample time, that's including the stock samples. If we delete the stock samples, you can get the full 40 seconds. If I recall, with the stock samples loaded, you get about 24 seconds of available time. This was documented one of my KO videos. With that, I believe you could use the entire available sample time for a single sample. Some TE devices have limited sample time however. With the OP1 and OPZ, I believe the limit is 12 seconds in the drum section. I hope that helps.

    • @vforvillain77
      @vforvillain77 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OllieLoops yes it helps, thanks. I wish you knew for sure that you remembered it correctly. I have an OP-1 here and that limit makes it real difficult to get the parts i need into one set for chops, so i was hoping for better in the PO33. I wish these things just allowed you to sample whatever you want into each individual slot. Thanks again

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@vforvillain77 Hey, I just confirmed what I said in the last comment. A sample's length is only limited by the available sample time remaining on the device. 40 seconds total, and about 24 seconds with stock samples. Also, check out my KO copy and paste secrets video for a trick to pasting sampling into the individual drum slots. I hope that helps!

      @@OllieLoops like to get the drums sample perfect because everytime I try it comes out bad

    • @WesNavy
      @WesNavy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was asking how long do you usually record to get the drum sample sound perfectly

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can record as long as you have recording time available. To get better sample slices, you should consider this: there are 16 sound slots in the drum section. Your sample will thus be divided by 16 automatically. So, if you sample 1 bar, you get 16th notes of that sample, if you sample 2 bars, you get 8th notes. I recommend sampling 2 bars of a beat because many beats have 8th notes and it will slice better. Also, you will likely always need to adjust the start and end of your samples because the automatic slices are rarely perfect. Getting good at setting the start and end of samples is critical to getting them to sound like individual notes. Ok. I hope that helps.

    If you sample four kicks, four snares, four hats, and four rides, and then you program them into a drum pattern - haven’t you used up all of your samples? I thought you could only play four samples simultaneously on the PO? How can you do this, and then also add a bass, melody, and main riff?

    • @Idrisscratch
      @Idrisscratch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, in the drum section you have 8 banks of 16 slots = 128 samples. What is limited to four is the polyphony, the maximum number of sounds that can be played on the same time :)

    • @F_letc.h
      @F_letc.h 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Idrisscratch that’s what confuses me. If you can only play four samples simultaneously, how can you have so many drums? If I have a bass sample, a main riff sample, and an acapella sample, that only leaves room for one more sample. I wouldn’t be able to also program a drum pattern, would I?

    • @OllieLoops
      @OllieLoops  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Keep in mind that the polyphony is per step, not as a whole. So you can have some complexity to the pattern if you don’t place more than 4 sounds triggering on a single step.

      Thanks Toma. I appreciate the feedback. Its a bit of a struggle to find the perfect balance of length, delivery and audience retention. If you could see the statistics on audience retention, you might get a sense for why keeping videos short is important. But I hear your point. I make these videos for people like you to share information and help people. Let me know if you have a specific question or video that could help you. Thanks.
