    Brandy is adopted! Here she is in her new home: theorphanpet.com/german-shephe...
    On September 26, in an industrial area of a suburb of Athens, Greece, a dog was found tied to a fence. It was probably a "targeted" abandonment, since SCARS keeps some of its rescue dogs nearby. Next to her was a bucket of water and in the fence next to her was a note: “can’t take care of her, I am sorry. She is very nice”. We named her Brandy. She was very stressed and confused. Her blood tests results showed kidney failure, and she went through a long treatment for it. She is now healthy, neutered and ready for her forever home. The funny thing is that she now lives next to the place where she was abandoned, along with some other rescue dogs - that's why you can see her running free near the place where she was tied. She is for adoption by SCARS. If you wish to adopt her, please contact me at: support@theorphanpet.com or message the SCARS Facebook page.

    Leaving a young dog tied up in the middle of nowhere is like abandoning a five year old human child to learn to survive on its own. Do people not realize that animals are thinking, feeling beings just like us? I hope this beautiful girl finds the forever home she so deserves!

      Anna Harlow: No, it is *not* like leaving a 5-year-old human child.

    • @nandanaramesh509
      @nandanaramesh509 7 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      John MacTroll You're right. It's not like abandoning a child to live on its own. This dog had to go through worse. It was *tied*. It couldn't have run away to find a better way and survive, either. That is how cruel this person was being while _abandoning_ this dog. He or she _tied_ it up. What if no one ever came to help it? What if no one gave a damn about this dog tied up there?
      So this dog is more pain than you think it is.

      John MacTroll Right. The child can wander. The poor tied up dog can't. Where can it go for help?

    • @chainsawkitten3766

      Nandana Ramesh I think the act of tying the dog up might have been out of concern for the dog, not an act of cruelty. If he'd just let the dog loose, it would have run off and would not have been found by the rescue. The dog was tied up right near a rescue facility. It's owner intended the rescue people to find her. Cowardly and irresponsible, maybe, depending on the true reasons they had for abandoning the dog....but, at least they gave it a chance of being found by the right people. It worked out for this dog, and that is what is important.

      Chainsaw Kitten ~ Anything could have happened to the dog which was left helpless to defend herself. The better thing to do is take her to a shelter and surrender her there.

    "Hello. My name is Rufus. I am a good dog but I need a new home." This was written on a coin wrapper that had a yellow cord through it, tied around the dogs neck. The dog was the size of a bear. Wandering deliriously when I found him. When I called the shelter, I was told they had received calls about the dog from an area miles from my home. He was a great pet and good dog indeed that I had for 8 years.

      J. Pantsachiv...thank you. What a lovely compliment to wake up to! I just can't understand how someone could have abandoned such a big dog. Did they really think it could forage for food and water? "No kill" shelters didn't exist at the time and I thought it would be a hard dog to place. Thankfully, I could take him in.

      rosa price Thank u again.R there 'No kill' shelters now ? Here ,in India ,we see many strays -dogs & cats.ppl now feed them.we keep water in clean bowls on street & outside our bungalows fr them .yes,we don't have snow-fall in many states of India.And so strays r o.k..but Shelters in USA,Europe kill sheltered dogs,cats if they don't get an adopter is horrible.Ppl like u r angels then.

      rosa price nice story! Not all people who have to abandon their animals are evil. I know someone who adopted a dog found in Philadelphia, tied to a tree with a rosary around his neck and a heartbreaking note telling the dog's story, it belonged to a young boy whose mother made him dump it. Not that I would ever recommend doing it this way, because one never knows what kind of person might come along and find the animal.

    • @stephaniejanong4146
      @stephaniejanong4146 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Olivia Jobs the rescuers had to get the dog in on a car ride just to take the dog to the shelter. If the previous owner couldn't even take care of the dog, you think he/she could own a car? A motorcycle or a bike wouldn't help much and it would take him a long time just to reach the nearest shelter.
      Thus the dog would be taken down in a matter of weeks, probably at most one month if he/she had taken it to the shelter.
      And the owner didn't leave it to die. He/she left some water and tied it to a pole in a relatively busy street, not in the middle of nowhere.

      Even if they don't have a car they could've called shelter and shelter to come and pick her up. Im sure they would do it. Most shelters do it. When my neighbour died and there was no one left to take care of the dog we called shelter to come and pick it up and they did.

    • @NinkaRose
      @NinkaRose 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't really know of any shelter that would come and take a dog from you if you can't take care of it. I adopted a dog that had horrible separation anxiety and no one told me about it (they didn't know either so i don't blame them, but I asked them if they could come get the dog and take it back so it could get a home with someone who could deal with it. My husband wasn't home and we don't have two cars and they told me no they cannot do that. Unless it has something to do with animal control such as abuse they typically will not come to your house to get an animal.

      "Man's Best Friend"
      God summoned a beast from the fields and He said:
      "Behold man, created in my image.
      You shall protect him in the wilderness,
      shepherd his flocks, watch over his children, and
      accompany him wherever he may go, even in harm's way.
      You shall be his companion, his ally, his slave.
      I will endow you with these traits uncommon to any other beast:
      Faithfulness, Devotion, and Understanding, surpassing those of man
      himself.
      Lest it impair your courage, you shall never foresee your death.
      Lest it impair your loyalty, you shall be blind to the faults of man.
      Lest it impair your understanding, you are denied the power
      of words; your eyes shall convey the truth of your heart.
      Lest man's attachment to you grows too great, the span of
      your life shall be brief.
      Walk by his side, sleep in his doorway, forage for him,
      ward off his enemies, carry his burdens, share his
      afflictions, love him, and comfort him.
      And in return for these things, man will fulfill your needs and
      wants, which shall be only sustenance, shelter,
      and affection.
      So be silent and be a friend to man.
      Guide him through the perils along the way to the land that
      I have promised him.
      This shall be your destiny and your immortality".
      So spoke the Lord.

      I actually HAVE done exactly this.. and while we were both living in my car I adopted another small dog who needed some shelter and love. That little dog is now the beloved therapy pet for my mother, and my dog and I have a home again - but I literally gave him my own food and warmth.
      There is no excuse for what this person did. I would walk literally MILES just to get to a free wi-fi hotspot, library or payphone to contact rescue and foster organizations, shelters and put up adds for rehoming if I absolutely had no choice. I would go through absolutely every avenue, and as we saw in this video _there are clearly groups and peoples that can be contacted to take dogs who need homes and foster/rehome/help._ A short google search could have saved this animal from suffering...
      And let's not forget *_the dog was TIED TO THE FENCE BY THE NECK AND OBVIOUSLY COULD NOT GET FREE._* Anyone trying to say 'but maybe they really just couldn't take care of it and were poor_ ought to realize this dog was left like that, and not just set loose to find its own shelter and food/water, free of entanglements that may choke/harm it (not that this is a valid solution either, domesticated dogs do not have the same instincts a wild animal might and suffer greatly when 'dumped'). Despicable, no amount of 'I'm sorry' erases that.

      RedVexeD There is no excuse for how they gave her to the shelter, but the owner put her right next to the shelter to be found, and tied her up so the rescuers found her. If she was running free then her risk of dying could have been through the roof.
      You talk about electronic devices that the owner may not of had. Not everyone has money and luxuries.

      This happens literally everywhere. At least that person left a container of water and the video says Greece is a no-kill country. But then is says they do kill strays which was confusing. I was in the Philippines and they hit strays on the head with a machete. They can spread disease out there so they kill them on the spot or deliberately hit them with a car.

      The Orphan Pet I think the word can be used to describe both male and female fixing, but it's more common in the USA to use neuter for males, and spayed for females. Too many damn words in the English language!

    • @ribitt06
      @ribitt06 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Orphan Pet like Susan said neuter is gender neutral. Most people only use Spay/spayed/to spay on females. But regardless of which you use most English speaking people know what you mean. So you did awesome as always - when in doubt use neuter. Keep up the fight sweetheart. I always wonder which is more "humane" - a no kill country or state or a kill state. I live in Arizona USA and so many animals are killed here because of being stays/abandoned/any other assinine reason but I know not all can be saved. To live the life of a stay has to be worse, no constant food, water, shelter, no love and attention, fear of most things, the rescuers knowing they can't save that dog too. I think no kill is a good "motto" if the government helped, otherwise it's a cruel death sentence.

    When corrupt governmetns banktrupt the country it's not just the people that suffer... btw, by government i don't just mean politicians, but everyone who cluster around the ever growing government for sustenance ... the bigger the goverment grows the poorer the country itself gets and more and more people end up sinking into poverty ... :(

    • @lekkki1
      @lekkki1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Sadly, it seems to be the way for so many countries. My understanding is that the corrupt politicians, (corrupt government) the refusal of so many citizens to pay their taxes, and the overburden of immigrant refugees take away all of the monies that might otherwise be available for animals in desperate need of help and assistance.
      As a society, we are judged by our ability (or inability) to take care of the weakest of our populace, the elderly who are poor, animals, young people who are poor or addicted to one substance or another, (and adults) etc ad nauseum.
      Time to re-order our priorities, people. All of us. It's not just Greece.

    Was that contempt that I noticed when this woman throw away the note and the dog's collar? Contempt, I am assuming, for the previous owner to leave her dog for someone to rescue? If so, it is a shame that she does not show the same compassion for other people as she does for dogs. The person who owned her previously obviously just could not keep her, and felt that she would be better off with someone who could look after her. He/she deliberately placed the dog, with water, where she would soon be found. This is a very different scenario from animals being dumped out in the middle of nowhere and left for dead. Sometimes people, through no fault of their own, just can not keep their beloved pet, and have to give it up for the better of the animal. Maybe this person had lost all their belongings and had no money for food or vet bills. Maybe they were very ill and unable to look after themselves let alone their dog. Whatever the reason, it was obviously a reluctant act by a caring person. We should all just stop second guessing other people, take things as they come, and do the best that we can with what we find.

    • @OrphanPetGreece
      @OrphanPetGreece  7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      ali xena Maybe.. but in Greece there are so many dogs abandoned this way every single day, that's it's impossible that there are so many desperate people.

      The Orphan Pet
      There will always be people who, through no fault of their own, find themselves not able to provide for their pet. Please save your disgust for those cruel people who deliberately mistreat and hurt animals and remember the saying "There but for the grace of God go I..."

    • @OrphanPetGreece
      @OrphanPetGreece  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      ali xena He was not one of the few. There are dozens of him that do it every day, you just saw one video of one abandonment, that doesn't make it a unique case. Besides, she was neglected and she stuffed from kidney failure when we found her, probably from poor nutrition. So before abandoning her he almost killed her too.

    • @alixena9340
      @alixena9340 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      You still can't see the point, can you? The owner gave up the dog BECAUSE they couldn't care for her, and they loved her, and they wanted her to go to a better home. I hope that life does not leave you homeless and jobless and old and sick and frail and handicapped, because then you would not be able to look after all the dogs that you have rescued. Anyway, thank you for your efforts to save the dogs of Athens. I know there are other people there trying to do the same for the less fortunate people of Athens.

      The note was pretty much bullshit that is why she threw it away. You dont just tie your dog in a pole, make it someone elses problem and then leave a shitty note so you have a clear conscience. What if nobody came to his rescue? If you cant handle a dog, dont get one, simple as that.

    I am so heartbroken that things like this can happen in Greece or any country. Why can't everyone be happy and have a happy home with love to return to? I pray that the people and animals of Greece will one day live a happy life with peace and harmony. Hope this beautiful dog will find a happy and loving home as she deserves.

      I don’t think the note was supposed to “notify” anybody that the dog was there lol nor did anybody have that in mind when doing so.

    In a country that is so abused by the EU many people suffer and got not enough food, no health care, no future. But it is always possible, no matter how poor you are, to find someone for a dog like this. Poverty explains a lot but is no excuse for everything. Here in Germany are a lot of poor people to (I know! Not in same severity as in Greece! I dont want to compare it!). They live on the streets and beg for food and the most of them got dogs! They live with their dogs on the street, they share their food and their blankets. So it is possible but it depends on the current status animals got in their respective countries. In Greece, Spain, Romenia, Bulgaria and many other southern countries animals have no value. It depends on how you teach children in decades and change the perspective to all living creatures. If you teach them that animals are more than food, that they have feelings, soul and mind no one will accept any longer the suffering of any of them. To safe the animals we need to change the toughts of men. (Sorry for my not very advanced english but I think you all know what I want to say.)

      Frank Wienands but why do people even need to be told that animals have feelings? don't people have eyes to see by themselves and brains to think???? and, don't people have a heart????

    Why not just bring the dog to a shelter to begin with is beyond me.

      A lot of people are ashamed when giving up their animals. I think if you have a very good reason, such as not being able to afford caring for them, then you shouldn't be ashamed because all you are doing is trying to give them a home that can better cater to their needs. Makes me feel like this person maybe had a stupid reason for giving up the dog and didn't want to be criticized, like maybe they're one of those idiots who gets the dog as a puppy and doesn't want them anymore when they're big. Either way, you're right; always bring an animal you must give up to the shelter where they can immediately be taken care of.

      I payed for a puppy, then I moved when it was 2 and had to give him up. I gave him away free to a good home.

      pharlap9 Because 9/10 animals that get taken to shelters get put down because there isnt enough room at the shelter.

      @iclaimthisname9767 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Shelters can be full ya know?
      Also; If you bring an animal to a shelter (at least where I live) you have to pay a fee so that they can take care of the animals. The owner of this dog was probably very poor and not able to pay that fee.
      This owner obviously cared about their dog, and shouldn't be ridiculed like this.
