JJ, as a biochemist, you know that every food breaks down into glucose (sugar). 100% of the volume of carbs in our diet, break down into glucose over a 2 hour period and the glucose that is not used in that 2 hour period is stored as fat. 50% of the volume of protein in our diet, break down to glucose over a 4-5 hour period and the excess not burnt up in that period of time is stored as fat. 10% of the volume of fat you consume breaks down to glucose over a 10-12 hour period and the excess not burnt up is stored as fat. Everything we consume becomes glucose (sugar) That is what our body needs for energy and our brain uses to think. We cannot survive with out glucose. It is our fuel. When you balance your food with what your body/brain can burn, you naturally return to your correct healthy BMI.
Rob K so. Is calorie is just calorie? If we eat more than what we use, it will stored in fat. But since there is a difference of turning to fuels, if we combine this macro, then we have a fuel to use quickly and also filling full for a while. Is this what you are saying?
A plant based diet is the way to go. It is what we are meant to eat and it is the healthiest diet for us. The Mayo Clinic also said soy is healthy and healthier than most other proteins.
Sam G well, did I say eat a kilo of natto or miso every time ?You eat them normally ,like always has been done traditionally!Natto normally comes in the small boxes(thats how they eat it in Japan),and miso you get like a half to one teaspoon per meal (I dont think you can eat more anyways-as its very salty and concentrated taste) ;) Traditional soy souse also-you use just a bit ;) Tempeh you eat few slices...and so on.
So yeah, I think the POINT isn't what you did or didn't mean about how tofu is used..but more what but the current usage of these traditional foods is like...which is massive over consumption, not how they were intended. Which has been shown to be problematic in a variety of ways. But sounds like you're the expert so let's leave it at that!
Sam G tofu is not optimal.Im talking about the fermented stuff what is very powerful and in fact a superfood ;) Miso soup saved Nagasaki survivers(in a hospital 2km from the epicenter of the nuclear blast)from radiation desease.Or its clinically proven better bone structure and density in old ppl in Japan in provinces where they consume more natto for example.Miso has been one of the most used and favoute foods for the road of the samurais etc... I can say much more but here is not the place for that.
Muncho Im sure you're right..the point seems to keep being missed. You and I both agree traditional use is great. She is pointing out we no longer use these foods traditionally. Your initial point was "but these foods are fine" and mine was "yes but I think she is talking about the way we use them now"..that's all.
I appreciate information that helps us grow but honestly listening to this feels overwhelming. I live in an area that doesn't have food choices that support a healthy lifestyle and I would love to hear from someone that can speak on how to start such a process in a small town like mine.
i would suggest mcDougal, starch solution, or potato strong on youtube and dr greger nutriitionfacts.org. yes it is overwhelming but think cheap and simple, yes and tasty you won't want to do it, ie porridge, rice, veg, potatoes, forget 'health foods' or packaged foods. I like to watch happy healthy vegan, when you eat natural foods rather than processed you will notice the difference.
Crystal Scretching you can find fruits and vegetables everywhere right? so start eating more of them, more of the vegi if they are not organic wash them well. you can buy online organic rice, beans, lentils Chia seeds other seeds and nuts, organic almond or coconut milk, organic good oils and more this will be a good investment in your health. I can find anything I need in my local health food store however my food bill decreased since I started eating that way and I am less hungry so I eat less too.
TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH GOING NON VEGAN!!! I've been vegan for almost 3 years and I eat mostly unprocessed foods, I look and feel better than ever. I am 46 and have no medications at all and I don't use any supplements I only eat natural grown foods, mostly fresh fruits and veggies and lots of grain. Son, Husband and I eat the same and we are so healthy. Husband and I exercise everyday and we go hard core. Husband is fully vegan now and he looks amazing, he changed his ugly appearance in less than 6 months by doing HEALTHY VEGAN. And yes, we don't need to use SOY abut there are so much foods out there we combine daily and we certainly enjoy so much our meals!!! GO HEALTHY VEGAN :) We have muscles and don't count how much calories, carbs, proteins we eat as long as we eat vegan we are just amazingly fine.
Elizabeth Norman we vegan and raw vegan too, my husband half vegan and non vegan but he is healthy, but I try to persuade him to fully vegan and he cycling everyday cos he retired from fire department he is 60 years land I am 58 years old , we depend on vegan to stay healthy , yes go vegan and raw vegan
Elizabeth Norman I went vegan too, and eat tons of fruit because I'm 80 to 90% raw. I eat sprouted grain bread and no soy! I am thin and look 10 years younger! After I started eating lots of fruit in it's natural raw form. My skin started to glow! You feel crappy at fist because your cleans out all the toxins! Fruit does not make you fat!
I agree with you but soy is so GMO now I don't eat that. And also heard from dr Mcdougle that carbs don't make you fat as long as they are whole foods.
Yes! I have been plant based for a year now and I have never felt better. Also I eat tofu (which she says not to) and it is commonly known as one of the most healthy foods you can eat.
There is a difference between tropical fruit and berries. Tropical fruit is is extremely high on the glycemic scale. And Berries are low on the glycemic scale, ie: strawberry, blueberry, blackberry, etc... If you are consuming berries at the rate you are burning glucose (exercise) you will not get fat, and your body will return to a normal healthy BMI. Fact: Potatoes and rice are higher on the glycemic index than berries. So, I disagree with cutting out all fruit. I avoid the tropical fruit and consume the berries to be healthy. and It works.
Vishen: Get Dr Micheal Greger from nutrition facts on A-Fest! I'd love to see JJ Virgin tell him vegan diets don't make sense from a health perspective.
Ryan McGarrity agree 100%, I'd trust Dr Greger over JJ Virgin any day. He has the credentials and has looked at the studies. This lady is merely giving her opinion based on her own observations. Plant based is the way forward. This lady wouldn't stand a chance in a discussion with Dr Greger. Would love to see that!
My take on diet is. I fast for 36 hours every week, while fasting I drink only 'water'. then after fasting, I start with 'water melon' and a few' blueberries', then I go back to my vegan food for the rest of the week. there is no need to diet what so ever. In my opinion. Hope this helps some one!!! Greetings to all.

Marcus Lobenstein each glass of alcohol, wine you are taking kills your liver cells so I guess what she system it is OK to kill few liver cells at a time. does she loves her drink more then she loves her liver?
Lizanne alcohol also kills liver cells each time you drink alcohol, a glass or a bottle. maybe she come across as she know what she is talking about, not to me.
a lot of the things she says are things I live by, but to me when someone claims things are "poison' and talks in terms of 'good and bad' like its the ultimate truth, they kind of lost me. We just don't know for sure, and I think its good to always remind ourselves that. As she said, one day they declare this food to be bad than is it bad not eating it, so who knows if we are right at this point? We just have to experiment with ourselves and indeed listen to our bod., what works for one doesn't have to work for another, every body is different. She drops these knowledgebombs, which is good for the majority as the majority eats like crap and don't pay attention to what they are eating and how, they just stuff it in. So all and all: I do like these kinds of interviews, but just be carefull claiming that you know it all, as things (and science!) can always change.
I work in the food industry and all I drink is Soda Water, they think I am crazy, they gain weight, I don't. They are picking this up, I eat the same as them, I just like soda water.
I started drinking my coffee black probably 8 years ago when I first got JJ 's book. And now I only like it black, I can't drink coffee with milk and sugar in it any longer doesn't taste good to me.
I dont know seems like another person trying to sell books. I mean thats fine. Just tired of being jerked around with different diet idea. Clearly there is no consensus on what I should eat. I see healthy lifetime fruitarians and raw food vegans. It seems like if you eat out of your garden or raw you don't get fat. If you eat out of the supermarket your screwed. Most of us of course shop at the market and so we are mostly fat. I'm around 120 pounds and I spent most my life eating buckets of candy and pizza's . I do not think thats healthy as my body isn't happy about it anymore, maybe it wasn't ever. Seriously find some truth and stop spinning this stuff forever.
dim jivundus I agree. I dont what to do. Im 150 lbs.. over wt. vegan or paleo?? not sure what I want to do. Everyone talks shit about all choices. Drives me crazy. I know I just need to choose one. lol. o
Justyna Miziołek she said not to consume sugar substitute and you need to change your taste buds so you will not need anything that test sweet, it is possible to achieve I did it.
She actually said it was okay which shocked me. I avoid all substitutes, even stevia because i don't like it. If I have to have sugar, I use a little sugar.

I don't really like how much he gets involved and doesn't let her talk. Isn't it her keynote?!
Stupid of the host to cut down JJ short while she was answering about vegan diet....
u guys so fun n loads of healthy info
Great video. Thanks! Though Lots of marketing of companies here...
A plant based diet is the way to go. It is what we are meant to eat and it is the healthiest diet for us. The Mayo Clinic also said soy is healthy and healthier than most other proteins.
traditional fermented organic soy products have been consumed for centuries and are completely ok .
thnk its more about the amount you eat- in traditional cultures its more of a side/topping, not a replacement for steak in a burger.

Tinned fish frozen veg and since the good meat is expensive lentils and other beans dried or tinned in water.

haha, same!
Sallie Bean I see resemblance to Jenna Elfman too.
That *Vegan is not healthy* comment was false, but beyound this I fully agree with everything she said.
I had my thyroid removed and when I go on a low carb diet, I have heart palpitations really bad. Do you have any input on that?

Does she have an opinion on those who have the APO E 4 gene? High fat diets are not beneficial for those 4 genotypes...fat is inflammatory.

Ben and Jerrys has a plant based ice cream now. Don't think its super healthy but it is better for you than cows milk ice cream.
I work in the food industry and all I drink is Soda Water, they think I am crazy, they gain weight, I don't. They are picking this up, I eat the same as them, I just like soda water.

Whole fruit has tons and tons of fiber. Fruit should always be eaten alone.
You know what. All of your comments could have been left unsaid. I like to go by an old saying, if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all! What have you done today to try to help others?
you can eat clean but if you are sick and you don't feel apitite than is difficult to eat
I'm sure that bloke means 5million years ago... and not 7000. Man was well evolved millions of years before then.
While some of this information is helpful, her overall tone is sanctimonious and uptight which is off putting.
Can you move in for a while please I need a lot of help

this lady looks like that bird from always sunny
I don't get. Everything seems like a poison. The next video I watch will tell me the opposite of what this lady is saying.
Justin Joseph Eat everything organic and in moderation. This simple instruction will never be contradicted by any "food expert".
Moderation differs from food to food and from person to person.
Justin Joseph everyone across the border agree sugar is a poison so you can start with cutting sugar
No there all pretty much saying the same thing now
She does not speak well with others, she just wants to listen to the sound of her own voice :(
Xylatol IS sugar!
Dairy’s a poison but alcohol is fine ...
Talk to durianrider.. he eats lots of sugar, and lots of carbes and fruit and he's skinny as fuck..
judahtribe judahtribe skinny does not mean healthy
They did not say what to eat!!!!!!
It's all opinion...JJ Virgin does not have the credentials to talk about diet. I'd trust the likes of Dr Greger, Dr Esselstyn and Dr Colin T Campbell who advocate for a plant based diet. And they certainly don't tell you to avoid fruit!

She's a doctorate and she didn't say don't eat fruit, she said 1-2/day. That's certainly not saying NO FRUIT.
Have you looked at her credentials?!
Can you believe some of these comments?!
Stop eating breakfast.
Why are fruitatian soooooooooooooooooooooooo skinny eating al this fruit? it is not making them to stort fat at all.
Fruit is not sugar. Stop this!
We are Omnivores, we are designed to eat both meat and vegetables, I gave up sugar when I was a child, I Hate salt, gave that up as a child, Be aware that the Food Complex is your major influencer,
Sorry but that’s just not true. Humans are designed to be herbivores or vegetarians. Our bodies are not meant to eat flesh.
For as healthy as she is, or suppose to be, JJ's hair looks terrible!
She could use a heat-pack/hair mask-LOL
Why would you say this. I just don't know what's wrong with the human race these days!
