Looking for a way to keep your bedroom or dorm room smelling nice this school year? Well, you're in luck because today Jamie is showing you how to make a homemade gel air freshener. Say bye-bye to stinky smells and hello to an awesome craft!
Supplies:
Essential Oil
A Pot & Pot Holders
1 Box Unflavored Gelatin
A Wooden Spoon
Food Coloring
Salt
Heat Resistant Container(s)
Steps:
Step 1: Preset Essential Oil & Food Coloring
Step 2: Create Gel Mixture
Step 3: Pour Gel Into Container
Step 4: Let Gel Set

Tip: You can take the gel out, melt it down again and add more essential oil.

Cortney Bennett I was wondering that too (and glad we can). I don't know if it's just me, but I don't think essential oils smell all that great...at least none that I would want to wear as perfume or to smell in my house all day.

I made a blackberry + Ylang Ylang as me n my husband are celebrating our 10th year wedding anniversary on 10th February 2017 & it smells so amazing. Got my fragrance where I get all my fragrances from www.eroma.com.au they also ship overseas :)
Lavender Vanilla is nice
Lemongrass is great especially outside on outdoor setting table - helps keeps the mosquitoes away

For those who are vegan, you can try Kosher gelatins:Lieber's, Carmel's, KoJel's, and Hain Superfruits unflavored gelatins. A quick Google search showed me an ingredient called "Agar-Agar," which is derived from algae/seaweed. Just some options for y'all!! :D

Can we melt the gel which scent faded AND once we melt it, add more scent and let it set? that way we don't have to make new ones all the time

DON'T USE OLIVE OIL. It's odorless, so it doesn't serve a point in your air freshener!

if making one batch, making it a little stronger scented and separating it into smaller containers for multiple rooms instead of one batch for one room it would be cheaper... not only that the ingredients like the essential oils and dye go along way so will last a long time... the only thing you would need to rebuy would be the gelatin which is cheaper then the store bought air freshener per room. Another thing about this is you won't have the extra chemicals going into the air like the store bought ones.
There's a youtuber called howtobyjordan that does lots of DIY beauty stuff, and she has one that's making an EOS style lip-balm in an easter egg. Is that sort of what you were thinking?
In America we don't have Kinder Egg surprises, and I think Jamie is American, so I don't think she could do that specifically.
Wouldnt it be way cheeper jst buying an airfreshner. like essential oil for almost $6 and also having to purchase the other ingrediants. You can buy an airfreshner for less than $10 and will last up to 2 months

no! What a waste! Add the fragrance once the liquid has cooled otherwise all that will happen is that the heat will cause the fragrance to evaporate!!

Hey gurl! Please answer back... When I mixed the gelatin and the cup of water, my gelatin quickly formed a strange shape! I couldnt mix it when I added the other cup of water...😞 why?
Did you add salt? The salt helps
heyitsme Use heat resistant container, then add your essential oil & food coloring, Set aside. 2. If need be read instructions on Knox gelatin box. Otherwise boil water, add gelatin and salt. STIR until gelatin is DISSOLVED then ADD another cup of cold water to gelatin mixture. 3. Lastly. Add gelatin mixture to heat resistant container and let set over night. Done

I think that flavored gelatin wouldn't go so well. It would attract bugs, thanks to the sugar.

Not sure why my freshener started liquidating when I kept it in the car. Is it because I used powdered food color or is it related to salt or water quantity? (Salt content was a bit more)

omg! When I was little, my grandmother used to have those gel candles all over the place. We found them really fascinating for some reason and used to poke them until they were mauled. I guess that's why she stopped buying them! haha

hi just wondering if you don't have any assential oil (I forgot how to spell assential) could you use any actual fruit?
You could probably use the peel of lemons and other citrus fruits, but don't use the fruit alone because it will become moldy very quickly. Also, the smell will not be as strong.
