We have a similar issue here in UK, the prison system is definitely at capacity, so we're releasing more people who probably should stay inside. Immigration is a part of the issue, it ultimately adds more people into the equation, but there is real issues with prison spaces, prison quality, sentencing, prison services, and police actually finding criminals. The Tory government probably wants people to blame immigrant criminals rather than them for the issues they've done little to prevent turning into crisis. The opposition isn't likely to do much better or to address the root causes, but when the government isn't effective the quality of the opposition seems to not matter.

There was little to no help or support, 0 actual guidance through the issues and problems from being groomed, there was no evaluation of the childs mental state or the red flags of issues that will arrise later in their life, the legal system just treats it like its some trade between the lawyers and judges and if the monsters are seen as just some normal guy who hasnt commited any other crimes they are allowed to destroy a childs life for the small price of a few years.
And i dont even know what its like in prisons, was there any rehabilitation or therapy was there any attempt to teach this sick fk the damage he actually caused, or is he just locked in a room with a tv and some shitty food for 3 years, because 3 months after the dude got out he preyed on another child. So its obviously not a deterrent. 3, and then 5 years locked away for destroying childhoods.
There is so little attention to the real issues that destroy people before they even have a chance to live.

That rant at the end there by Mark Dreyfus about doing the right thing regarding the rule of law etc is a bit much given what has been going down under his watch with David McBride.
We have a similar issue here in UK, the prison system is definitely at capacity, so we're releasing more people who probably should stay inside. Immigration is a part of the issue, it ultimately adds more people into the equation, but there is real issues with prison spaces, prison quality, sentencing, prison services, and police actually finding criminals. The Tory government probably wants people to blame immigrant criminals rather than them for the issues they've done little to prevent turning into crisis. The opposition isn't likely to do much better or to address the root causes, but when the government isn't effective the quality of the opposition seems to not matter.
