    I adore the state this song puts me in. It was the perfect closer to the album: a reminder to the listener of the creative power they carry within themselves borne of the cosmic forces that created us.

    One I cherish. Cool in concert, a bit better on the album, especially keyboards.
    We feel the powers and we wonder what they are... ❤

    Clockwork Angels Live DVD has a nice 80s setlist that you’ll end up watching most of.
    Deep cuts off Power Windows and Grace Under Pressure.

  • @ischmidt
    @ischmidt ปีที่แล้ว

    The PRS plus whatever effects here isn't *that* far off of the Ovation he played on Power Windows, but the bass is such a massive upgrade over the record that Alex should've brought out a Gibson acoustic to keep up. On the Time Machine
    Tour they brought back the song Presto, but Alex played it on his signature-model Les Paul with the piezo pickups and it just didn't sound right. That song needs all of the jangle, and an electric doesn't cut it.

    Everyone and their brother have done this drum solo. You actually might have already.
    While you might get disappointed with Geddy’s voice, you’d love the Clockwork Angels tour set list.

  • @katskillz
    @katskillz ปีที่แล้ว

    I vote you skip the drum solo for this concert. It is way overhyped by rabid fans, but sub par to my ears. There's probably 300 reactions to this one already on youtube, maybe because the video footage is on point to see what he's doing. But I recall hearing even Neil himself saying this was an off night (had the flu or something).

  • @yes_head
    @yes_head ปีที่แล้ว

    Geddy funk! Defo a cool song, though it was probably a challenge getting all those 80's sounds programmed into their rigs. It's also interesting that Geddy struggles a bit more with the vocal on this song than on many others. It feels like it's sustained in a range just beyond what he was comfortable with, so it ended up being a trickier performance. But how nice to hear that bass part on the Fender and not a stupid Steinberger or Wal.

  • @grahamkey8496
    @grahamkey8496 ปีที่แล้ว

    Astonishing drumming. Most drummers would use a drum machine for at least those cymbals and effects, and just play kick and a few fills live. Not Neil - he played the whole thing live. I like how there are very few snare hits in this song giving the impression of space, but there's a ton more stuff going on the whole time.

  • @shabadoo25

    A reviewer said that an infinite number of monkeys at an infinite number of drumkits would never come up with the drum part for Mystic Rhythms. A tour with a lot of Power Windows songs? Your almost there.

    Love playing this on the drums...but it took a good long while to get it right. The clap trap on the left foot trigger always got me. The drum pattern repeats itself back and forth and then forwards and backwards it's an ambidextrous torture test. it's like rubbing your head and tummy the opposite direction using both hands, along with your left foot also in a different pattern . ..then reversing the pattern in the opposite direction with all 4 limbs! Reminds me of a washing machine of odd time! I just wish the camera man would show what he is doing with his feet. Playing snare, triggers and effects with his feet to free up his hands. The official video shows what he is doing much better and you can see the "back and forth" complexity on the drum parts too. th-cam.com/video/rxwRzW6ehAU/w-d-xo.html

    You know when you think about it, Ged's voice is subject to the not only the rigors of touring, but aging. For me I tend to keep in mind that he is actually SINGING. This is contrary to many other contemporary artists who lean on track. He's going to have nights where its a struggle to sing those parts he did in the early years.

    Not only is a great song, this one is particularly difficult to play live to my ears. It just sounds like it could fall apart at any moment if any one of them slips. Each instrumental part is so articulate, and what each one is playing is not very related to the rest rhythmically, so any goof stands out like a sore thumb... you can hear moments where the group's tightness is slipping, but it never falls off the edge.
    This song is the true tightrope walk for the band

    Power Windows is a good album, but it's too watered down. I haven't listened to it much since it came out. For me, this was the last album I bought. They had a great run, ten albums of solidly great music. Very few bands out there as good as Rush.

    One of my favs from Power Windows. I was just starting to get into different sounds in my musical journey when this song from them came out and I was like ok Neil love the, yep VIBE. One question I have for you Jason, why does Geddy pick up his right hand on the Bass instead of leaving it on his bass like he usually does during this song? Does that make a different sound. I not a bass player so I find that interesting.

    • @JustinPanariello
      @JustinPanariello  ปีที่แล้ว

      where specifically are you talking about? timestamp? Just skimming back through it, I don't see anything abnormal or weird about what he's doing with his right hand.

    • @jeffvomero1242
      @jeffvomero1242 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JustinPanariello Its from 4:13-4:25. Looks like he is just allowing the note ring. Just wondering if removing ur hand or finger makes a different sound.

    • @JustinPanariello
      @JustinPanariello  ปีที่แล้ว

      Just what you are saying. The note is sustaining freely. He could have easily left his hand 'in position' but he didn't. Really nothing more about it. In terms of technique, your right hand mutes the lower (sounding) strings and your left hand mutes the higher (sounding) strings... all while doing their other functions (plucking and fretting).
