  • A review of the eagerly anticipated RMweb Exclusive - Limited Edition DJModels Hunslet Austerity 0-6-0ST, in dazzling NCB Yellow Livery.
    The Hunslet Austerity was a simplified version 50550 Class, designed for the War Department during World War 2, for use both on the Homefront and overseas. The first of the new Austerities entered service in 1943 and by 1947, a total of 379 had been built.
    After the war, the War Department started selling off a number of Locomotives to new owners, including to the LNER, which later classified them as the J94 Class, as well as railways and private owners in the Nederland’s and France.
    Construction of new Austerities also continued after the war, with orders for new locomotives being placed by the National Coal Board, as well as other private owners, and by 1964 at total of 485 locomotives being built. A number of these locomotives where still in action right through the 1970’s, with some even lasting into the early 80’s.
    In total 70 member of the class have been preserved in various conditions.
    Commissoned by RMweb this model depicts Hunslet Austerity, works number 3889, which was the penultimate standard gauge industrial steam locomotive produced by Hunslet for the UK Market in 1964.
    Built for the National Coal Board, she saw service at Manvers Main Colliery in Rotherham, before moving to Cadley Hill Colliery in 1975, where she was noted to be one of the last working steam industrial locomotives in the UK, working right up until the early 1980’s.
    Entering preservation in 1983, No.65 is currently awaiting overhaul at the Flour Mill Workshops in the Forest of Dean.
    Limited to just 200 pieces, the model is priced at £99.95 and can be purchased through DJmodels Website.
    DJModels and RMweb have done an stunning job in capturing the look of this interesting and rugged prototype, with the model features a wealth of detail including; sprung buffers, separately fitted smoke box dart, finely applied hand rails and pipework, extensively detailed cab interior, well applied Glazing, plus more.
    Fitted with a powerful Coreless Motor with Flywheel, the Austerity runs slowly and smoothly straight from the box. Having no issue with point-work, even at a crawl. This model really is a must for any Industrial or for someone looking for a livery that’s just a bit different!
    Hope you enjoy!

    Loving that little engine, I can just imagine it with a good heavy rake of coal wagons behind it.

    When the locomotive was brought to Cadley Hill from Manvers Main the NCB were hoping that with it being relatively new it would be in pretty good condition. However they found it had led a hard life and went and bought ''Swiftsure' from Dodsworth Colliery as a source of spares. That locomotive was in such a good state that they didn't want to break it up, and in fact lit her up and had a run about the colliery yard after it arrived.

      @SDJR7F88  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the info on her. Never knew that. Funny enough I want to the Avon Valley Railway the other day, where 'Sapper' was running. From what I recall, her current boiler is from this very loco!

      The yellow livery is a very 'safe' one. Hi-vis all round & all that.
      It would make the usual state of filth of any colliery locomotive look even worse.

    DJ Models should definitely do the Hunslet 50550 class. I don’t know how much of the class was built from the number of the first one to be built and the number of the last one to be built. If you know, please do let me know

    Again great review Callum! Tbh don't like Austerities in yellow much more prefer dark blue! Other than that I love the amount of research and detail that went into it! I'll never look at them the same way again! I thought 18 was a large number of preserved members of a Class but 70, Christ :)

      @SDJR7F88  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks ever so much Dan! Must admit is is a Marmite Livery ;) Certainly did spend a far bit of time looking at the background of the class and loco itself. Really was very interesting indeed! Turns out her boiler is current being used on Sapper! :D Indeed! Didn't know there were so many! :D Glad you enjoyed!

    Wow cool review of the model. I do like the N.C.B. yollow livery on your model and I will be looking forward & interesting to see it hauling N.C.B. minimal wagon in your next video. One question I have is DJModels Hunslet Austerity are better then Hornbys?

    • @SDJR7F88
      @SDJR7F88  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks ever so much mate! Really do love the livery. Certainly stands out on the layout ;) Oh yes, will be a must, got a few events coming up this weekend, which will come first, but it will be coming ;) In short, yes. Really is an all out stunning model. Hornby's is slightly heavier and can pull a bit more, but the detail on this one is just stunning!

    An excellent review of a stunning loco. I'm planning on getting one, but i can't decide which livery! I've narrowed it down to either Hattons' NCB Littleton Blue, Hackworth NCB Lined Black or NCB Red with Wasp Stripes. Any Thoughts. Cameron

      @SDJR7F88  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks ever so much indeed Cameron! Ohhh, hard choice. They are all very nice liveries. For me I think it would be between 'Littleton' and the NCB Red, both look stunning, especially with the weathering :) Though I think I would most likely go for the red one myself :) Many thanks indeed!
