    This truly inspires me to get into blacksmithing. Of course, it would take much time to make anything as awesome as Chandler, but I can't imagine NOT getting lost in time, working away and creating something so beautiful and useful out of raw metal. I'm only 19 years old, but I figure if I start now, I can only get better at it with time.

    you did an awesome job with it! Im wanting to start blacksmithing once I get everything I need for it. And watching your videos has already taught me alot of things I needed to know. Especially since I learn better from demonstration, your step by step process is going to be the focal point of learning how to do this wonderous craft, cheers!

    Outstanding, loved the step by step creation, really bought out the work involved and the attention to detail was what brought it to a finish that was simply art!

      Dude. Chandler started with regular hammer and an axe head for an anvil. Get some metal, start a fire and beat in it. See what happens. You will make a hot mess (blacksmiths Are the only people who should be allowed to say hot mess) but you will learn something. Every time I fire my forge I learn something new. Just do it

    Nice work, Chandler. I have always found art in steel is always such a pleasure to look at. Makes me want to try it, but I think not at age 69. Maybe next lifetime. When I retire next month I intend to try my hand at MIG welding, inspired by my daughter, who is a welder/armourer/CNC operator.
    I just stumbled across this vid, and now you have a new Canadian subscriber. Thanks for putting your art up for all to enjoy. I am off to check out your store at etsy.com. There may be an order coming your way shortly. I like your approach.

    Hope you can answer this! Before you had your shop, did you just leave all your equipment outside, or did you lug it in and out of a shed or garage? Right now I have an outdoor setup, and I hate having to lug all my tools in and out of the garage. I am thinking of maybe being able to leave them outside in a way that they won't rust.

    I would love to see you make an elk head skinning knife out of a railroad spike. That dragon looked pretty awsome and challenging and i think the elk would be more challenging since there are more tines and points on the antlers. I love to see blacksmiths challenge themselves and i think alot of the people on youtube would like to see you challenge yourself more often. If you would consider making the elk head out of a railroad spike that woild be awsome

    • @chandlerdickinson
      @chandlerdickinson  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      brandon vessey Drop me an email at chandlersstore@mindspring.com I think the challenge would be to make the antlers in a way that would be strong, look realistic and not be in the way of using the knife... but elk and white tail are on my todo list... somewhere

  • @HiddenThicket
    @HiddenThicket 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Though I'm sure you realize it already, a lot of your detailing problems are because your punches and chisels aren't fine enough in the tip. A hard, sharp (or just thin, unless you want to slice) edge can probably cut soft, hot metal as well as it can putty, which leaves a lot more detail work available than a few blunt punches. But, of course, I'm just speculating. I've never done metalworking myself.

    I just finished watching your video :') it brought a tear to my eye it's a beautiful piece. Yes rough in some areas yes but that's what gives it it's charm. The one thing I thought as you where forging the blade. I couldn't help but to think that if you had made a Kukri style blade it would have fit really good with the curvature of the over all knife. Which could have been started at around 36:42 because it was starting to get tip heavy a very lovely Kukri could have been born. However they way it turned out is still excellent. What I am stating is personal taste. Anyway I love watching your videos and they are teaching me a lot. Right now I don't have the money to get the equipment I need to get started. But I am collecting what I will need it's just going to take some time. However your videos have been mentally preparing me so when the time does get here. I will know what to do, how I should do it, and what it will look like as I work. So Thanks for the wonderful work you have done so far.

    I watched your froe and now this one going back. First time watcher. Love metal working and your videos are awesome. I was wondering, you would say make a list of hammers, tongs, by names or weights, and maybe to save you mentioning all that is commonplace to you, just say spray paint the tool or color tape the handle some such, so to the viewer its obvious 'oh heavy hammer for this' and then all you gotta do is keep a copy pasted list on your videos in the Description area, so people can follow along for basic awareness. *shrug* Just a thought, and maybe a nice feature for the non layman to get more involved with how and what is going on.
    In any case, Love the videos and your personality and honesty, all those are great just the way they are as well as your choices.
    Take care and hope to see many more!

    Would it be possible to extend the time you have with a piece before it cools down by pointing a blow torch at it once it's in the vise? When you work on fine details like nostrils, eyes, ears, wrinkles etc?
