Mark Russell was staple viewing for me through the 1980s and 90s, never missed a special if I could help it. I had not seen him in quite a while and sadly this is the first time I've thought of this wonderful man in years, hearing of his death.
When I was young I'd see ads for his shows and wonder why anyone would sit through them. Then as an adult I tried listening to them and wondered why anyone thought they were funny. "Oh dear god, a song about the budget. Help me..."
I grew up w/ this guy on PBS. He hit the nail on the head.

I remember watching and enjoying these. Godspeed, Mr. Russell.
Me too...always made me and my Ma laugh...thanks for the great laughs Mr. Russell.
A real legend of public television. #PBSNEWS
Well done as always
Loved this guy 😥
He was a great comedian!
We couldn't agree more!
So smart. I see comments here that he passed. Gosh, that makes me feel sad.
RIP Mr. Russell
Love this genius
RIP
He was a true original. I read he was an inspiration for Weird Al.

I love and grew up with this genius ❤ - but tiny winky was a trans activist 😂
As a kid, I thought MR was corny and lame. 40 years old now and, yeah, still corny and lame.
As a person entering their 20's in 1980 I was fortunate to observe Mr Russell deliver his wonderful satire first hand. Today's generation has no clue.
Do you read the bible. I am a divine king, not a legal college athlete
Is he supposed to be funny?
