that's a good idea to put it all into a rig like that and running into a dj mixer no less good thinking.

Are you using one DT for percussion and the other DT for everything else? Or do you work more fluid?

    • @Davemech

Each DT contains a groove. So I program them seperate from eachother. Live I create the arrangement and mix grooves together, use the loopers on the db4 to create new grooves etc. I've now added a digitone which has opened up another level of depth :)

Ah, yeah, that makes way more sense! I have an OT and a DT and am experimenting with my best way to use them together.

just curious why two digitakts and no other synths or samplers? cheers

      Thanks for watching Matt!
I own a Dominion 1 as well, but this way the setup is really compact/easy to take to gigs (most of the time there's not much room for live gear), and I like the workflow of the digitakts for live use. It kind of feels like one big sampler with mixing capabilities. Which is great. Having two of them opens up a depth of possibilities as well once I'm going to use the midi sequencers. Waiting for an update before I go that route though :)

i have been using my digitakt connected to a traktor s4 and being clocked by traktor which has been really interesting to fool around with. so you effectively have 32 potential patterns, 2 gb of sample space, and could potentially sequence 16 different midi devices from this rig?

matt black that sounds like a great setup too!
I have 8 banks of 16 patterns each per project. But switching projects is doable live because I have two :). I'll make a a video sometime about this setup and how I use it.

This is ‘constructive’ criticism. I don’t know what specific style of trance/? this is but it could use some of that digitone i.e. a melody and I still have a lot to get comfortable with when it comes to performing on my digitakt and I don’t dj so not to put down your style, but you are rocking 2 Digitakts so I would highly suggest you get better acquainted with the ‘fill’ and other conditional trigs and change that timeless 4/4 kick up a bit, be dangerous bro!! Otherwise you do great on changing things up and setting a good atmosphere.

      Hi,
I suggest you look at some more recent work of mine ;). Check out my channel if you will. I'm quite handy with the digitakt actually, or so I think. This video was made about 3 months into having this setup. Also this is techno, not trance. So it might be handy to get familiair with the style first. My SoundCloud contains a fairly recent full hour Liveset: soundcloud.com/davemech. I added a digitone about 2 months ago as well. Thanks for you thoughts though. And I appriciate your honesty. Cheers

Dave Mech I figured it was some sort of 4 on the floor ‘style’, there’s to many names to keep up with.
I have seen some of your other content, mainly sampling random sounds and making a track on the Digitakt. I will have to cruz around a bit more in the future. You do mix and create a good sound overall quite well.

@@ubiquitousreverser techno is all about energy, repetition, rhythm, groove, and subtle changes. It's a very broad genre on itself as well. Many different types of energy and atmospheres. I can recommend to research minimal music (Philip glass, Steve Reich etc.) as well. It's a genre of classical music where the power of repetition is utilized.

Dave Mech philip glass I know, b/c of his work with RDJ on a song he did on his debut aphex twin album. I listen to a lot of ‘electronic’ music and I used to listen to techno when I was young but it’s not very often I hear any 4/4 based track that really sucks me in these days.
Though Legowelt has here lately. Also got some great sample’s from his website recently for my Digitakt.
Pretty nice of him to give them away, he’s got some nice vintage gear for his sources.
Yeah, I could probably use a good education on song structure.
Getting some more editing done on my vid and I know I’ll need at least a few more months before I can really give a proper performance.
