- In depth course for the original Digitakt 1 now heavily discounted! Get here: davemech.live/...
You can get the samples from the video for free (or pay what you want for support) here: davemech.gumro...
Super happy with this new release. It's really a leveled up Digitakt and since it's my most used groovebox ever, you might guess I love this thing! In this video I go over the fearures that I like the most and why. It's a somewhat brief overview but hopefully it shows you some interesting stuff. I also recorded a bunch of samples to create a first groove on the new Digitakt ii.
Disclaimer 1: Elektron send me the Digitakt 2. They have no say over the content of the video. I do my best to give my honest overview and wishes. I love the original Digitakt dearly so naturally I'm very enthusiastic about this release as well :)
Disclaimer 2: I accidentally left the overhead camera on continuous auto-focus so sometimes the image is zooming and things become a bit blurry. Luckily it's not too bad.

will you be making a DTII course?
@@KhashieYeap !
@@Davemech any idea as to when it'll be released? :) hoping to wait out for it
@@Davemech Hi Dave,
Thank you for the amazing video. I was wondering if you have an update about the course? I would love to buy it!
@@aiden7274Thanks! Working on it :) biggest project I've done so far but it's coming together. Had some personal stuff to through the past few months so it is taking a bit longer. Hold tight , and make sure to subscribe to the mailinglist to be notified first :) cheers!
The DT II video I've been looking forward to. Fantastic track at the end too. You have a gift. Glad to see you back. :)
Thank you kindly ! Good to be back. Looking forward to start posting some new jams and sample & jam videos and what not
hey Dave Mech broo!! so good to see you, your vibe and your videos are always so informative and uplifting, i truly appreciate you man, cheers!
Super nice of you to say. Thank you ❤️ it’s been a bit difficult to try and start things back up again but looking forward to start creating more again :) really appreciate your comment. Cheers
This has been by far and away the most compelling Digitakt II video I've watched. You got the presentation just right, not a dry presentation of all the features, but honed down to what's most interesting and presented in a really practical way. Thanks! I think you may have significantly influenced my purchasing decision. I learned a few things!
Thank you so much 🙏 glad to hear it was a nice watch. I was really in doubt if this was the right direction to take. I kept in mind what’s already out there so just zoomed into the stuff that excites me the most about DT2. Cheers 🍻
I'm enthralled with the Digitakt 2. Just finally received mine yesterday and right out of the box, I was comfortable and things were working well. And I'm a pure newb with only the model:samples as my initial intro to Elektron workflow. Very happy and excited to learn more and why I'm happy to've arrived here. /cheers🍻
Nice! Yeah the interface is really well done. Happy sampling 🍻
Wow - subscribed and ordered ✨✨ Here I was contemplating a TR8S.. I was lost, but now I’m found, excited for the journey.
Nice! Welcome and enjoy your DT II !
I love your techno production.
Yo mate, thank you kindly ❤️❤️
two legends right here
Never would have thought about internal midi feedback, that's awesome. ✌️thx
the new Digitakt 2 looks good, thanks for sharing DM!
Give it up for the trombone player masquerading as a door 👏 👏👏
lol 😉
That comb filter looks just class…sold my DT1 yesterday, DT2 is on the way…super video !
Thanks! yeah the comb filter is really fun to play with
buufff!!! man this track is unbelievable ! 🔥
Awesome thank you 🙏
Are you freaking kidding me with that jam at the eng?!!🔥🔥🔥 Subbed!
😄 thanks ! And welcome :)
Finally got one! T
hx for the inspiration! Lets start with an upgrade for Overbridge 🙂
So good to see you again ... waiting patiently for my order to arrive!
MIDI presets FINALLY! Hope Elektron adds this to the other takts.
Thank you
Not meaning to be a jerk, but auto focus is triggering OCD distractions. Let's try manual focus next time. Cameras are just not very smart.
Haha yeah I out that in the description. Was a mistake. Normally use manual.
Great content. I’ve own a Rytm for years, but wanted something to seq external MIDI, so decided to try DT II. I still have loads to learn but having a blast. I’m pairing this with a Perkons in a live context. I’d love to see a video where you show you are using these together. Also, I really wish the DT II offered the same pattern switch modes found on Rytm. I would very much like to switch patterns without waiting up to 8 measures before the change kicks in. Rytm has a mode for instant switching in phase position. I love this, especially for live.
Yeah those modes are great indeed.
However you don't need to wait 8 measures either on DTii. ;). Press go to page setup menu and switch to per track sequencer mode. (Func+yes). Now you can set individual lengths for each track. Set reset.length to infinite unless you want all tracks to reset after a certain amount of steps. Use change length to set the amount of steps it takes for the sequencer to switch. Lowest setting is 2.
Don't know if you already knew but in my shop DaveMech.live/shop I have a free cheat sheet for digitakt II. I'm also working on a full course for dtii. :) cheers
Nice one, Dave! Love that jam at the end! 😁👊
Thanks mate !❤️
Strong video. Thank you. Looking forward to the next one !!
Would love to see a video where you combine syntakt digitakt II and native intrunents traktor in sync for live set
Interesting idea :)
adding: MIDI LFOs machines would be amazing... and it would REALLY add to the whole modularity aspect that they're aiming for when marketing DT2. Sequencing the FX, I don't see that happening, UI-wise seems unlikely imho. A manager for Digitakt is long overdue, not being able to catch a glimpse of all pattern names for example is absolutely crazy, same with moving around samples as you mentions, specially now that we have sample banks.
EDIT: also, great jam at the end! I love to be able to hear proper stereo field on those samples you recorded. Can't wait to get my hands on mine!
Ein-de-lijk!
I was waiting for your input.
Haha ja t duurde even. Moet echt weer even inkomen na zolang uit de running te zijn geweest.
I'm glad to see you again :)
I always find you easiest to follow when talking elektron box language. Picked up loads in this half hour thanks.
Great to hear thanks. Looking forward to share more :)
Yes! Maestro of digitak is back!!🎉🎉
🙏🙏
that comb filter... 🤤Performance mode also seem pretty great for my worfklow (I think it's pretty similar to yours) as to be able to have temporary patterns that serve as a breakdown to create tention, buildups, etc. - then go back to the original pattern, without the value jumps.
Really good jam/song!
Thank you !
Custom samples and beat sounds great. Thanks for sharing. :)
Thanks ! Happy to share those 🙏
Wow, what a jam - you and this machine are the new Mnml Techno kings 🤤
Thank you ☺️🙌
Really awesome jam at the end
Thank you 🙏
Thriller intro... 🙂
Your techno waltz sounds awesome 👍
Massive Tune Dave
Cheers :) 🍻
Great video! I do hope they fix the page looping soon, its a great idea but not really usable right now.. Not only do things go out of sync but it seems to instantly jump to a page if you press it while playing and its very bad sounding and janky and sounds like its trying to "catch up". I would expect it to play the selected looping bars after the currently played one finishes for a smooth transition 🤔
But, I'm sure it will be fixed soon, early days!
OMG Dave Mech is back ,,,💥
Woohoo!
Great video Dave !!!
I really like the fact that the probality and conditions are seperate , does it mean that both are cumultative or exclusive ?
Keep it going , seems like ya having fun the the digitakt ....more than syntakt ?
Thanks ! Cumulative ! :)
And both. Have been spending a lot of time with syntakt as well lately. starting next week I'm releasing a huge amount of weekly content for syntakt with a lot of useful tips and tricks
Great Video my FREN :)
Cheers ! 🍻
Great stuff. 👍 Looking forward to the deep dive course on the DT2 that is presumably in the works? 🙏
Thanks! It is :)

Jam is seriously insane
Thank you ❤️
Has someone tested the test function? (holding shift while powering it on)? Mine seems to freezer frequently after testing a few buttons. I'm nevertheless stoked about the new functionality and I'm very much looking forward to future updates of this machine.
Amazing stuff! I bought one of your courses for digitone and it’s awesome! When are you going to come out with a D2 course?
As soon as possible. I’m starting production next week. :)
@@Davemech awesome! I’m all over it!

it's like they made the dt everyone wanted when it first came out! 20 gigs fml...
Hi Dave! Thanks for sharing this! Do you have plans to release an in-depth course on the Digitakt 2 on your website? That would be awesome!
Yea that is a certainty! I’m already preparing things and expect to release the course within a few months
It's now available finally ! davemech.live/mastering-digitakt-ii-complete
Thats one hell of an amazing jam. Wonderi g if you made the kick from the field recordings? Ive been having fun mangling and layering field recordings to make kickdrums on this thing.
Thank you kindly :). In this case it was not a kick made from fiel recordings. But I do that too sometimes. Definitely a lot of fun :)
If they manage to add Oberbridge to the DT2 where you can really record all tracks and fx then it is the perfect companion to my modular. Assignable envelopes would also be nice
Overbridge for dt2 will definitely come :)
@@Davemech I hope that they manage to send all tracks to the daw currently with the analog rytm mk1 I am Limited to 8 on 16bit. Currently I am using for producing tracks (that's why i need the multitrack recording) an analog rytm with a modular and clips from bitwig the digitakt could replace the clips and the rytm in a better way ;-).
Hells Yeah
Love the video, Dave! Question: have you given this a spin with your Perkons? I'm currently using a Model:Samples with my Perkons, and I love that I can add some extra layering and use the M:S to switch patterns on the Perkons. However, the pattern chaining on the M:S is clunky, and there is no song mode. This would be an expensive upgrade, but song mode and intuitive pattern chaining would make my Perkons sets sooooo much deeper. Any advice is appreciated!
Awesome video! Love the sampling location - Can you please tell me what Mic Model you use?
For the field recording I used zoom H5 which is discontinued. A new version is now available with 32bit recording. Supposedly really good so I might upgrade someday. The mic I use for the talking bits is a rode ntg4+.
Thanks much sir! Very much appreciate it. I’m not at your level so will explore the older models of the Zoom most likely.
Also appreciate the discounted MasterClass for the D1 as I most likely will buy to learn the device better while I wait for some discounted D2s in the future.
when are we getting that new course Dave 😉
Still some work to do but I'm making progress !
@@Davemech haha good luck :) looking forward to it!!

Mad how they let you walk around with a hammer Dave 😂
😅
Super .
im glad im not the only one who thinks the placement of the keyboard button is bad
Yeah it’s not the best. But I’m sure we’ll get used to it
When will you have Digitakt 2 courses? I think Digitakt 2 is going be my very first attempt at making music.
Thanks for the interest in the courses. I can’t put a date on it exactly just yet. But after superbooth I’m going to start with the production. You can expect it within a few months 👍
The DT II complete course is now available! davemech.live/mastering-digitakt-ii-complete
Hey Dave thanks for the video, just a little feedback. It’s very difficult to follow along what you are doing because your moving at an incredible speed, I have to slow it down just to see what you are doing. I’d recommend trying to slow it down for us who haven’t developed that rapid muscle memory yet 😂
Haha yeah I get ya. The reason for that is that there were already so many videos showcasing everything from a basic kind of view point. So I just wanted to make a bit of a different and do a bit more high paced video showing what I like about it plus sampling and a jam. I also have slower paced videos. It just depends on what in going for. My courses especially are much slower in the beginning especially.
Thanks for watching and I of course appreciate the feedback
Why didnt they put an Arpeggiator on it? That was my most wanted feature but ... no.
🤷♂️
Are you going to do a mega course on the digi 2 ?
Yeap! Working on it :). If you want updates best to subscribe to my mailinglist and/or discord channel
@Davemech I'm sure it won't be too far away, loved your syntakt courses helped me heaps to understand the workflow, it was difficult at first but after 2 weeks it just clicked now I can use the other elektron boxes I have
It's finally available now :) davemech.live/mastering-digitakt-ii-complete
Does anyone know whether aftertouch now gets transmitted from an external controller to another external synth?
That is, can we can now use an external keyboards/controllers aftertouch/mod wheel (such as the keystep) via the digitakt to control another external synth (such as a sequential take 5)?
On my DT1 I cannot use my keysteps mod wheel or keyboard aftertouch to control my external synths via the digitakt (I can only modulate these parameters via the knobs on the DT).
I’ve been asking around for anyone’s personal experiences with this but haven’t had it confirmed yet. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated- thanks :)
Is it now possible that a master keyboard forwards it's pitch and modulation wheel info to gear on other midi tracks?
Should now work but I’m not entirely sure yet. I’ll check after superbooth
Wait, you can start sampling on play to create fixed length loops from your other midi controlled sysnths?
Yes :)
What do you think about its “synth” capability?
It’s actually very capable. You can use wave tables and single cycle waveforms, and of course samples. So each track has a very flexible oscillator you could say. Individual tracks are not polyphonic unfortunately but add something like a retrokits rk002 and suddenly you will have a poly synth and groovebox in one. Synthesis wise it has everything you’d want and more since you will have full control over each “voice”. It’s arguably slightly more quirky to program as a polysynth than a traditional one but still … Cheers 🙏
Looks lurvely. Do we know anything about the quantity/nature of the preloaded samples? Elektron don't seem to discuss this on the product page.
There’s quite a lot compared to the original factory content. And much more useful sounds as well !
@@Davemech Thanks! Useful sounds good. I found the preloaded samples on the Mk1 to be very techno/glitch oriented, less useful for house etc.
I wish they had implemented a Mod envelope in addition to the two LFOs.. the third LFO is nice but an envelope would have been cooler
I can't say for sure but like I mentioned in the video, the fact that the page is called MOD in stead of LFO suggests we might see MOD machines
@@Davemech You’re probably right. Thank you for the great video, it’s been a huge help transitioning to the 2. Do you have any tips/tricks on slicing a sample into non-equal parts? I’m trying to achieve what I do on the OP-1, recording a piece of dialogue and chopping it by word so I can trigger each word rhythmically with my beat..
Thanks in advance for any additional guidance
how did you load the samples into digitakt 2?
Via usb using the transfer application from Elektron 👍
What is your personal opinion about the sound engine between the old and new machine?
Hard to say as working with stereo samples changes things quite a bit. Both sound great to me !
Thanks! I will observe you further ;-)
Where did u go? Digitakt 2 is out man!
Well I'm here now haha!
Does the preset pool trig mode play the whole sample if you change patterns or does it cut off? I guess , if so, you could put an 8 bar transition in the preset pool and trigger just before you change patterns.
I think if you keep the track , that was selected while triggering the preset , muted that should work. That way the preset won’t be cut off.
oh men still no usb c ...but i will give it a try. i think now with that, my tr-8s and 2 op-1s i have a pretty good live setup that fits in a small case!
That sounds like a nice setup indeed!
Regarding usb-c: there’s not much of an upside to it really. USB-b provides enough bandwidth for many streams of audio. Beyond what would be used by DT2. The connector itself is also much studier and I prefer it to usb-c really.
What field recorder is this? Any recording tips?
It's a zoom h5 that is now discontinued. The new one is really nice though. 32bit recoding. General tip would be to just have fun recording sounds around you. Don't try and record super perfect all the time but rather find interesting sounds and just point and press record :)
@@Davemech thanks for the tips :)
Dave please hurry up and make a Digitakt 2 course :-) we will all pay you lots of monies
On it 😎
Took a lot of months, but it's finally finished. It's the complete course, right here: davemech.live/mastering-digitakt-ii-complete
Hello, could you you share which device you use for sample recording like in this video?
It’s the zoom h5. It’s discontinued now I believe. There’s a newer version. Supposed to be quite good !
@@DavemechThank you Dave!
Pretty weird they went with usb B…… transferring 15 gigs of samples takes about 24 hours lol
Super annoying. It is USB2 so it should support much higher rates than what it gets.
Usb B is not the problem, the protocol used is.
@@sr_naranja_music yup. I don’t know why they went with usb/midi instead of just regular USB data transfer.
That’s the current state but I assume that will be taken care of in the foreseeable future
Looks cool, but from an outsiders POW - terribly involved. I can’t help thinking how superior a compact Ableton sampler would be in terms of usability. I can’t stand that bloody Push chessboard. Probably will never happen though.
Not sure what you mean by terribly involved. The UI of Elektron instruments, and especially the smaller instruments like this one, is quite brilliant actually. This is something you cannot see from this video alone. Basically everything is very top level and thus only one or two button presses away. Once muscle memory kicks in the workflow is incredibly fast.
A hypothetical Ableton in a box in this size can’t be superior as it’s simply something that is completely impossible:). Ableton is a daw first and has way too much functionality to be this direct in control. Even push is not even trying to do this as it’s mostly aimed at performance, not as a complete substitute of Live. Keyboard and mouse is pretty much as fast as it can get there ;)
Regarding push: I have push 3 standalone and for what it offers it’s pretty brilliant. But it really depends on what you’re looking for of course. As always, it’s all very subjective.
Cheers,
man you look like elon musk haha :D
No no no I don't
🖤💟💋
Did anyone told you that you look like David Bowie?
Haha yeah. Heard that a few times in my life
How can I not be a fan of the og? By not being an idiot maybe?
Sorry to hear it hurts a nerve ?
Can’t follow a thing. Your fingers move to fast.
This video was more aimed at people that are familiar with the DT1 and a bit with DT2 already. Dedicated tutorials for TH-cam where I’ll move slower will be released in the near future as well as a full course for the DT 2 :) cheers
@@Davemech Thanks, I absolutely need that ! I feel lost with the DT2 and can’t find the way to enjoy it.

Hey Laurent, the complete course for DT II is now available: davemech.live/mastering-digitakt-ii-complete
My biggest dissapointment was indeed the lack of the FX track. I really hope they will implement it in the future 🥲
I doubt it seeing the user interface on DT. But let’s hope so !
I actually found the FX track on the Syntakt to be really awkward to use. P-locking the FX sends on the trigs with the DT/DN works for me!
