What's upsetting in general about parliamentary questioning is that if you lie there the worst that can happen is you are held to be 'in contempt of parliament'. The punishment for this is... nothing. A statutory public inquiry is different. Not only can you be compelled to give evidence (failure to do so without reasonable excuse is criminal offence), but if you lie to an inquiry that is a criminal offence. I don't actually see that she's lying here, necessarily. She is just claiming not to really understand what has been requested and withheld. If it turns out she was fully briefed and part of the decision that was made to withhold the documents, then it does appear that she is lying.

Or if you admit it you just get a suspended sentence or community punishment. So to avoid prison you admit guilt. Over and done with you think. Then your company sues you for court costs because you were found guilty, you owe £350,000 in court costs. Your life ruined. This company is called the Post Office. Their logo is " whatever you need us for, we're here for you". They spent £100 million in expensive lawers to try to avoid paying £58 million in compensation. The class action saw the incorrectly convicted see £20,000 in compensation after court costs. The executive salaries were between £250,000 and £500,000. I agree with the principle of your point, but the Post Office is publicly owned in the UK. Much of the public sector in the UK is institutionally corrupt or incompetent, let alone the greedy, unscrupulous private sector. The one difference is that corporate criminals can usually be prosecuted. Here, the chief executives in the public sector just move to a different position or get a gold plated retirement. Paula Vennells walked into being the chair of an NHS Trust with the help of Dido Harding. Yet another example of failing upwards.
    From Alexander’s Excavations blog:
Dido Harding the Chair of NHS Improvement was personally involved in Vennells’ selection for the Imperial Chair. NHS Improvement has admitted that it gave no ‘specific weight’ to the major litigation against the Post Office nor to MPs’ concerns about the Post Office’s leadership at the time that it appointed Vennells to the Imperial Chair. NHS Fit and Proper Person arrangements are not fit for purpose. They are also under the control of Dido Harding and NHS Improvement, who have delayed in acting properly upon the recommendations of a review by Tom Kark QC into these issues.

Because they know they kept ministers fully informed further up the chain right into Government from 2010 onwards. There has to be a firebreak otherwise ministers will also have to go to jail. These two have been shredding evidence since 2012 so there isn't an upwards paper trail. The Government know that if these two go to jail, they will start to sing. The only way to keep them quiet is to keep them out of jail. I think you will find that only a few of the lower ranks in the PO and Fujitsu will go to jail. They will be found to have operated beyond their authorisation, it will be found that the former PO Board will all claim that nobody told them that there were problems with the system. Of course it's all complete rubbish but a lie doesn't have to be believable to stand if all the evidence has been shredded. If the Post Office had a problem with its IT and this was causing significant branch issues, you would have thought it was in their best interest to get to the bottom of it. After all, how can the business proceed effectively if they are spending time closing down branches and prosecuting their Sub postmasters?? Surely, it was in the best interest of the Post Office to get to the truth so that they could draw a line under it and move on . . . the first step being to scrap the system and seek redress from Fujitsu. What on earth did Vennells and her dreadful colleague stand to gain from being deceptive, evasive and dishonest?? I just don't understand their motivation. As it is, they have destroyed themselves moving forward, done untold damage to the Post Office brand but most important of all, damaged and in some cases, literally destroyed the lives of large numbers of hard working, loyal Post Office employees. Of course, the ridiculous thing in all of this is the fact this Select Committee roasting took place exactly 9 years ago in 2015 and this begs the question - what's been happening since?? The evidence from this committee was damning to say the least and yet here we are, all these years later and it takes an ITV drama documentary to get something done about it. The situation is shameful . . . . .

Follow the money. There was too much money coming in from this 'computer error'. The computer was always in error in their favour. The stupid thing is, if there was fraud, it would show on the computer that they were in the positive, not in the negative. The subpostmasters were literally borrowing from their own savings, friends, re-mortgaging their houses to pay the shortfall. This is not an example of someone stealing the money. When police investigate fraud, they look for evidence of the perpetrator having an excess / extra money/posessions etc that they would not normally have in such a position. When your sub-postmaster turns up in a Bughatti, then you can ask questions, otherwise, look the other way. How rich are the executives and former executives and managers of the post office now?@@Illustraful

It isn’t just those two women at fault. There are lots of people at the Post Office and Fujitsu who have a lot to answer for. They’ve perverted the course of justice. That’s a criminal offence and someone needs to respond accordingly, but reducing it down to two women is wrong. You’ve only got to have seen one of the Post Office investigators at the Public Inquiry the other day, absolutely insisting that one of the men whose criminal conviction has been quashed by the Court of Appeal, was actually guilty. That’s a disgusting and delusional thing to say about a man who has been through the courts and judges have seen that his conviction was wrong.

HR would be informed and they would find any email sent by any employee at any time within minutes and the sender of the rude email would be hung out to dry by HR.
So in this case, how is it that they CEO a doesn’t seem to know fuck all squared about serious allegations and request for information in her organisations emails?
How is it these people can just answer to a public enquiry that they don’t know? That is no defence, any ordinary person saying they don’t know in response to a magistrates question will be deemed to have no defence and therefore guilty of the charge. It doesn’t make fucking sense.
