some stuff was glossed over due to time but a lot of these situations were even worse than how they appear in this video. especially the problems with Japan. that happened right before they had to fly to Japan for concerts and the threats they were getting throughout the video were at lesser levels compared to the ones in Japan. the ones they got other times were done by internet trolls which should still be taken seriously cause you never know what people will do but the ones in Japan were not trolls they were seriously anti korean people in Japan and you could see how scared bts were to travel to Japan and when they arrived in the airport they looked very scared. the only heartwarming thing to happen during this time was Japanese armys stood by bts even though their people were outraged. to the point they went to the airport to greet bts and silently stood there in solidarity as they walked through the airport it made bts very emotional knowing their fans were still supporting them.
going to airports to see celebrities is common in the west and in korea but its frowned upon in Japan so Japanese armys broke rules just to support bts.
also try to keep this video in mind when reading their lyrics going forward bts addressed haters a lot in their music theyre not about tweeting about it theyd rather respond in their music.
as for the military thing its still up in the air they keep dragging it out from 2018 to now never making a decision because they know bts contribute a lot to koreas economy. realistically they should be exempt but the other labels are putting pressure to not let it happen because they want their groups to also receive benefits that those groups dont deserve cause they have no impact compared to bts. whats funny(sarcasm) is 70,000 business men have been exempt from service for having connections but bts who brought real impact to koreas economy are being toyed with and not given a straight answer for years now. its frustrating cause they cant make decisions about new music or tours until they know when they'll be free from services as its nearing time theyre supposed to go. so until theyre told you wont go at all or you will go and be back this amount of time they cant move forward with their group career. which is another reason why theyre taking time for solo music right now besides just wanting to grow and express themselves individually.
these boys have been through too much and it all comes down to jealousy as well as Koreas class system. bts are all technically from lower class families and were never supposed to succeed same with bighit being a small company. youll learn deeper about the big 3 labels in rise of bangtan but when you do keep in mind it has to do with class system too.
the class system was "abolished " after korea no longer had kingdoms however it never really disappeared thats why you see suga call himself a slave in his daechwita music video cause if they were born in older days they would be considered that in the class system.
i suggest reacting to daechwita explained by dkdktv and bts song baepsae lyrics and the baepsae explained by dkdktv to get more insight in this.

That's crazy, and I agree. Threats made to them by people on the internet need to be taken very seriously and they should be prosecuted to the highest extent. I caught a glimpse of that in some of their music. I know their lyrics are very personable and transparent, so I honestly prefer them responding in music, that's how its suppose to be done. Wow so businesses and executives profit from having "connections" with bts and not required to participate in military activity. That is so weird and irrational. That's what I was thinking friend. All of it comes down to jealousy. Sure thing, I am itching to dive deeper into the structure of korea as a whole.

This is just a tip of the iceberg for all of the crap they've gone through and continue to go through. I've heard people say that it couldn't have been "that bad" until you're seeing the sheer amount of ugly that came from someone behind their keyboard. Let's also remember that they were basically still teenagers and JK was 15 - it's hard enough to be young but then to have people slam you for everything and anything could have brought them down or given them a jaded view on life. Instead, the boys have gone on to create music that offers hope and makes us believe we're worth something. Big Hit/HYBE have made it a point that they will sue to the highest degree and not be lenient for anyone who is convicted of this kind of crap.

I mean it turned my stomach seeing some of the things that they wrote. Disgusting to know people really put these vile thoughts out on the internet without any fear of retribution or consequences. Twitter gangsters that like to act tough behind a keyboard and drag down innocent, pure human beings for no logical reason what so ever. It pisses me off. Yes, I am glad friend that they have created the music they did. It definitely helped me with my depression and anxiety at times when I was at my lowest. And I am glad that they are still pursuing legal action against those who think this behavior is okay to engage into.

I wish this was shown all over the world at the time it came out. They way our boys were so badly mistreated was a crime. Now people understand why ARMY are so fiercely protective. They earned every single award and accolade they put in the work and hours and hours of practice to perfect their performances and it absolutely shows. Now they are having to go to military for some ridiculous reason. They were given criteria to meet for exemption which they met and went beyond. What do they military want with BTS , to humiliate them because they didn't get the exemption they were promised. Even more Hardships. It breaks my heart that they were just kids who endured so much hate for absolutely no reason. Look at them now 5 time Grammy Nominees and talent beyond words.

Regarding the military issue, classical musicians and athletes who win specific types of medals/competitions such as a gold medal at the Olympics are eligible for exemptions. The law as it stands does not include provisions for popular artists such as actors and idol singers. What ARMYs are asking for is for the government to take into consideration all that BTS has done and accomplished in promoting their country and culture. They are the "unofficial " ambassadors of Seoul. They have been promoting tourism in Seoul for several years now. Just recently, BTS have been appointed as official ambassadors in the country's bid to hold the World Expo in Busan in 2030. They've addressed the UN General Assembly three times. These are just a few examples of what they have accomplished.

    • @chaandgabe

Loved your reaction to this - it was very human. Other folk have said that this story is the tip of the iceberg, and I know from ARMT friends who were ARMY from before debut, that it got really much worse even on the ground in Korea, and ARMY themselves were threatened and scared, but stayed ARMY despite it all. It's very very hard to understand, but one thing seems to be clearer and clearer: most of the opposition and hate are co-ordinated and funded by other music production companies.
I's like to add something to just one point made here by Xceleste (Rosan). When V shared his feelings about his grandmothers death he was very sad and tearful because she had raised him for most of his childhoos, because, the family being financially poor, both his parents had to work away from home. However, there was much more to it than just the fact that he had depended on her for everything as a child. That day was the 49th day since she died. In Korea the 49th day is very important : it is believed that at that point the soul can move on and be reborn. There are special ceremonies within the family when everyone gathers, wears special clothes, makes food offerings and prays. It is their last farewell - they will continue to visit the remains, whether a grave or a columbarium, and celebrate birthdays etc, just as we might visit our graves and talk to our loved ones, but the 49th day is deeply significant ... and V could not be there. No wonder he was so upset.
The fact that trolls chose this event to wish such evil is unbelievable. Many of them may not have known the meaning, but many were, I'm certain, Korean, and knew exactly what they were saying. There is no word for that other than evil. Again, I expect a lot of it was organised.

I think it’s cool and amazing that bts are holding themselves to a higher standard and I also think that it sucks that people are harder on them than any other idols. And that’s not an exaggeration. Even before they were big like they are now, there were many disgusting idols who have said/continue to say actually racist, misogynistic, and violent things in 2022 and received little to no long term backlash for it; compared to bts who still get whacked about things they said when they were like 19 when 6/7 of them are pushing 30. It is a good thing that bts did address the things they did wrong and/or change. I get pissed about them being treated badly by stan twitter bc bts HAVE changed from being knuckle headed and kinda ignorant at times. We all have been there. However in some peoples eyes, their idols never changed and won’t but they expect bts to be perfect. However, in a general sense, we should avoid saying people are “too sensitive” about systematic issues like misogyny bc that’s a real thing that affects women’s quality of life especially in Korea. If ppl are making choices that feed into hurting someone else then it should absolutely change what we’re doing. That’s not feeding into a narrative or changing for sensitive people. that’s just being a good human who values actual change more than pointing a finger at others. Bts have created a more welcoming community that way.
Also with the sajaegi thing, bts had to go to COURT over those allegations. They were found to be baseless of course, but actual court proceedings happened because of antis spreading rumors. They’ve also had to deal with threats over the internet that result in them having to speak with police about it. That’s why their company tells ARMY not to report stuff directly to police on behalf of the members, but to report it to the company so it doesn’t cause stressful police interviews for the boys over an issue they had no idea about. I’ve been on stan twitter for over 10 years, previously for 1D & then briefly for other artists and I have never seen the level of hate bts get IN MY LIFE towards another artist. It’s insane & so scary at times. They even get it from the government too sometimes. It feels sometimes like they really only have us rooting for them.

These guys have truly paid their dues. And then some. They're still dealing with this kind of BS to this day - there've been several incidents even since this video was made in the summer of 2021.
Regarding their mandatory military service it's still up in the air and it's honestly stifling their career at this point since Jin, being the oldest, has to enlist by the end of this year. They were brought up in parliament only a few days ago as well. To put it into perspective...despite huge companies like Samsung and Hyundai (BTS are endorsers for both btw 🤭) they alone *are* approximately 0.5 % of the South Korean national economy. FLEX! 😎
    Short facts:
    - V was practically raised by his grandmother and the reason he even shared the news of her passing was to ensure ARMY, who had noticed and expressed concern about his mental health, that he was ok but grieving.
    - Yes, the german radio host was eventually demoted.
    - We often joke that "Karma is an ARMY" because whenever they've been put down, they bounce back with a vengeance. 😈

    • @chaandgabe
      @chaandgabe  ปีที่แล้ว +3

Are you serous, so basically their career is on hold due to the uncertainty of the military service. It would break my heart to see Jin have to be away from the group. That is a major flex that their influence has brought so much monetary gain to the Korean economy. That's why it shouldn't be a question as to whether or not they should enlist. When those vile trolls spewed those hateful lies and words about his grandmother that made my blood boil. And good about the german host, that was ignorance at its finest and I would be even happier if they just had let him go all together. They will always bounce back with a vengeance, we will make sure of it. 💜

For some of them at least and definitely long term as a group. Basically we're talking up to 6 years of them being apart since it's approximately 1.5-2 years of service and with the 5 year age gap between Jin and Jungkook. Some of them can choose to go at the same time though, so... 🤷‍♀️
It's also worth noting that other kpop stars have been bullied and/or become depressed while serving and they've been filmed/photographed in the showers etc. ARMYs from all over the world are gonna rain hellfire on their South Korean "assetts" if anything happens to any of the seven members!

Thank you so much for this reaction. Honestly I'm so proud of our boys for being who they are in the face of such senseless hatred and ignorance. I wish I could say this video covered everything, but the hardships continue to this day. I watched this some time after becoming Army. Not long after that (this was some time last year), I opened Twitter only to see many horrific r!pe threats and jokes about eating disorders directed at Jimin. I'm not someone who is easily angered but I was absolutely furious and hurt and worried... It's one thing to hear about BTS facing hate, it's quite another to actually witness it... I know they're also angered and hurt by it, but they always persevere and it inspires me to do the same. In a vlive, Jin once said that he hopes their haters can listen to the song Epiphany, which says, "I'm the one I should love". Hatred and willful ignorance often stem from a lack of self-awareness and self-esteem. You can't fully know and love the people around you until you know and love yourself. BTS teaches me a lot about self-love these days and I'm slowly getting better at it 😌
