In case you haven't met the Hollars yet. This is a family that got fed up with living the American Dream, sold their house in California and went on a 46 state tour looking for a perfect place to buy and build a homestead so they can begin living life TOGETHER as a family. If you put some hot pepper flakes or a little cayenne in the chicken feed, each day, they should lay eggs all Winter. My chickens egg production doesn't go down too much when I put the pepper in their feed. My grandmother taught me this when I was very young. I'm a great grandmother now, and it still works. 😊
Justin I think you should have a monthly Hollar Family update . They are so much more relaxed and unconcerned when they are not trying to produce their own vids. And they know you will edit out the stuff that might not be their best.

nice to hear a shout-out to Primitive Technology! I love that channel, and I love this one as well. Why, oh why, don't I just buy 20 acres somewhere and do this myself? Well, I have a family that has to agree to do it, among other things. A piece of Americana that has almost been lost, and kudos to you folks for keeping it alive, and showing how it's done!

I found Ben and Meg through your channel. I love what they are doing. I follow both channels because I love what y'all are about. It's a life I've lived for 65 plus years so far. Also Ben and Meg are from about 400 miles south of where I live in Ca.

Surely I'm not the first!😊 That was an enjoyable visit with the Hollar family!! I think Ben and Meg have done an amazing job on their new farm no longer than they've been there! Those baby piglets are so adorable. Boy, mama pig sure didn't like you all making her babies squeal did she! She's a good and protective mama! Hope you all are enjoying your vacation! You timed it good too weatherwise. We're getting snow tonight across the mountain from Asheville in Tennessee where I live. Weather report said western NC would have snow tomorrow. We only got about an inch though, so hopefully Asheville won't get much either, it's just mainly real cold. Hope your little piglets stay good and warm nestled down in their hay!😊

I realize that you all wanted to be in the house before winter hit this year but I really believe that your willingness to adapt your plan, sticking together with your decisions and positive attitudes have been a key to the continuing success and forward movement of your homestead. Ben should consider sealing the floor that is in there and just laying the new floor over it. That would save a lot of labor.

Love Ben & Meg! We would have been starting our homesteads at about the same time if I hadn't had 2 family deaths to deal with here in Michigan. Much has been happening, none of it good but HOPE to get started in the spring. I know my homesteading adventure will be 10X slower than theirs.
