I have watched your videos for a long time. Being a relatively 'safe' artist, I bit the bullet and started a 2x3' drawing yesterday. That's not so much the scary part. I will finish and spray fixative tonight...painting tomorrow. Eesh. Thank you for inspiring me. I love how you have the finite detail mixed with the love of abstract. Brilliant. xo
Hello and thank you. For the shading/color I used oils mixed with extra linseed oil. I sprayed the drawing with KRYLON WORKABLE FIXATIF to prevent smudging. The fixatif also makes the surface of the canvas very smooth which makes it very easy to spread the paint. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching- Mike
Your paintings are so insperational.! I actually used to paint like landscape and stuff but, I never was fully satisfied...it kind of bored me. Anyways I saw your painting videos and you inspired me to learn how to draw.! I love drawing now. After I get to a place where im comfortable with my drawings I plan on painting again this time with acrylics and oil. Thank you
OMGosh ..... Amazing Love your painting .... Thank you for sharing ur talent .. this has emotionally affected me, bringing a hint of tears ... something in those eyes just capture me ..... Absolutely Beautiful !!
artists nowadays have their uniqueness ... i enjoy watching the video. . good job with the water drips and such a belief of completing a painting from the start...
Wow! I have a totally different way of painting. And I don't use oils yet. But now I have another moment, called "I'm done with my old self! Change EVERYTHING!!!", plus my current teacher makes me change my ways. He tells me to paint things I would never paint myself. It makes changing my style easier. So maybe I'll try your way some day soon. :) It's a really cool work.
I love the final result! I also utilize acrylic as background color base, or dark base of a detailed part of the painting. I gonna experiment more, thanks for shared!
I love your work dear! One of my favourite things to do is watch other artists work - it's very inspirational and also very informative:) (TheNecco from DA)
I love your style so much, your art is beautiful and expressive. You also make the videos very entertaining to watch. I'm new to painting and I've never thought about using a cloth to help with blending but you made it look so good that now I'm going to try that. :) I'm so glad I am able to learn from your videos!
this is my new favorite video of all time. Very interesting your subtractive/smudging paint technique. I've always struggled with just paint. my eyes identify light and shadow. I love the tight graphite line work combined with the very loose consistency and use of the paint. Reminds me of water color without leaving water marks. I'm guessing water color would also distort the preliminary image. and Was the lion in the background a blueprint for her expression? Very much awesome man. Love it!!!!!
I was mesmerized. Your style is wild, bold and the results are amazing. Seriously, I was almost breathless; what a ride. I am a new subscriber to your channel.
do u know what i thought this is stupid but OMG HOW I WAS WRONG YOU ARE A BRILLIANT ARTIST SOOOOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL SO CREATIVE YOUR TECTNEC SEREAL CONGRATULATION A REALLY LOVE YOUR WORK THANK U SO MUCH FOR SHEARING THIS KIND REGARDS DIANE
You are an amazing artist. Thats a beautiful, serene, powerful painting to me. With a hint of mystery or fantasy. Can u please explain how you was able to do your shading. Was it acrylic watered down? and how do u not get it to smudge your original base sketch? Commenters: songs First one was: The Vowels, Pt. 2 by Why? The second song is: The Greatest by Cat Power
@AmicusClothing Acrylic is water-based, so simply adding water makes it runny and more transparent :) You can even paint with them as you would watercolors, but it's important to have nice quality paints, so that the pigments don't disperse and look very spotty and ugly.
Are you using a workable fixative over the graphite drawing before you paint to avoid smearing when you do the washes? what brand or what are you using? Thanks so much for sharing these videos with us!
I'm really interested in using acrylics with oils on top like michael, I can't tell if the shading he's doing is with acrylics or oils and then washed with spirits or water :( Wish I knew!
I really love the paint washes and drips on this one. The color palette is very nice too. Were the drips done with really wet acrylics (and only the final details done in oils)? Or was the majority done in oils with galkyd or some other medium?
I almost skipped watching your video (skip the singing and desturbing musi) but I am an artist myself and I really enjoy seeing others work. I will have to compliment you on your art. You are really talented.
You are absolutelyfuckingamazing at what you're doing. Looking at your work gives me inspiration and makes me determined to work harder so one day I can become an amazing artist like you. Thank you for that. For giving me so much, and pushing me towards my goals.
What an unorthodox way to paint. Amazing, I would try to buy it from you if I would of had the money :) How much time did it take, if you ever read this?
Quite beautiful, it was utter magic watching this painting form. Glad you are back, you were missed.
Marie.

beautifull
Wow. You are a man after my own heart. I must has though, did you draw the picture first, then spray something on the graphite so that it won't smear?
Are you using a workable fixative over the graphite drawing before you paint to avoid smearing when you do the washes? what brand or what are you using?
