    Great video. You've made it clear that I need to rent the 12". Roughly $250 rental for 6" and $400 for 12" by me. Thanks

    I’m a homeowner and had the bright idea of buying one of these to take care of my wooded 2 acre home. I bought in used then sold it for more than I paid for it. It had the same Koehler 27 but worked way better than what you showed here. Not sure why. It would eat a 6 inch log without stopping at all. No idea why. Nowhere to put it, so I had to sell it. Also lot of work dragging the wood to the chipper.

      The knives on this unit I found out were super dull 😑

      I actually bought mine from a Vermeer dealer- it came in off a trade, and they serviced it before they delivered it, so I'm sure the blades on mine had been sharpened. Thats definitely the answer. Thanks for the reply.

      @@MichaelTheakston That's what I thought... that the chipper knives were really dull.

    It would be good for everyone to know that the chipper knives on that unit were really dull. I have a Vermeer BC625 chipper and it chips much faster than that.

    My Vermeer chipper has a 200 horsepower Cummins turbo diesel. But those chippers are fine for what they are meant for.

    Is the feed rate adjustable? It seemed like it was feeding quickly, bogging down, stopping the feed, then repeating that patter over and over. It seemed like it little lower feed rate would have been better.

    Pretty sure the knives were dull on this one- I owned a Vermeer 6" and when it started cutting this slow it was time for knives.

    We have one for our small chipper for our tree service and they are great units but that one seems like the belt is loose or over tight and dull blades thats why the auto feed kept coming on

    • @MichaelTheakston

      Brian Kirwan Blades were definitely dull, we rented one last week and it mowed through it no problem.

      If you get one I suggest using a proper sharpening service that uses CNC machines with coolant. The blades I have sharpened are mirror smooth and razor sharp. They will stay sharper longer due to edge integrity. Do not neglect sharpening the bed knife and setting the gap just right for the machine, it is crucial.

    Rented this chipper w/ the 27 hp motor for the day($180 in Colorado Springs) to chip about 40-50 ponderosa tops and a bunch of slash. Mostly about 4-5” dia with a few pieces closer to 6”. Overall no problems...this thing worked great. You do have to limb the pieces a good bit, especially if it’s dry and stiff. If the limbs were still green, they would bend nicely and go right through.

    • @brockjones1364

      I do not want any thing that cannot keep up with me. It is really nice when you can throw one big branch onto another and keep piggy backing them in or put a big arm load of brush on top of a branch as it is going in. You will find it much easier to justify the expense with the higher productivity.

    • @MichaelTheakston
      @MichaelTheakston  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say one that does at least 12", Anything over that I turn into firewood.

    • @brockjones1364
      @brockjones1364 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MichaelTheakston Yeah, I don't know what size branch it is but at some point they take up more room in the truck than if you just through a log in. It just depends on your niche and the size of your crew. You don't want to worry about how much room your using in an 18 foot dump with 6 guys on the payroll moving stuff like army ants. On crane jobs I like to have an 18" chipper, semi trailer and or dumpsters line up in a row.

      @@diastoleny so, do you just accumulate a bunch of shit and then do it all at once? I think you may have mentioned that in the vid, so ok. $200. Damn. just by typing $200, it gave me pause again. Damn, that is a lot of $$$. LOL. damn. I can't win!
      I think it is impossible to win at this thing we call life. Damn. In the end, we all lose the game on staying alvie, since we all die. Damn! this sucks!!! Damn.
