Home Depot protocol requires them to build it, and they usually keep them outside in the weather. I tried to buy one in a box so I could assemble myself. I found out from a wonderful store manager who called all nearby stores, which had them in stock. They all said the same thing that the company required them to assemble for display. They offered to sell me one with a discount but I declined. I ordered one online, but a glitch in their system returned the item before it was delivered. I called customer service and reordered with a discount for inconvenience.
That is really weird that they have to assemble them before sale, maybe some kind of safety thing. I could see things going really wrong really fast is someone didnt assemble it right.
@TheHippieGeeks it is the main reason I like to assemble myself. What if the employees were in a rush and assembled it wrong? The store manager mentioned storage space, but I believe the product being in boxes is more space-saving as they're stackable. I do know that Champion take their packaging seriously as I have several equipment from them. Their customer service is pretty good.
It is super easy to start. I'm a girl and usually just one pull and it's running. Check your instructions or check the oil level. It will not start if the oil is low.
Honestly, at this point I am positive that this unit is considerably older than the folks that sold it to me said it was, and it has been treated pretty badly over its lifetime. I have spent some time getting it back in better shape since this video, and it is running and starting better now. Moral of the story ... a lot of folks on Marketplace are lying =)
@TheHippieGeeks People do that unfortunately. It is not the most user friendly machine, very temperamental about what you feed it that's for sure. I'm learning the hard way about jamming it up. Thought I had that figured out, but no. Good luck to you. I hope it gives you many good years of chipping.
Yeah, when this thing gets jammed it can be a real pain to get it all working again. I have only had to take it apart twice because of a jam, and have gotten a lot more careful with what I put into it these days to try to avoid the jam.
If it's anywhere near as good as my Champion 3200 psi pressure washer then I'd say it's most certainly worth the money. I've had that thing for about 5 years now and it always starts on the first crank.
This one is definitely older than the folks that sold it to me said it was, which I pretty much knew at the time. After changing the plugs and oil and cleaning this thing up some it is definitely starting better than it did in this video.
Those guidelines are to cover their ass. There is no way in the real world that you can use the front 3" port very often, unless you somehow have perfectly straight brush, which I do not =)
It is actually still going strong and just did another full day of work =) The muffler blew itself in half a little while back, but other than that it is still fine =)
This is the first piece of their equipment that I have used, and while it is not the best it has definitely put the work in so far with the amount of brush on the property that we have needed to clean up =)
I think you and I are the sole humans in this comment section. 99% bots. With that said, I'm getting ready to fire up my new Champion chipper this afternoon. Will see how it works.

I've retired my chop saw. Bought and restored a vintage 1950's DeWalt radial arm saw and it puts my old chop saw to shame, lol.
Man, I have looked at some of those old radial arm saws, and if I ever have the space again I may pick one up as well =)

It's at Home Depot for $700. Oroville, CA
I did not see anything going into the branch part, nothing close to 3 inches.
Turned out great ⭐️
