    The kid has the bowling pin probably because he had a birthday party at a bowling alley. It's common for bowling alleys to let the kid take a pin home for their birthday. I know because I got one that way.

      Lol my great aunt lives right across from the sematary. Sometimes my aunt couldn't get sleep when they were filming it. Other times she would go outside and watch them film it. They actually blew up some of the houses during the film.

    Add another sin: the shoulder patches the Ohio deputies are wearing did not exist in 1979. They didn't come out until the mid 90's. Prior to that, all Sheriff's & their deputies (in Ohio, all county Sheriff's wear the same uniform. They're the de facto state police) wore pizza slice shaped patches with a star in the middle.

    I just remember the commercials going on about how this was new and original and unlike any other sci-fi you've seen before. Then I saw it and was like "da fuck?" It would be easy to feel sympathy for the giant monster if it was only raiding the nearby farms, living off stolen cows and sheep. But you can't make the alien out to be the poor innocent victim after it murders and eats like half the people in the town. Plus, there's parts where they are explaining how movies are filmed, then it comes back to show you those exact circumstances later, which totally takes you out of the movie. Surprised that wasn't sinned.

    • @-mylittleburger-
      @-mylittleburger- 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +MP197742 Exactly, that's the one thing I greatly disliked about the movie. Alien kills many people that had nothing really to do with it being contained in the first place, and it still gets written off as being the victim/etc. I probably would have liked it more if it would have gotten shot at the end (seems like its some more cliche creature/alien kills lots of innocent people but is still nice thing).

      An alien can not murder people.

    • @dragonsandsuch
      @dragonsandsuch 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +MP197742 That was my biggest problem with the movie as well. How is this a "nice" alien when it's killing so many people in town that had nothing to do with its capture. I would have preferred a putting it down, but maybe feeling bad about it because they drove it to be a killer.

    • @spaghettiagain3914
      @spaghettiagain3914 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +MP197742 Well lets put you in a different situation then. Imagine you crash on an alien planet full of creatures that look nothing like you, trap you in a weird facility, and torture you. You escape and discover their flesh is edible to you, and the only sustainable food source in the area. So you decide to eat them as food and it really is nothing like cannibalism because they look nothing like you. For all you know they are barley intelligent. Does that make you the bad guy in that scenario?

    • @MP197742
      @MP197742 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      PugGamer It's not the case though that "for all you know, they are barely intelligent." It was established that it had communicated with people through telepathy. In fact, that was what kicked off the story, that one human sacrificed his life to try to free the alien by derailing the train because he had exchanged thoughts and emotions with the alien. The alien's reaction then when freed was to go out and eat a bunch of humans that had nothing to do with capturing or hurting it. And if it could eat humans, which it knew were intelligent, then it could have assessed the intelligence of cows/pigs/horses the same way and lived off of them. They had to be feeding it something while it was in captivity.

  • @dankwarmouse6248

    I heard that the reason the trainwreck is so insanely over the top is that it was supposed to be representative of the way the kids interpreted it and how they'd describe it. Kind of puts the rest of the movie in perspective as well.

    Also they explain that the teacher kept a secret locker where he put his stuff on the outside of the school they even bring up this conversation in the movie when one of the characters say that the military has probably been there and then they say that they wouldn’t have checked the locker place (whatever it is)

    Super 8 turns 10 today!
    I remember seeing it with my sister
    J.J. Abrams did a really good job with Steven Spielberg making a love letter to film, childhood and 1980s adventures
    Lots of nods to E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind but mostly Cloverfield
    The anxieties of growing up, the heartache of young love, the sorrow of broken families, and the wonder of what’s lurking out there in the night sky are core tenets straight out of the Spielberg playbook
    Also paved the way for the pop culture trend from Stranger Things to IT
    These characters are given true development
    The plot is a bit shaky and some of the melodrama could've been cut down
    But the train crash is the best set piece in the whole film
    With the giant monster I like how a lot of it is kept a mystery and you actually sympathize with it as a result of being mistreated by humanity
    Elle Fanning can act
    It's cool too that this event brings a father and son closer together still rising from a tragedy
    An example of good ol fashioned summer popcorn entertainment
    Abrams made it as a response to iconic movies making his own mythos

    The entire train crash is ridicolous.
    A car parked on the railway caused the whole train to derail and wagons weighting dozens of tones to fly around like candy bars. Not to mention the driver inside that very car survived.
    There are tons of sins more. Bad movie imo.

    1'09" this sin is the coldest one in the bunch. Not only does the kid love explosions, but he also got the same haircut and everything.

    At the start, CS, didnt you notice the zombie kid's hair in the first shot is over his right "eye" and next scene he's in, the hair is swept back so we can see both of the "eyes".
