Cheers Tom, you always choose important subject to talk about in the UK. Yes in the UK, people usually hear the words "sorry, thanks, cheers, excuse me, pardon " even people use them with the bus driver. Thanks again and Merry Christmas!
Mr. Tom Rees! Thankyou for bringing up this subject. I hope that you would make many more episodes of similar subject! I do admire the courtesy of the Europeans.
I wish more people were considerate about offering seats to those more in need on public transport. Nice tips on polite ways to speak to others. Hope you had a lovely Christmas
Initially I was answering "fine, thanks", or similar, to all the "how are you" questions. But then I had the impression that it was not said for asking something, but as some sort of salutation. So sometimes I simply answer "hello". Does that make sense?
Thanks for this video Tom! Offering your seat to those less able than you should be something natural, unfortunately, being rude or not being aware of it is a problem in many places around the world. This video could be use to make younger Esl students realize the importance of being polite no matter where they are. Here in Argentina, though many people offer their seat, there are also lots who don't.
Hey Tom! Could you make a video about the accents on Sherlock (Like the Conservative RP of Mycroft, Modern RP of Sherlock, Estuary of John Watson, Cockney of Lestrade etc)? I feel like there's a lot of stuff that you could explore in depth with that show, potentially making a multipart video!
Hi Tom, I want to thank you for the great contribution you make from your channel, I am learning English watching your classes. Greetings from Argentina and have a happy new year :)
It is really hard NOT to answer truthfully when it comes to "How are you?" . I have heard that answering with a negative response ( "Not good" ) is seen a bit rude but I.. Do not understand why anyone would ask how you are if they are not ready to hear how you really are? I understand the basic rule of 'Do not start a lecture' is a good one.. But I never understood why it always has to be "Fine"
At least in the US we're would ask "You don't look well, are you OK?", "Is everything alright?" "Do you need help? May I get you anything?" It's also about tone and emphasis of "alright" or "OK". It is more subtle than "How are you" greeting.
In the US "poor thing" denotes more condensation than consern. You have to be careful with that as Americans use a lot is sarcasm and that one is generally sarcastic. Especially when said in a "baby voice" like the tone used to talk to babies and puppies.
How am I? Mainly (and I would say spontaneously) polite, gentle and kind 😇 (even with my bad English! 😊) but, sometimes, when it's necessary and inevitable I can also be rude 😈........even with my bad English 😁 Thanks🌷and Happy New Year 🎆 our dear Chief Dreamer.
Love u, Tom! Great Chanel, keep going!
