I remember when this was going on, it’s too bad they didn’t succeed. In fact, it’s only gotten steadily worse since then. In the 90s, concert tickets were around $25, which seemed like a lot at the time, but I remember at the time feeling like I was going to a concert every couple of weeks. One weekend, I went to three separate concerts. I remember when I paid $50 to a scalper outside the venue to see Radiohead on their OK Computer tour. I couldn’t believe I was spending that much, I was actually embarrassed about it. But now, the last concert tickets I bought were $200 a piece. With fees, it was just shy of $500 for two. If it wasn’t for Nick Cave and Warren Ellis, whose music literally saved my life during the pandemic, I couldn’t imagine paying so much. Of all the bands I would love to see, there are only a couple maybe that I imagine paying $200 for. Live music has become a luxury that most people just can’t afford anymore, and that’s a real shame.
It would've been great if Pearl Jam won their battle against Ticketmaster. The extra fees like "convenience" charges are total bullshit. What convenience?
You are so right. I remember watching green day for $15. About 8 years ago I bought rolling stones tickets for my parents which were $150 each. Unbelievable expensive for me at that time but super cheap nowadays... I wanted to see the foo fighters a few years ago but I refused to pay that much...
I live in Toronto, Ontario, and went to a downtown university in the 90s. While $30 seemed like a lot for a university student, it was manageable as I had a part-time job. Often right after class, my friends and I were able to walk over to various venues to see concerts, plays, musicals, ballets, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Blue Jays games, movies etc. I can't to any of that anymore on a full-time income!
@@dunceandco Because even they don’t have enough power over the system by then, even Taylor Swift nowadays would struggle to fight a monopoly like Ticketmaster and Live Nation without significant government involvement.
We need to unite as consumers and boycott or the government needs to step in and enforce anti trust laws and discontinue monopolizing the venue ticket industry
Sucks because if it mattered to the fans or public that much they would have boycotted ticket master into either bankruptcy or until they changed their prices.
Kudos to Pearl Jam for trying to step up and do something at the time Artists need to revisit this, people need to stop buying tickets, it's getting out of hand
Crazy to think Pearl Jam were fighting this fight back then. Now the average ticket cost is around $250 through Ticketmaster/ AXS even if the listed price is $50 bucks.
Man, I wish their service fees were less than $5 now! One RHCP ticket I bought in August was like $470 because Ticketmaster added on nearly $90 in fees 😕 yeah, the ticket was expensive either way, but those fees really kill it sometimes
so do kids nowadays easily have 100+ bucks for a pearl jam ticket on hand? I sure don't. They must have changed their mind about this in the last 25 years.

Ticketmaster was charging between $1,400-$2,000 a ticket on PJ’s 2022 tour.
But pearl jam sold out

Not really. For the new tour in Europe they asking for 175 euros for a ticket. Pretty much greed became old Eddie.
