  • In this video I show you how to find a leak and replace the hose on a electric hydraulic top system in a Volkswagen Cabrio.
    The fluid you need is Pentosin CH 11S, I purchased it at advance auto parts.
    Here is where I bought the hose www.cabriolet-roof-hoses.com/

      There's a company online (somewhere in the south) that offers a rebuild service for the cylinders...

    Very helpful video, really useful when sorting out my split hose. Links were great as well, actually worked! All I would add is I found it much easier to install the new hose end into the pump body by taking the pump off. The securing screw is v.small and all too easy to cross-thread, particularly with the HEL hoses that are slightly different to the original. Re-filling the reservoir is also a pain, I eventually used a small syringe with a very thin plastic pipe attached to it, there must be an easier way but I couldn't find one.... Cheers!

    Thanks for the video my cabrio passenger side went last year and I just got to buying my hoses and finally got them shipped I expected to have two hoses because the two hoses on the cylinder is this an issue I then thought maybe there is just one but then you said there is two now in hoping I wont have any issue

    Thanks very much! I did my 4 hoses from HEL (saved thousands over VW oem) a year or two ago but then I noticed I am losing a bit of fluid from the cylinder and quite a bit from the pump. VW sells a 'pump service kit' for $50 or so still that contains the gaskets and the plastic reservoir cover for the pump. Folks doing work on that should use the Bentley or VAG torque instructions, as I hear it's very easy to ruin the cover when tightening the bolts. In general on German cars, the torque numbers should be followed on every tightened thing!

    I wanted to tell you I have been searching for an easy straightforward explanation and demonstration on how to fix a hydraulic leak for top. it is exactly what is wrong with my 2002 cabrio, hydraulic shoots out around between driver door and back tire. I will immediately be using your fantastic video on this procedure. It again was straightforward, answered all my questions and concerns and just thank you thank you thank you!!!
    I also have issue with auto door locks and windows, this seems to be a common problem at least in the 2002 cabrio around 80-100k range. If you have any info on this problem i would love to hear/see it. Last think i just out of nowhere have a fairly fast running/large leak somewhere in my coolant hose? or maybe a fixture or connector? Im not well versed at fixing cars but with good information/demonstrations I have been able to fix many problems that the mechanic as good and fair as he is would have cost a small fortune. Sorry such a long comment. THanks again from the bottom of my heart, great video keep it up on any subject you do a great job at editing, information and getting to the point (unlike my rambling here!haha). bye take care and keep on YouTubing I like and subscribe! What issue are you having with the lock and windows? I know mine sometimes I have to press the window switch multiple times to make it go down. the passenger one goes down then starts coming up or goes up and comes down by itself. I don't have problems with locks though.
      I had a problem with mine leaking coolant also, it turned out to be the coolant flange. Its where coolant goes to the engine block. It is located on the drivers side of the engine toward the top.

    I have a 2002 vw cabrio. Hel hose just came in the mail from England. Sent it to me registered mail. I don't know why. but, I just got done installing the short drivers side hydraulic line. No mention on that brass valve on pump assembly here or anywhere. So I wasn't' sure to lock it or open it to fill it or bleed it. I think you have to close it in order to allow the fluid to pump to the hydraulic cylinders. Opening it up let air in, I think. I heard a sucking sound opening up the brass valve, so keep it closed under normal operation. Also I had another surprise, the electrical plug just before the motor was dirty. The motor wouldn't work until I plugged it in and out a few times. bad connection? Anyway so far so good. I got the top to work. Time will tell if there is other problems. I think this cars top had not been working for quite some time. Also, the hydraulic coupling is a tight fitting thread class so it won't thread on by hand, you must use a wrench. Fluid fill was a pain, you might want to use a syringe or a very small funnel. My funnel was to big and made for a messy filling.

    Luis, I got the same kind of leak as over 3 years now at the left side hydraulic cylinder. Previously, the left pair of hoses were exchanged and a sealant was also used between the cilinder connections and the hoses ends, which was a sliding connection (not threaded) with a clips. Now it's starting to leak again. Any suggestion how to permanently fix this? I'm really not happy with the kind of "loose" connection between the hose and the cylinder. But I can't find the original manufacturer of those cylinders, to check the original details of construction and use of those cylinders. Anny suggestion, please give me some feedback.

    • @CentralFLCars

      you would either have to remove a hose and let it come out from there or you can try putting a straw in the fill hole and slowly take it out from there.

    • @cawag98
      @cawag98 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CentralFLCars Also a syringe with needle (laugh laugh, I know) works for removal. You can use the syringe without the needle for adding more or carefully somehow adding with straw or hose.

    hi, my 2001 cabrio electric oil is low, how do I top up oil and what type of oil do I use

    • @CentralFLCars
      @CentralFLCars  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the fluid is Pentosin CH 11S and you have to use a straw or small hose and put it in little by little. if its low there may be a chance that is leaking so keep and eye on it after topping it off.

    My 1999 Cabrio's top was working fine until today when I went to put it back up due to the rain we were going to get. It did NOT go up. I could hear the motor running but nothing. The oil is between the Max/Min. I plan to see if there is a leak. I let the car sit for 4 years and just got many repairs done. Let's say there is no leak, what would another reason the top won't go up or down?

    • @CentralFLCars
      @CentralFLCars  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you hear the pump and there is no fluid leaking from anywhere the only other thing i could think of is there being air in the system

    • @CentralFLCars
      @CentralFLCars  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it is not recommended if your automatic pump is working. If it is not working how i did it was by unplugging the pump (not really necessary) and removing the fill screw. I kept the screw in the center console so I wouldn't loose it. After that doing it manually should be easier.

      Thanks, I missed that. So you remove the filling screw and move the roof 3..4 times before you screw in the filling screw again. I've already read that. Did that work for you? What if you only opened the valve to release the pressure because you only had to manually close the roof once? Do you have to open the filling screw too, or is it enough to leave the valve open for 3..4 times? My roof had a problem with the sensors, so the computer didn't know whether it was open or closed. However, after 4 hours I was able to close it with the motor as normal, but I would like to know what you have to do if you have to close it by hand, if it happens again,so that nothing breaks.
