I'll try to do some more research on this, and as I mentioned my pure intention is to only fix this PS5 so we can get it back up and running. As always, thank you to anyone who assisted this in the livestream, I hope you enjoyed the video 😁😁
did you put the newest digital PlayStation bios on there? I mean like the ones that have the removeable disc drive as that may have allowed you to re-pair the drive to the PlayStation as it thinks its a digital with a removeable disc drive and then pairs and allows the drive to work?
I’m wondering if this has been included in the new updates since the PS5 Slim models were released, as they allow the disc drive to be removed and reattached.
I didn't pay much attention, but I deduce that maybe modifying he BIOS into a digital version gives the PS5 what it needs to boot, and then reinstalling the software corrects what the console considers to be an "error" thus turning it back into a Disc edition console.
Hey Joey, you should buy an HDMI splitter so that you can show us everything that is going on without deactivating HDCP, you can record recovery mode etc
Well it didn’t make a lot of sense to me Joey, but well done for not giving up 😀👍 One thing you might consider when chasing a short … removing a cap to one side and checking if the short has gone is good, but if you are going to return the cap before checking the next then please check it out of circuit or that one time in a hundred where a couple of caps have blown will confuse you … I know it did me! 😀 Keep up the great work 👍💯
Im new in the tech world and I find this work fascinating. Do you have a video going over the kit and tools you use? or would you be willing to make one? Love the video man.
I wonder if the original bios file you put on it has the bios for the drive intact ... The digital bios might be like the first part of the biosand common between all ps5 and the disc bios just has the drive bios after that common bios. So by flashing the original and then the digital bios, you ended up with a fully functional disc bios ...
Crazy... Amazing...Dont know what to say. Good job, love your videos and please keep them coming. One of a kind so Sally should give you some nice profit for this one. Have a good day.... PEACE
Wah, I'm as shocked as you are! Interesting that the disc drive works even after bios modification. But ofcourse, the disc drive came with the console. So the paired data exists! But I'd like to try this on a complete donor bluray drive. Also since the ps5 slim and pro can now pair with the bluray, maybe it's a feature Sony added with new higher firmwares (to be tested). That would be awesome if it's the case.
I personally like the hyper-tough screwdriver set that you can get from Walmart, but only if you can find the green one because the red one kind of sucks.
Cant they do uart without soldering? i remember when i used to RGH xbox's, when i needed to read some data i would just hold some pins i had against some pads and it done the job to quickly read what i needed without bothering to solder to them
this might be a great help with repair of disk models, however if you using parts from donor boards they might have needed to be updated to a certain version before this repair could be viable for disk model bios chip repair and wont work with older donor boards with out this certain update
I think it’s the same as ps5 pro. It’s comes to you as digital. You can buy drive and as soon you connect disc drive it’s getting synchronized and it works.
I bet it has to do with the new software and slims. It never worked before the slim models with the removable drives. It must be applying it to the older models.
Maybe the DVD drive key is stored elsewhere as well? so the console maybe went through the following process. 1. booted via digital bios, it then detected a DVD drive. It then asked for the DVD key and matched it against a database stored elsewhere on the console (like a system partition that stores the dashboard). Keys matched so it flashed the bios with disc edition bios. you said "03" indicates digital edition. I'm sure the PS5 could alter one tiny part of the bios. Could you not take the bios back off and get the data off and see if it has the Digital 03 tag still.
Can you try a known working PS5 Disc edition, put a Digital BIOS on it and then reflash it? It might just patch the BIOS chip if you got a disc drive in it to restore it to an OG Bios?
It would be good to see if you could add the components to a digital board for a disc drive and add the disc drive .. update and see if it can turn a digital into a disc console
On previous live stream didnt people metion about changing the bios file from digital to disc, though im thinking if the drive matches the console and it detects that it may update the bios
lol if the marry thing is gone I’m going to be laughing my ass off since you got that ps5 at one point that they lost the bios for the disc drive that you had to convert to a digital haha

Amazingly quick turnaround on that edit from today’s livestream.
Finding this out could be a game changer for the repair community.

Could well be the answer
Wondering on the same
Currently only have disc edition ps5's, but I will try to swap two disc drives tomorrow. If it will read discs then the marry is not a thing anymore?!
Exactly where my head went! Great shout.
That would be wicked if it is the case and if they can do it for ps5 can they do it with PS4
Just had surgery this morning I’m in hospital for 5 nights, thanks for the upload to keep me entertained Jowey!
Well, that was a quick edit! Amazing job, Joey! 🎉
great getting this out so quick
It's probably an ABDOLSUTE mess, but hopefully it makes sense 😊

New digital ps5 can add a drive later - all you need is online for pairing one time - you can swap between ps5/pro and it verifies online no issues

that bios may be they key to making digital to disk.
Miracles tend to happen when Joey does tech, maybe he should start a channel!
Joey, it's wizard. Sorry I had to run. Congrats m8! Way to stick with it. Great job!

@@desmanhope5099 check out his video named “The equipment I use to repair electronics”
Great video, I have enjoyed it very much! Thank you, Joey!
Speechless

Would be nice to compare file sizes between the old BIOS and the digital one.
Nop, this works because of the update, since know you can use drive on digital consoles.

Be interesting to pull the bios data back off now and compare with what you flashed, see if anything has happened.
Well holy moly 😮 probably a result of the ps5 slim having a removable drive now it just works this is going to save so many drives from going to waste

thats what im thinking, would be great if thats the case as its a great workaround to help repair disc editions
Blimey just call him superman, that was one quick edit

You likely could with some kind of jig with pogo pins

Please leave some feedback for the seller Joey! Keep us safe.
17:22 why is there an X on the replacement southbridge?
I would assume something was on top of it in storage. Doesn't seem like an intentional mark
It’s from the chip holder he uses for reballing the chip. Leaves marks from the flux.
@ I have not seen his chip holder making those marks in previous videos
Sony did a major major update on all the digital bios so they could allow to use this drives now
I bet it has to do with the new software and slims. It never worked before the slim models with the removable drives. It must be applying it to the older models.
They sell adon discdrives. So maybe in an update you now can use a digital bios and still use a discdrive.
where do i go to learn how to do this type of stuff? im not sure what this type of repair would be called
Why did you not want to show it?? 8:19

Get HDMI spliter i use one with 5 ports and is amazing
Where is the coder?

Great video Joey, can I ask a question? Are Nintendo switches region locked?
They aren’t
The only Region Locked Nintendo Switch is China, you cannot play Chinese games on any other worldwide consoles and vice versa.
Tronix Fix tried to do something similar but it didn't work
Where do you get your bios files?
If you unplug disc drive and put ps5 into safe mode and reinstall firmware does it work? 😮
lol if the marry thing is gone I’m going to be laughing my ass off since you got that ps5 at one point that they lost the bios for the disc drive that you had to convert to a digital haha
Also Joey please take that digital bios back off copy it save it I think it may be asked for a few times 😂😂
Bro the live stream just ended. Give yourself a break 😅
Quelle surprise..... whatever next
world's greatest discoveries: ps5 reads discs
in this case a digital only ps5 reads discs
