In today's football boots Tech Talk, JayMike goes over why lightweight speed boots WON'T make you faster - and why they actually still might do something for how fast you feel, how fast you can run and how well you play. The big brands such as Nike, adidas and PUMA have told the story of how lighter speed boots will make you run faster, but in reality, those extra grams you save won't make a difference in itself, and in today's Unisport Tech Talk video, JayMike will tell you why things like lockdown, a stiff outsole and aggressive stud shape are much more important when it comes to speed and running faster than low weight in itself.

It's more important to have a pair of boots that fits you well with good lockdown. That will actually affect your speed because a lose or uncomfortable boot will interrupt your running.

Yeah, a loose toe box can ruin your game, also you may consider the shape of your feet, I’m narrow footed and could not adapt to the Nike tiempo, had to go with the mercurials
As someone who's had a variety of well and poorly and well fitting shoes mixed with AG and FG boots on, well, AG and FG surfaces, the weight doesn't even come to mind. I'm pretty sure wearing shinpads adds more weight to my shoes than a good pair of Tiempos vs a speed boot.
The stud pattern is gonna be huge for how fast you can step off and run depending on the surface. I switched from the cheapest pair of Tiempo 7s to the Legacy 2s (takedown model of 6) and the traction from the AG-pro plate gives me a lot more grip, for better or worse
I remember switching from copas to the first Gen adizeros. The copas were like bricks in the rain and it did affect me mentally. The adizeros felt significantly better when accelerating even on a field that was rained on maybe a day beforehand.
I personally never really understood the obsession over getting the lightest boots possible. As you said, if you're heavy off the pitch you're going to be heavy on the pitch, regardless of how light your boots are. The same applies if you're just not fast - light boots won't change anything. But as you say, if it helps you feel a little more confident, then why not? I just hate when people (especially young players) get fooled into believing nonsense and then cough up a lot of money for something that is really just a silly gimmick. Train hard, find a boot that fits well, and you'll play well.

I agree with you. When I first wore my first mercurial after having worn t90 laser, I just want to say I wasn't aware of the mercurial brand but bought it because of the orange colourway ( MV IV ). I immediately noticed it made me go faster - and I connected it because of the traction system efficient in the studs. That's why I don't understand mercurial futsal shoes

They do actually, because if they are lighter and have better stud pattern the make you run more on your toes, which actually makes you faster

Weight of the boots does not matter, you will never be faster in a lighter football boot. You will not control or pass the ball better in control boots either

I don’t think lightweight boots will necessarily make you faster, but heavier footwear will make you slower. Know what I mean? Like if I wear baseball cleats or blundstones I’ll be slower than if I were wearing sneakers

Excuses me ,I think the lightweight boots are better because when we play for hour and something hang to our foot heavy then its make a difference.
I mean playing an hour in a heavy weight boot and a lightweight boot then the lightweight boots are feel more comfortable then the heavyweight boots.
