    Hello, I'm glad I found this channel. I love koi and I've been interested in them since I was 8, I'm 15 now and I'm very happy that I found this channel :) I had my first koi when I was 9, there were 6 of them who lived in my grandparents' garden pond. At that time, my grandparents still had a very small pond, which is why my grandfather, my uncle, my cousin and I built a larger pond. When we finished all the koi were gone, by gone I don't mean dead, they were just Lost. To this day I don't know what happened to them, it was winter so all the koi were at the bottom of the pond we thought, my entire familiy dont know what happened to them. We always had a grid and a net over the pond. I don't know why I wrote this long text but I just wanted to share my experience. That's 6 years ago now we have a big pond and new koi, some of them are over 70cm tall.
    i just wanted to say i love your channel and think it's cool how much work you put into the channel.

      you sure they didn't just die and your family told you they didn't know what happened to them? like most parents do when a pet dies they lie and say stuff like they moved away

    Of course another great video. I am doing lots of research before I put a koi pond on my 3 acre ranch.
    I have so many questions about what type of koi pond I should build.
    A aquascape pond or a concrete pond?
    What’s the best filtration for koi?
    What are the must have’s and the have nots?

    • @TheKoiPartner
      @TheKoiPartner  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The design you should do what you like. I would do a concrete pond. Aquascaped ponds with natural filters (rocks etc) isn’t a good environment to keep koi. Must haves are bottom drains, a good drum filter and ofcourse proper build of the pond

    • @dpistone10
      @dpistone10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheKoiPartnerthanks for your reply. Do you have any videos that highlight good filtration systems that I should consider?
      So many choices but I only want the very best and do not want to spend money on things I will regret later on. I would love to see you make a video with the top filtration systems the top hobbyist have used. So many people have spent money on things they regret later on and then they tear them down and start over with different systems. I want to do it right the first time without any regrets. If you have any videos that could guide me please send me the links. Either your videos or someone else’s. I love learning and will spend hundreds of hours on research before I take the plunge. I’ll do this right the first time. Room for me is not a problem. I have three acres here in my ranch and have lots of room to do what ever I want or need too. I just need a great design to copy from when it comes to filtration systems.

    I have a simple question : why don't the breeders acclimate the kois when transferring from the mud pond to the tank behind the truck? I'd imagine the water chemistry and temperature from the mudpond is vastly different compared to the water in the tank.

    • @rolleone6171
      @rolleone6171 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      It’s the same water temperature by the time they net the fish out the water

    • @TheKoiPartner
      @TheKoiPartner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi Vita, its almost the same temperature 😊 thanks for the good question ❤

    • @gejoei7812
      @gejoei7812 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is not absolutely necessary to look for an exact same temperature if the difference is not more than 4 degrees Celsius. You don't have to pay attention to adjusting the chemistry of the water either, this is often overrated. Because the stress that the fish have while they are slowly adapting to other values is worse for the koi than if you immediately move them from one water to another and they calm down more quickly. Therefore, never let the bag with the fish swim in the pond first, but place the koi in the pond as soon as they arrive.

    I know years past when calling the babies, they would let them die, I like that you said they would sell the unwanted fish to other Koi lovers or owners...... A koi is very special not many can afford them, my koi came from Japan out of 20 fish I might have 8 left out of 9 years, I still like to watch them daily...Thank you for bringing the special koi in videos to the world, it's a special rarity you have as in a gift, you bring to all of us who love the koi as well.

    In Hawaii I played with raising Koi in a small fish pond. They got to several that were 2-3 pounds. Then I got bored with them and put a sign in my front yard FREE KOI. One homeless lady said she would like some but did’t know how to prepare them🥴 I finally gave them to a Buddhist monk for his pond
