The soap that they washed away in the sink at the end was the mold of the BGA comb. Miklo was behind the killing of Montana. He set every thing up. That’s why I was a lil confused when u said it had useless scenes. This movie didn’t waste any scenes imo. Everything mattered. It’s one of the best 3hr movies I’ve ever seen.

It took me 10years to realize that since this came out when I was 7years old, moral of the story anyone in a gang is expendable 🫠 and you don’t get great benefits as a career. Great movie 🎥 to teach kids to stay away from gangs.

According to Danny Trejo, they were suppose to make a part 2. They signed a contract for two movies but it never got made. This movie was released in theaters but was quickly pulled as it was during the Rodney King riots. It became a cult classic. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time.
This was movie was released in 93 so after the riots. It was stupid for them to pull it over those riots and the two had nothing to do with each other.

That's great to hear that there are places in LA where old small businesses are still around. I always hear about how mom and pop shops have to close due to either rising crime or rent increases.

A lot of the filming locations are still there and recognizable.
I’ve watched this movie like 50 times over the last 30 years… and i always find something new… like how Miklo’s face when he meets Paco after the hit has dark shadows… reminiscent of a skull, or even Vito Corleone, since he was now the boss.
In some takes he looks like Joe pegleg Morgan, the real miklo
Popeye was played by Carlos Carrasco who is very intelligent and educated. He received an acting scholarship for a college in Missouri and also studied in Illinois and Michigan. After receiving his Masters in Speech, he would later receive a doctorate degree. Carrasco is still acting and is actively involved in the Latino community.

The part were Miklo says he didn't want to go to the hospital was legit. That big hospital in the background was famous for a TV show called general hospital. It's located in East Los Angeles and is very known for not caring for it's locals "Mexicans" mainly gang members. They would let a lot of them die of their wounds.
One thing about Montana and Miklo's last talk is that you see the look of sadness on Miklo's face when Montana mentions his daughter. Miklo didn't know that when he ordered the hit. Such a great catch on multiple viewings
Why did Miklo order the hit on Montana though, that part I'm not sure of. Was it because Montana was saying no to La Onda getting involved in the drug trade and waging war with the BGA?

He already knew about his daughter though he mentioned it earlier in the movie when he was convincing miklo to get educated
Bonafide grabbed that old guys rib cage and was lifting up on it... Miklo and Magic in that last scene had a mold of Bonafides comb/pick on bars of soap.
The prison scenes were actually shot inside of San Quentin State Prison. Many of the men you see are not actors but actual inmates of the prison.
I went to la last year and I went to 5puntos and I visited el pino it was a day I would never forget. I love this movie
I did that in late 2022 and a few weeks back for the 30th anniversary meet and greet at CSULA. So awesome.
Danny Trejo, the man with handle bar mustache and tattoo of a woman, is now a pretty famous actor. He's in a lot of movies. He's also an ex-con who had spent time here at San Quentin prison.

Prison in the 1970s-1990s was exactly how it was in the movie.
Today its a lot different. Some Prisons dont allow weights or gym equipment. They also are more strict today with a lot of other things thab back then.
I’m full blooded Latino live in El Paso, Texas literally across from us is Mexico and I saw this movie as a teen and has brought so much pride in me as Mexican. Top 5 of all-time for me.
I got you, but, being a full blooded Latino, it'd be the US view of it. Being a Latino is about the culture. Not talking about you, I saw cases of people born & raised in the US and they could have parents that their families came from some Latin American country, but they just were your average US citizen in the sense of culture. Latin America has people from probably all the parts of the world living in it, migration always happened, since colonial times and later.
During the industrial era, the American dream it wasn't only migrating to the US, if not to all the continent of America, because most countries were thriving in those years or they had jobs and places like Europe weren't doing well. Others promoted migration mainly from Europe, because of the eurocentrism of the region and their leaders. Corruption and bad planning took all that potential.
Where I live there were migrations from Germany, Japan and Croatia for the most part, from colonial times, Spanish, Portuguese, the indigenous people and African descendants. People meets each other, they form families, it's that simple. During school, I could have classmates of any looks, I had friends of different looks. The way it works in different parts of Latin America.
Blood in Blood out is well liked in Latin America by those who watch it, because it represents the region in the sense of culture and lifestyle.
Remember that line of Miklo "The crossroads of the world. A Latino world!" In short, that says what I said above. Miklo's character represents Latin America well. Real life guy that inspired his character it was a man with both parents who migrated from Croatia, he born in the US, but he lived and loved the Latin culture, so a Latino.
If you only knew spanish and saw it in spanish the whole movie is different. Miklo is a well known and loved by everyone from Mexico to central america

I grew up on this movie. It's one of my top 5 movies of all time. Plus I love how they celebrated Dia De Los Muertos because it's my birthday!
I love watching people's first time reacts to this classic and yours was super authentic and empathetic! I don't know if you've seen "Mi Vida Loca" but i feel you might enjoy that one as well. It's a coming of age story of young latina women experiencing the gang life in California during the 80's. Another great movie to watch if you have the time.

When miklo was breaking that soap in the sink it was a mold of the Black gang leader’s hair pick. That’s how miklo set up his own leader to get killed by the blacks.

At the end with the soap, it showed that Miklo and Magic ordered the hit on Montana. They forged Bonafied's comb which represented the BGA gang. They forged the comb and sent it to the guy who killed Montana. They got him killed because Montana was getting too soft and people began losing respect for Onda, The disrespect is shown in the movie when I think Magic asked one of the BGA members when is he going to pay his tab and he replied "No can do carnal" to mock them.

I could be wrong but I always thought Magic put the hit on Montana without Miklo knowing and that’s why he said he kept it as protection from him and even Miklo looked upset and said I loved him like he had just realized what Magic did…..anyone else see it this way?

This movie was so good and bad at the same time, back in El Salvador many thought that being in a gan was a good thing, many didn’t see the bad side of it tho.

This movie hit different for me being black and Mexican but being raised by my Mexican family never felt accepted growing up but thankfully I didn’t feel the need to prove myself to anyone. love the reaction tho you got yourself a new subscriber
I've said this many times, I wish this movie was longer. The end makes me wish it didn't end.
Great movie, one of my favorites, I saw it in the theater back in 1993, when I lived in Las Vegas.
People who grew up in the 70's and 80's understand this movie. Things were very real in those times.
The culture in the beginning is basically the same thing as native American culture except its more south to Mexico. Aztecs and mayas live there and many other tribes of indians of the land

That is exactly how prison is. In fact at the time I believe it was San Quentin where they shot this or pelican bay and they were alarmed at how real the script was!
