Home prices drop on Whidbey Island

  • The door is opening to more homebuyers in Island County.
    The Northwest Multiple Listing Service states Island and Ferry counties are the only ones in the state to see their home prices drop between July of 2021 and this July.
    One home in Oak Harbor is a prime example. The fully remodeled house with a water view originally listed for $785,000. The sellers dropped the price 20% to $650,000 after an unheard of 80 days on the market.
    "I'm absolutely surprised this one is still on the market," said Realtor Jim Woessner.
    He believes a combination of rising interest rates and a flood of houses on the market are driving the drop.
    He calls it "the shift."

      Fuel Prices. No one wants to live on a remote island with 10 dollar a gallon fuel. {ive seen several stations here in arizona OVER 10 a gallon}

      @@DieselRamcharger Do you even live here? Something tells me you don’t. We aren’t remote by any means and we saw nowhere near $10/gallon!

    I thought about buying a home here, but Everyone on every channel on youtube says the homeless problems are horrible and the noise from the jets is deafening.

      That house in incredibly over-inflated in price. Even with last year’s prices it is.

    I hope it keeps going down. We had to move from Tacoma to Texas due to the fact the cost of living is way too high

    Prices are dropping and a lot more homes for sale (obviously) .
    It’s great! High home prices only hurt the new buyers. I was able to buy a house 40 years ago and I want younger people to have the same opportunity. The Amazon boom is at first seemingly great but it’s actually not. Slow steady growth is the way a community grows best.

      We lived in Oak Harbor and my dad drove down to Seattle every day for a job over 2 years. It’s completely doable.

      You can get to Seattle pretty quick, even without the ferry going around I can do it in a hr and a half even quicker if there’s good traffic or late.

      @@knine8154 😂😂😂 People live AND work on the island. Most are for sale because they are military or trying to just take advantage of the market. A correction was overdue and these higher interest rates are driving prices to go down.
