Florida communities preparing for Hurricane Milton, life-threatening storm surge

- Hurricane Milton, currently a Category 4 storm, is on track for parts of Florida's west coast that are still recovering from Helene. CBS News correspondent Cristian Benavides has more from residents there who rode out Helene but are not taking chances with Milton, CBS News Philadelphia meteorologist Grant Gilmore takes a look at the forecast and CBS News New York reporter Elijah Westbrook reports on how the storm is impacting air travel.

Too many homes are in harm's way in Florida, every year it the same story. Its either zoning laws that lets everyone live in the worst areas. Or flood waters with nowhere to go. Sea levels are rising, warmer sea temps, homes built on lowlands just barely above sea level it just a contestant issue for Florida the hurricane capital of the world.
Like over 70% of US population lives on coastlines whether that’s east or west coast. The remainder lives in the Midwest, and such. It’s just part of human nature. Majority of Floridas population also lives on coastlines. There is numerous building regulations and such. Most homes getting destroyed aren’t built up to code or are too close to the coast and get storm surge. Why are cities and large population centers built right by the coastlines/ water? Think NYC, Miami, SF, etc it’s just how population density came to be and it remains this way bc the infrastructure is there. Most of the center and bottom of Florida is pretty undeveloped. How are people to live in the center of Florida if there’s not enough infrastructure there? I think central Florida and Gainesville, Jacksonville are the only heavily populated areas inland.
I would argue This is a much different story. We’ve never had 10 foot debris piles on every property and then an even bigger storm come in two weeks later Boss.
A storm has never formed this fast either .

If you are expecting damage from Milton, think about Speaker Mike Johnson refusing to call back the House to work on aid for victims of Hurricane Helene to make President Biden look bad. Why would you vote for the party whose presidential candidate said, "I don't care about you. I only want your vote." ?
