Yeah Nicki!!! I love that you are inspired to get back in the studio. Thank you so much for watching and thank you for the kind donation. It will go a long way to helping us afford more supplies for more videos. And keep an eye on the end credits of our future video for a brand new title for you. 🙂
another good video Ann, explaining as you go, makes the technique more user friendly without using big words to confuse anyone and everyone. your 'simple' picture can remain simple or using different tools can expand and encourage self expression, making a possible copied picture your own impression. thankyou x
Oh, great! I've had so much trouble telling my right from my left, and my right from my wrong. Now I have to worry about my positive and negative?😢 Just teasing. But as always, your videos sponsor fresh new horizons in thinking. A natural teacher I'd say!
Thank you very much you are the best. Your videos are very helpful. I just want to make 3 ceramic or porcelain flower buzzes with some traditional drawing and designs under the glaze. Can you make a video about how to make that easily at home?
This video was soooo very helpful!! The way you’re using the stencils is just pure genius!! I just bought a bunch of underglazes so I could do some scrafitto!! You always seem to know what I need!!! I really can’t thank you enough Ann! Honestly the last several videos have been realllly helpful!! Thank you so much. I definitely need to get a few key tools that I’ll use a lot but it’s hard since I don’t know what I’ll like. I wish we could rent a few tools! lol. Thanks again Ann!!!!❤❤❤ And thank you so much for my new team tittle!! Hahaha. Are there maybe 3 of your absolute favorite tools you use the most of maybe you think a beginner would use? ❤
When you carve sgraffito can you reuse the underglaze that you carve off? Have you ever tried? It seems like you could make a new underglaze out of it by adding water to the scraps, keeping each color separate or combining for different colors.
Hi MaryAnn. I wish it worked that way, but the underglaze comes off attached to the clay so there is no way really to separate the two out so you could save the debris. Good thinking though. ...come to think of though.... we did do a video where we layered a piece with a lot of underglaze colors so when we carved the piece, you were left with layers on the piece and these cool kernels of underglaze clay layers. We really liked those kernels of layered colors and saved those and later put together a video where we placed them on a slab and rolled them into the slab for cool designs.
Great sgraffito demo! What type paper did you use for fox template? I like using Tyvek (housewrap) for templates. It's waterproof & reusable! International mailing envelopes are also made from Tyvek.
@heididoudeli8560 Soak Tyvek stencils in water. Wipe off excess water w/damp sponge. Apply stencil to leatherhard clay. Use small red rib to seal stencil to surface. Apply 3 coats undeglaze. Remove stencil.
Hi Cochoa. Nice to meet you. I know other potters who drape plastic over the piece just so it will stay in the leather hard stage until you can get around to carving the surface. that would be the ideal. If your clay get too dry, you can try to rewet it but the clay will still be stiff underneath and can chip. It is better than dry for sure but leather hard is the best. Sorry about that.
Haha, thanks Liz. Actually it just comes with practice. The more you practice, the more muscles your hands will build up to keep your fingers and hands steady, ...that plus I do tricks to keep my hands steady like balancing my pinky on the clay etc. You can do it!! Ann

cool - I'll check that out!
If it's waterproof how does it stick to the plate? Does it suction on the surface? Doesn't it make it more prone to leaks reaching under the edges?
I am only curious not doubting you ofc

What do you think about misting the surface or maybe quickly dipping in water if it gets to dry?
