    Poison Ivy also controls her namesake, and usually her targets are tangled in a myriad of plants, so maybe the kiss is just a distraction for the real threat, poison colonoscopy.

    +Because Science:
    One issue with Poison Ivy secreting a cyanide compound is that cyanide is poisonous to all vertebrates. It bonds with hemoglobin and myoglobin in a way that prevents either of them from being able to transport or uptake oxygen. Her being human(ish), and bleeding red blood (at least from every comic I have been able to find) it would mean that she would be just as susceptible to her toxin as the person she is kissing.
    Instead of Poison Ivy having a single poison, I think it would be more likely to be a cocktail of plant poisons working in concert.
    For instance :
    1) Calcium Oxalate crystals of the leaves of the Dumbcane, would cause abrasions in the mouth and throat during the kiss.
    2) Combined that with the Phorbol of the Manchineel tree, those abrasions would quickly blister, swell and cause bleeding.
    3) Finally Coniine from Hemlock, given access to the blood stream from the action of the first two compounds, it would paralyze the victim's esophagus, mouth, and face.
    The result is the victim would experience an excruciatingly painful death as their throat and esophagus blistered and swelled shut unable to clear itself as they suffocated to death. Not an instant kill, but an attack that would quickly debilitate a victim as they impotently writhed on the ground searching for breath that would not come.

    • @A_Wet_Duck
      @A_Wet_Duck 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Atropine... Is not an antidote to cyanide
      I know this is a year late, but atropine works by activating your sympathetic system. Cyanide stops the electron transport chain. These things are in no way related, and atropine certainly doesn't act as an antidote to cyanide
      It DOES act as an antidote to cholinergic poisons, like nerve agents/organophosphate compounds (Sarin, Tabun, VX, novichok, etc)
      Edit: In addition, it's much more likely that she makes use of tropane alkaloids like atropine itself, hyoscamine, scopolamine, or other cardiotoxic alkaloids like aconitine or veratridine, the latter of which is capable of being absorbed through the skin

  • @Joel-tm7xq
    @Joel-tm7xq 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    In cases where Ivy's poison is a result of a mutation, rubber lips could possibly help if she developed stinging cells on her lips, such as those found in stinging nettles, as the primary means of administering poison. This would also mean that venoms, as well as poisons, would be in her arsenal.

    • @KaosEmperor
      @KaosEmperor 6 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      It depends.
      If Ivy resistance to toxin came is power Rogue would strip her of itand she would die from being drained of her "life force" or by her toxins but if it is the result of a continous exposition to them then Rogue would probably die after having drained Ivy.
      So in the best case we have a single corpse, in the worst two.

    • @Thesaurus_Rex
      @Thesaurus_Rex 6 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      If it was just a quick brush of the lips, Rogue would die because she wouldn't have time to absorb Ivy's life force, and would be killed by the toxin. However, assuming that Ivy's resistance is a "power", in a lengthier session, Ivy's toxin resistance would be transferred to Rogue. The question then would be if Ivy would be killed by Rogue's life force drain or her own toxic lipstick.

    • @Vladimir_Kv
      @Vladimir_Kv 6 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Ivy's resistance is a power, but it's a magical power derived from her connection to The Green (arcane representation of the plant life). Rogue's power, AFAIK, only works on mutant X-genes (so even metahumans wouldn't be universally susceptible).

    Strychnine would also be a promising candidate for her poison. It acts deadly very fast especially through the mucous membranes in doses of 30 mg and more and it comes in a potent poison cocktail with brucine and colubrin in Strychnos nux-vomica. In general, individual poisons are always weaker than a cocktail of many different poisons that potentiate each other. In addition, the antidote physostigmine is also plant-based.

    • @europademon
      @europademon 6 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      The batnips are completely misunderstood. It's all about aerodynamics. Batman and Robin are so incredibly buff that their chest muscles actually catch the wind and hamper their movements. Think of the nips as a nose cone for a rocket ship. Where as Batgirls built in bullet proof bra adds the support needed for optimal movement speed.

    Wouldn't this that after every application she would have to wipe away ( or in the crystal form chisel) the toxins? And on a further note, wouldn't this render her "love slave blow" just as toxic as her kiss? (And on a unrelated but kinda related note, Harley Quinn must be immune to cyanide given how many kisses from Ivy she has taken.)

      Valandar2. Yup, its gota fit the theme. I mean, she could probably get a lot more work done with a few guns or some pipe bombs.... but shes got a theme to work with!

    • @zenhydra
      @zenhydra 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's an organic compound, so it theoretically could be plant derived. It is commonly found in Hg-contaminated bacteria (it's often found in wetlands and oceanic bacterial colonies). Fast acting is a relative term. An adult human subject won't drop dead in a few minutes, but rather famously a academic chemist died from exposure to a tiny amount of dimethylmercury which came in contact with her latex glove clad hands.

      Because atmosperic nitrogen is extremely stable and hard to use in chemical reaction an without some spacial symbiontic bacteria they cannot assimale it moreover they live in place with extremely low assimilable-nitrogen levels so they devoleped special structures to catch and digest insects.
      Some of them even developed special symbiosis with some rodent, the plant secret a sugary fluid that attract the mouse and in return the mouse shit inside the modified leaf.
      And before you ask no, i'm not kidding, that is true.

    • @GeneralKnife

    Also, would River Song have something similar to this in Doctor Who? She did try to kill the doctor once with a Kiss, and more often uses something to just mess with people's minds (with hallucinations) with the a kiss... This is assuming she can render herself immune to the substance as well.
