    Kyle, this is actually in reference to the last live episode. (Cause TH-cam would not load the comments for me)
    In the question about saving your breathe, I am pretty sure they were talking about movie where people are suffocating and they tell them not to talk, because they will run out of air faster.
    To which my two cents would be, "it depends". Speaking and normal respiration should not have different rates of oxygen consumption, at least not a meaningful difference. However, the mental state of the person would. So, if talking helps them not panic and control their breathing, say by counting slowly or singing, then it would help them survive longer than if they sat still and panicked.A really nerdy thing for movies to do instead, would be to suggest that the trapped person take steps to make themselves colder and more wet. These triggers cause the body to reduce oxygen consumption.
    At least, that is my understanding.

    • @jacob6885
      @jacob6885 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh, and when you talked about what you would do with infinite money, I believe the question was actually "What EXPERIMENT would you do, if you had infinite money".
      Depending how you interpret that, I would say an orbital tether would be an interesting experiment. I'm not sure if that it the right name. It's the idea that you could build a space station at the end of a tether in such a way that the centrifugal "force" would make the mass of the station counteract much of the weight of the tether itself. Thus allowing a space elevator where the mechanical stresses are bi-directional and thus easier to engineer than a tower into space whose mass is completely supported by the ground.There are also a number of social experiments involving surveys or responses to stimuli that you could do if you had infinite money to ensure vastly large sample sizes which just aren't possible under normal budget constraints.
      Not to mention all the theoretical applications for nanotubes or anti-matter. Experiments with both materials, due to cost and rarity, are few and far between but there are many theoretical applications that could be tested if money were not an obstacle. Nano-Batteries, anti-matter reactors, thrusters, and theoretical super materials are just a few experiments that could be done.
      Infinite money would also be useful to back software experiments. AI research is limited in budgets because the developers have to be paid in the private sector. Which lead to a lot of advancement coming from college students doing projects or some small groups working on grants. Yes, Google, IBM, Amazon, Sun, and Microsoft (just to name a few biggies) are also putting money into it, but even that is driven by the bottom line. With infinite money, we could gather experienced people in multiple disciplines to answer the question, "Is it possible to make a true artificial intelligence"

    Hi, I've been watching for a long time and I have a random question that I wonder if you could answer.
    Here on Earth as far as I know the moon plays a big role in the way the oceans move, I was wondering, if there was a completely Earth-like planet that had two moons, how would that affect its ecosystem? Could life still develop? Would humans be able to survive on it?

    • @mattduncil
      @mattduncil 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Branching off this, what would an earth like planet look like if its orbit around the sun and spin of the planet where the same. Meaning there was the same part of the planet always facing the sun, and the other half was in constant darkness. And the moon traveled the same as usual. How would that effect weather? Would there continually be a storm front around the circumference of the planet, dividing the desert side and the arctic side. And how would the moons tidal forces effect the weather. Also how fare away would the planet need to be from the sun to make it habitable and not unbelievably hot on the sun facing side, and inversely how close would it need to be to make the dark side warm enough for comfort.

      @@mattduncil if one side is always facing the sun and the other never faces it then the sun side would burn to a crisp while the other side would freeze.

  • @LaserHuset
    @LaserHuset 5 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Just saying, you never showed or explained what it would take to shatter a frozen head, you talk briefly about the different effects and reactions of the process and then have a "strong man" punch a frozen head, providing evidence that it is possible, but instead of going deeper into your discovery you jump straight to jokes about how you guys are the brains and he does the killing?
    That doesn't show the power needed, where are the measurements? And what is the baseline for breaking a head in this way so we can determine if he barely broke the head or if he was well above the required power, with no baseline you may be able to do it just as easily as the guy you hired to be stronger than you
    Great video as always, love the show

  • @roy4173
    @roy4173 5 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Are we factoring magical items to the equation? Because Link normally isn't able to lift very heavy objects unless he has one of those gauntlets. The master sword is not notably larger than a typical sword. And anything else he carries doesn't seem to be much notably larger or heavier than your average everyday item. Sure, he's more fit and athletic than your typical couch potato, but barring any assistance from magical items, I don't remember Link doing anything superhuman. Of course, with the assistance of those items, he can do some incredible things, but it's arguable whether we can attribute the strength to Link or those items at that point.

    • @ToabyToastbrot
      @ToabyToastbrot 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well if we factor in games like Super Smash Bros , Link can at least make Bowser , who I'd classify as a pretty heavy object, fly?

    • @roy4173
      @roy4173 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ToabyToastbrot it's a really good point there. I think Link obeys the laws of the game here which still makes him not particularly outstanding from his smash brethren.
      Link can only make the likes of Bowser fly if he first satisfies the condition of doing enough damage to him first. Once that condition is satisfied, or he connects a charged hit (both which are universal laws in the game that applies to everyone), then he can make said target fly. But this makes everyone in the game super human, including princess peach, which breaks the lore of her universe as well since she could arguably handle not only browser, but 3 other superhuman opponents simultaneously, thus making her capture in all the Mario games unlikely.
      For the sake of simplicity, I think it's best to stay within the main universe of the game as it complicates the question significantly.

    • @sixolddereks
      @sixolddereks 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That grappling hook alone has been clocked at ridiculous amounts of force due to it's relative size compared to him and the distance and speed it travels. That hook is probably the most notable of all the regular items he uses because of that.

    • @roy4173
      @roy4173 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sixolddereks I wonder if the question here isn't a measure of his strength specifically but an examination of the limitations set by the laws of physics. There is an absolute limit to a person's strength given how much mass they have and the length of their appendages.
      So if the grappling hook went fast enough, it would physically be impossible to hold onto it without severing your arm from the rest of your body, even if you had access to limitless strength.
      It's a similar concept to resisting the push of something significantly more massive than you. All the strength in the world couldn't prevent the object from moving you. You would need something more massive than the object to support your own mass before you can stop it.

    Here's one for you... In the Avengers Endgame trailer Tony mentions that "food and water ran out four days ago". I thought you would only last three days without water. He seems in pretty good shape and lucid for someone who has gone without food and water for that length of time. Of course he says he ran out of water.... He could still have a few litres of his favourite fizzy beverage left (Irn Bru perhaps? Google it) Or perhaps he's just moved onto drinking his own pee. If he has, how long can you last on this? I'm not sure the phytoplankton idea would work because they're not plants. They are part of Kingdom Protista.

      Come on australia is a nice place for sure. You just wanna make sure not to interact with the flora and fauna at all. And keep it from interacting with you. So yeah, might be safer to not go there in the first place.

    lets not forget or ignore the possibility of Poison Ivy gene splicing the more horrific and nasty abilities into a single fast moving simi- sentience plant...or that of plot convenience and those that are beyond the realms of possibility but are accepted none the less to avoid pointless arguments with other nerds

    Pitcher plants... the Sarlacc of the botanical world?
    Or is the Sarlacc the pitcher plant of the SW bestiary?

    So if this bloodroot kills the skin, and you have skin cancer, applying it to the specific area of the skin where the cancer is located wouldn't fix the problem by simply removing the skin?
    I can understand why people would think that's what would happen. I see the logic in it.
    Of course, if I had cancer and I heard about this "bloodroot" thing that might fix it, I wouldn't just jump right in and do it. I'd look more thoroughly into it and consult doctors to make sure my decision is properly informed, rather than just going off of the assumption that it sounds somewhat logical.
    Critical thinking. Seems to be quite rare. I'm glad we have people like Kyle to promote it.

    If the pitcher plant "ate" Batman.... Could not Batman just cut himself free?
