My favorite part of the takedown is that, the intire time you really feel like maliwan I trying everything they can to stop you. One part sticks out to me is when after you Valkyires when your going down the ramp you thinking huh a straight shot to wotan, and only seconds later to notice that they are pulling that bridge backwards to stop you from getting across it.
I have run Maliwan Takedown easily 100s of times, and I STILL love running it EVERY time. I think its the best piece of endgame content in any Borderlands game. This is a GREAT video dude, why dont you do more stuff like this???
If I had to guess, he doesn't produce more content like this because it's high effort and time consuming, neither of which are typically rewarded by the TH-cam algorithm.
One thing I'd add to this is how amazing the music is in this takedown. While I'm also just a sucker for high energy techno, hotline miami style, the music otherwise fits the theme and the feeling of the takedown perfectly, as well as the tracks evolving as the player progresses over time. The music of Borderlands never really stuck out to me that much as important, but muting the Maliwan Takedown's music to listen to something else while completing it is a crying shame.
Man borderlands as a series is an amazing franchise. Gotta say 1 is probably my favorite. Love them all tho. Gearbox hit the nail on the head with the humor and frantic shootumup and lootumdown!
@@Lombrar 2 is actually the one I've played the least. Still played at least 80 or 90 hours. 1 was just amazing. It set the bar for all future looters. Even pre sequel was fun. I like them all!
One time when I was a kid I went to buy borderlands 2 and was so excited then some dip shit loser told me that I sucks and that 2 is so much better. I was like 8 wtf do I say, I didn't stand up for myself but his coworker did and said one day ur gonna do that shit to the wrong person and get beat up. it made me realize that he was wrong for doing that and I really appreciate him
@@Lombrar I agree that 3 is the master piece but 1 is the old original that sequels try to replicate but fail cuz the original wasn't perfect. The new games are so polished and story drivin where the first only had stories to motivate you to explore and play the game. I'm not saying the new games are a worse borderlands just that it's not the same exact game. anyone who enjoys borderlands 1 will be able to enjoy the later games but if u started on 2 it would be harder cuz borderlands 2 has more added to it.

The thing thats wrong with the eridian takedown is the massive amount of invincibility phases i mean the first boss has like 12 that 100% take at least 30 seconds each time to deal damage again last time i got my combo setup i fought him for 5 mins and it was basically only running and jumping on the pads then 1 tapping his next tiny hp bar. And too many unnecessary mechanicsi mean theres what 5 jumping puzzles that can instantly end your run? Maybe 1 or 2 but 5-6 is just totally overboard. Minimal skill is required to do them after some practice so its just not rewarding in any way and after doing it successfully 15 times in a row to die on the puzzle is just massively frustrating
too many cliffs for one thing. nobody wants to spend all that time grinding through the tanky enemies only to die because a launcher shot them too hard and they missed a platform and died, having to start all over.
The music deserves a mention it is great all the way through but the Valkrie Squad music is an absolute banger of a track,Another reason i like it is that i got to do another mission for Lorelei i like her a lot she is one of my favorite characters.
Couldn't agree more, i aways sensed that the maliwan takedown was the best content, the music was spot on, and with wotan it progressed along his phases too. In the beginning it was really really hard for me to beat it, and i was thrilled when i managed to get through the entire takedown, and even now that is a walk in the park with the right gear and build, it still have all the elements to get me envolved, man the bridge is so fun, so much enemies, almost like a war you're facing by yourself, so much to talk about! I mean. An in depth rememberance of each vault hunter would be cool. In terms of their depth as people, game impact, and how they shaped vault hunters that came after them. Love these vids btw. Also trickshot op cant change my mind
I’m late to the party here, but there is one minor gripe that I have with this takedown: I really wish the Thor mech was given the same fanfare as the Kraken. The Kraken makes a grand entrance early in the run, and it even subtly prepares you for Wotan itself since the two share some similarities. Thor, on the other hand, just shows up unceremoniously at the very end, when you’re already fighting Wotan. They should’ve made it the last enemy before the Wotan fight instead of those 2 badass heavies.
Even the choice on the types of enemies are good. Since many are pretty much specops and they would be sent to high profile targets. Like Necrodefeyo. Makes you feel like they sent the best of the best to this facility. And the design of the facility itself is great. I still remember my first time playing though this. Took many tries but it was great 😁👍
With the meta anoints nerf, vanilla maliwan takedown feels like it was before mayhem 2.0 Not too overpowered, nor too weak, just great. What will be better is if I played it in redux, soon
The first time I attempted the take down, I got killed right after the turret section. But after getting better gear and a better skill set and numerous tries, I was finally able to beat Wotan several times. And what a feeling it was.
Maliwan takedown is the best in my opinion. It really is exciting the first time you get there. You dont just get one boss, You get a whole map to take down and its way easier to navigate trough than Gurdian Takedown.
It also helps that fighting bandits was like voluntarily getting cancer. God I hate the anointed enemies. Of all enemy factions Maliwan is probably the most balanced and fun to fight
I believe the 2 year anniversary of BL3 in September will be a BIG FINALE for content drop. Perhaps another Takedown. Pearls. Who knows! Here’s hoping….
Last time I played this was DLC4 drop I think, I had an amara running at god speed which was super fun and then I had a beastly moze. I want to get into it again now that I’m rocking the ps5 and I’ve missed out on 2 massive updates I believe.
the immunity phases for wotan are great because they are short and as you said they allow for some increase in challenge from wotan. its not like the guardian takedown where the immunity phases are 5 years worth of length for you to jump around or even the average boss in the general story that just makes you sit there watching a cutscene for the next 5 minutes while you wait to kill them, evil lilith.

I haven’t really bothered with the guardian takedown but I really enjoyed the maliwan takedown. Though the last time I played it, amara’s fakegrasp hadn’t been nerfed yet so it’s been a while. I wonder if they made any changes since I last played. I thought I heard they buffed wotan’s health
Not sure if I have ever agreed with anything more in my life. I love the MTD. Probably my most fav thing in all of the borderlands installments....and it was free!!!!
ok i can't be the only person but i can play the MTD anytime and have fun with it and with the amount of time i have on bl3 its kinda surprising that somthing that i have ran probably hundreds of times now can still be fun unlike a peice of content i dred playing (Guardian Take Down)
Wotan's immunity stages are not fun, they are just (thankfully) very brief, sometimes even hard to notice. Its still the best boss fight design in the entire series followed probably by EOS/Eclipse. Despite having so many stages, the transition between them is so fluid that the whole fight is very engaging and player is never left sitting alone on the arena (Tyrene fight sucks balls). Shame though that this supposedly invinceble boss didnt get proper scaling to the endgame builds and loadouts as some of them can just onetap him... And then you have Guardian Takedown... seems like completely different set of people worked on that one.

Guardian takedown for me was always too tedious and buggy. Multiple times the scourge boss would spam teleport me over and over and there was nothing I could do, until I decided to jump off the map so I could try again.... But then I got stuck when I respawned and couldn't move so had to reset the WHOLE thing. Luckily I got both the smog and the globetrotter in those two attempts so I never have to do it again.
It is definetly the best endgame content in BL3 so far. I mean, the first boss of the guardian takedown is really cool and.. that's it. In Maliwan takedown; i simply enjoy every segment there is and it is actually rewarding. I really hope we will see more content like this and if yes, it will hopefully be a real challenge. That's literally the only problem i have with bl3. Even on true takedown mode it feels like i'm just rushing to the end of it, maybe a few FFYL here and there, but i never really get the feeling of losing control.
I love the takedown, but nearly every artistic reason you listed isn't the reason most people enjoyed it. It's just fun, but never do people think "okay I can go back up this slope" at the beginning.

The kyb’s worth was my favorite smg until the flipper. I don’t have season pass 2 so I’ve never used the plasma coil. I wonder how the kyb’s worth holds up now

technically it is, just that you have a gun that shoots lasers that explode that chain onto enemies, so like enemies are going to die before they get to try and kill you lol
Guardian takedown is garbage. Takes too long and no reward/drop is worth the time. Maliway takedown is alright Bc you can get through it somewhat quickly. We need another takedown that is difficult but also as short as maliwan
Bro I really like the content and have enjoyed every single vid but I have to say this one is just hilariously wrong. Both the takedowns are just glorified and extremely tedious mobbing missions. The only reason to run this thing is to check if a build works well or not. Up until the end of the bridge then I save quit cause that boss fight is stupidly boring and easy and the loot sucks donkey balls.
I honestly didn't like maliwan takedown or Any of takedowns just didn't feel worth the effort not really any good drops don't get me wrong there are decent drops but none that feel good enough for endgame and it takes forever to run solo And not really much story to them idk felt better as mid game content like after you completely game but still not Max level

I love this franchise too. But the best Borderlands would be 2 for me. Although, i think the gun gameplay is at its best in BL3!

That one is way too hard. It took me 4 tries against the boss and I had Mayhem level 10 weapons.
The alien takedown is just way to long and tedious
The bosses take aaaaaages and the 'normal' enemies are just bullet sponges

I liked the concept on paper but I kinda hated it. It felt ultra catered towards multiplayer at release and it was frustrating to play.

To me I love the takedown my only gripe is the Loot is kinda underwhelming. That’s just my opinion though.
As a Zane Main the loot, in particular the Redistributor has been integral to my builds since it came out.
