Pff... Lol. No Kelly is NOT the goat of surfing, hes renowned competitive surfer, theres a HUGE difference. Gotta make sure you specify that denominator..
His impact and performance spans generations, free surfing, videos and yes, competition. Then the longevity...still ripping beyond belief and he has not stopped improving. Cannot think of anyone even close.
@RealSurfStories exactly can't believe some people even question this. To question if Kelly is the best surfer of all time still and then question a legend like tr claim of that shows not only how much some people don't know about surfing but also their level of surfing all thru there keyboards 😅😅hahaha . Kelly and TR both legends in my opinion.
I think john john has better turns, and toledo has better airs, but in big pipeline, teahupoo, and cloudbreak barrels i think kelly is the best. andy and john john are good too though.

This shouldn't even be argued. Sure everyone has their own surfer that they think is the greatest because that surfer has been the guy or gal that has influenced them personally. Someone could say that Skip Frye is the greatest surfer because of his simplistic style.He is still surfing, skating, and shaping some of the most sought after boards. Slater has made the greatest universal impact in surfing ever. His accomplishments will never be touched. We have never seen longevity in competition no matter the sport. Slater is simply " the greatest of all time". Everyone can have their favorite but that doesn't mean they are the best.
Overrated lol every beach on earth has surfers that never got the brakes like slater etc etc so I'm sure there tons out there better then slater is
He earned every break he ever got, do you know the guy's story? If there was anyone even close to his overall ability (freesurf/competition/innovation/carves/barrels/etc) over the last thirty years the surfing world would know all about them. No one is even close.
