First band to fully blur the threshold between hardcore and metal. Skinheads, punks, skateboarders, and metal heads all “crossing over” for nights of legendary violence and chaos in clubs and scenes now long gone. 💯 🔥
@@nugsovile4333 Well, I am sure you have a scene but my point about crossover was that it was crossing over, and that was brand new. Almost 40 years later I am sure bands are playing all sorts of hybrid music, but when DRI came in the scene the “crossover” was brand new.
I was a wee baby in '87 but I saw them on their 40yr anniversary tour and holy shit.... Why haven't I listened to them this whole time? I'll be a fan for the rest of my life at least :p Badass motherfuckers....
Crazy how D.R.I was labeled as metalcore back then! Much has changed I think. Metalcore has evolved to sound much differently nowadays in my opinion. My dad grew up during this era and he said there was NOTHING like D.R.I or Suicidal Tendencies for that matter. Went from favoring classic heavy metal bands like Judas Priest to crossover overnight (though he still holds much respect for the pre-crossover metal bands!)
I already was aware of DRI and had both the dirty rotten album and dealing with it. I bought a compilation album called Death, it was put out by metal blade records. Anyway it had DRI, COC, THE MENTORS, BEYOND POSSESSION, plus other bands. Anyway the DRI song was a new song that was going to be on their new album later that year and yes that song was Five year plan. I saw the Crossover over tour and I remember the place going mental as soon as that riff came in.

@@lorddrac_dontaskmetodance I was a few years younger. So I did not attend garage gigs at the time. However they played gigs at a club called The Island. I do recall Slayer opening for DRI. The show was $5 bucks. Imagine that? 2 Good things to come out of Houston...Bill Hicks and DRI.

I know they aren't using their original bass unless he jus got all cracked out and lost his hair. :\ and a new guitar player, younger dude. They still sound the same lol theyre fucking bad the fuck ass I see them ever chance I get thank god I live I Houston
Current bass player is harrold o. Fun dude! Tons of stories. Book just released with tons of his pics from the ol' CA days; "Murder in the front row." Guitar player is still Spike. Just has short hair. They always keep going through drummers. And Kurt is still at the front. But I agree, still super fun!!!
*Josh Pepe, bass player from this line-up is doing Gang Green, still, I think. Felix, the drummer from this video is doing BAT with guitarist from M. Waste. This line-up did a few reunion shows in the TX area. You probably saw this line-up and didn't know cause everyone minus Kurt has short hair. Lol

“crossing over” is reference to the album, “Crossover”
@@user-user-user-user. I am not stupid

D.R.I. 5 year plan great jam classic metal.
Eh, it's not classic metal ... it's a crossover from hardcore to metal. The song is a classic now, of course.

DxRxIx one of the best live bands ever!! Loved seeing them back in the early LA thrash days!!
Early DRI live belongs stlll to the best concerts i have seen and i have seen a lot Metal and HC bands,at least in the 80's and 90's.
This version of D.R.I is my favorite, Felix Griffin was the backbone of the group if you ask me.
In the 80s, metalcore meant crossover. It only recently that shit bands took the genre name.
Metal changes, music changes, and they didn't take the name. The labels gave them the name and the fans choose rather that the genre fits the band.
@@nugsovile4333 I think thrashcore/crossover thrash fits better now then metalcore do to what most people think of when metalcore is said
