I love your finish! That is how I make my bows too but I never thought about using the button with the backing so I could sew on the bow - thanks for the idea. It is always great to pick up some different techniques for finishing! LOVE IT! I need to finish stitiching mine.
This is so beautiful. Maybe instead of all the knots, use a button with a couple knots on the back to secure the twine to the sled.

Would stain work on that part?
yes!
I used distress spray stain on a small wood piece. I tried distress micro glaze to seal it but that didn’t work. Does anyone have any sealing ideas for those apartment dwellers with no outdoor space or windows that open?
I asked around and was told that if you let it sit dry it will take awhile but eventually it will cure or brush on a water based polycrylic. I do not have first hand experience with this so I can't speak to how it works.
