Yay, with your spot on tutorial, I reassembled the tension discs!! Hopefully I won't get too cocky - tomorrow is the bobbin assembly. A small blessing is that I can wind the bobbins on my other (modern) machine, so I can start sewing on my "Is-sew-bella" very soon! Thanks for the videos!

For any people with a stuck thread tensioner barrel, using penetrant spray on both sides, then wiggling it loose with pliers worked for me. Was caked in grime!

@@BobFowlerWorkshop yeah, strangely there doesn't appear to be a single video about a stuck tension unit barrel removal on TH-cam?

Thank you for this video, very clear and uncomplicated.....I'm storing all these videos until I have the time to attempt to do a full clean. You have helped me so much already with the rusty old 66K I bought here in Australia 3 weeks ago. I now have it sewing beautifully with your helping Videos, when I took out the bobbin assembly I messed up the tension .... but with your easy to follow instructions I fixed it. Can't thank you enough, I watch all your vids even if they are for a different machine you never know when the information will come in handy.

Bob: ...and once you loosen the set screw you can just poke the barrel from the inside and it'll pop out
My 1927 66k bought on Marketplace: "No."
😂 Ended up needing to get a bunch of oil in there, give it a gentle tap with a hammer to unstick it, then lever a screwdriver to the backside to get it to budge - and it's almost entirely black/brown!!!🙃

Where did you put the oil? On the backside and frontside?

This really helped me with my royal machines tensioner. Helped me get it assembled and adjusted correctly.

ok on my 127 I need to unscrew that main piece. I tried, couldn't budge it so I took what I could out, cleaned, reassembled. Works nicely, may not bother with it. 🤔

My barrel is totally stuck in there and I am not sure how to loosen it. I used a screw driver and tapped, but it’s not budging. What do I do?

Is it possible for me to change the unnumbered tension regulator from my Singer 66 to a numbered one? It's so hard for me to reset the tension without numbers after I change tension for different fabrics. Thank you so much for your videos, you've helped me get a 201-2, 128, 99 & now this 66 running again & the 66 was nasty & totally locked up when I got it.

Yes, there were variations of the 66 that had numbered dials. The parts are available.

What the best way to remove a stuck thread tensioner barrel from a 66 Singer sewing machine?

I use a generous amount of Kroil to cut through the schmoo and crud...

Thank you for all your great videos on restoring a singer 66. I am working on my inherited machine and they have been my go to for all instruction. I am wondering if I am missing the screw for the bobbin tension shank...will that be the cause of not having any loosening/play when the presser foot bar is lifted? The set screw in the body of the machine is too tight for me to get out also, maybe that is the cause of the entire stem being stuck/fixed in place also. Any suggestions?
