  • Do you think that staying at Airbnbs in Japan is a good idea or should you stay in hotels instead?
Choosing between staying at an Airbnb vs a hotel isn't as easy as you might think, especially if you want to get the best value out of your stays. While both options have their own pros and cons, it really depends on how you plan your trip before we can see whether the Airbnb or hotel would benefit you more. Hopefully, this video will help you make the right decision in your next trip to Japan

Which do you prefer, hotels or airbnbs?

I stayed at both on my last visit. Airbnb was actually more convenient with a chance to know the locals as the owners are usually happy to help you get to know the area.

Yeah! Meeting the local hosts is always one of the things I look forward to when staying at an Airbnb. Have met some really friendly people this way.

In Japan, I rather rent at the Airbnb, so that I may have more privace. Hotels has many people.

Yup, same here. You get a bigger room/house than a standard hotel too.

Is AirBNB legal in Japan? I cannot figure out if it's still an option under the current laws.

Thanks for the question, I did some research and here's what I could find.
      1. Airbnb is legal in Japan
      2. Hosts are required to register their properties with the government and display their license outside the property
      3. When Airbnb started blowing up around 2018, the Japanese gov found plenty of buildings that actually didn't pass safety and fire regulations, hence they changed the rules and required hosts to register themselves and their properties.
      Hope this clears it up!

Hi David, I normally pick any Airbnb that's located near a train station. You should be fine as long as you check the airbnb's reviews and pictures as well.

I totally agree with your comment! I've met some very friendly local hosts when staying at different airbnbs in different countries.
